Even better than that. There are around 900 to 1000 pitchers used a season. Last year there were 98 goalies used in the NHL. Ohtani is ranked 43rd in pitching fWAR. You divide that by 10 to match the number of NHL goalies used, that’s the equivalent of the 4th or 5th best goalie in the league.

So that’s like Matthews finishing 2nd in the scoring race and then doing what Marc Andre Fleury did last year. It’s nuts.

well put. In all my decades of watching professional sports, I have never witnessed anything like this, the closest would be Bo Jackson excelling in the NFL and MLB at the same time.

Didn't realize how soft the Red Sox schedule is the rest of the way

After Wednesday they have 9/14 left against last place teams and then home series against NYM/NYY.

Think Mariners sweep is the optimal outcome.

Very true and a good point with Bo.

It sucks Ohtani plays for the Angels, LA is a big city but he would get more fanfare if he were playing in New York, Boston or even the Dodgers. If not a big market, at least a market that gets into the playoffs. Ohtani would in the playoffs would be insane.

japanese here in peace.
we are very very proud of him.
ganbare ohtani−san !!

ryushku onegai ishi mas!

That’s what really sucks about the al east. It’s been this way forever. I feel like the yanks and sox should be in different divisions but I know that would never happen. There’s no balance

i have a better solution: open up the post season to the top 8 teams in each league. Like the NBA and NHL do. MLB is so behind other leagues. Even tennis uses the hawkeye tech to determine if a ball is IN or OUT. NHL uses advanced instant replay from multiple angles. Yet MLB still relies on umpires and rarely use instant video replay to review plays - the umpires make many missed calls practically every game.

we need to go 11-8 in order to make the playoffs.

Schedule:

BAL x 3
TB x 6
MIN x 7
NYY x 3

I predict we will go 11-8 in our last 19 and finish with a record of 91-72 and just might squeak into that last WC spot

2-1 vs BAL
2-4 vs TB
5-2 vs MIN
2-1 vs NYY

lol.

Riley Adams hitting well in 26 games and 61abs = a small sample + babip luck.

Jansen hitting well in 5 games and 18 abs with a .364babip in September = a good hitter.

I'm not saying Adams is a good hitter, but that my friends is what scientists refer to as motivated reasoning.

What YOU said he said (which he didn't say) would have been motivated reasoning. What he ACTUALLY said was that .297 is normal (it is), .063 is unsustainably low (it is), and .467 is unsustainable high (it is).

How did you get that out of what he said?

Good news is the Yanks pen should be depleted for their afternoon game tomorrow against the Orioles, who should hopefully still be hot offensively from their series with us.
