Pearson credits Romano for his success in the Blue Jays bullpen - Sportsnet.ca

3:09 | September 12, 2021

Blue Jays’ Nate Pearson joined Hazel Mae to talk about his appearance out of the bullpen against the Orioles, and why he credits Jordan Romano for his success so far this season.

149 wRC+ since May 1st (114 PA) before today. Crazy that when the BABIP normalized (.297) he became a good hitter.

Weird because I was thought those 49 PA I April with a .063 BABIP was his real talent.

You are double-crediting Ohtani for his hitting (once deservedly for a good year and once for being a good hitter in general). The other two are more impressive because they were out of character.

This makes no sense.

I’m crediting Ohtani because he is first in WAR in the entire league. Because he is a team’s best hitter and best pitcher. Because he pitching like an ace on the Angels and at worst a #2 on most teams and a #3 on some.

Then there is his hitting.

Ohtani has the leagues best in;
HRs
ISO
Barrels
Barrel%

And is top 10 in;
fWAR
Runs
RBIs
BB
SBs
BB%
SLG
wRC+
wOBA
Hard%
WPA
EV
maxEV
HardHit%

Oh and he has 30+ less PAs than everyone in those categories and 60+ less PAs than Vlad.

So if you want to compare bats of Hampton’s 99 season and MadBum’s 2014 to Ohtani’s 2021, be my guest but I can guarantee they weren’t first or even top 10 in anything.

Yanks are going with Clarke Schmidt who hasn't pitched much at all this year and likely is on a pitch count. Mets are going with Carrasco who has pitched better than his ERA indicates.

Oakland and Seattle lost.

Jays win.

Tampa loses
Boston loses
Seattle loses
Oakland loses

Just need the Yankees to lose and it’s a perfect night.

Also Tampa put their best pitcher and hitter in McClanahan and Wander on the IL this weekend. Could be a big series.

I am hoping the Jays win the series and I think there is a good chance they do.

Who starts for the Rays in the first game?

lol.
31% K% and a .472 BABIP. Not worried.
Riley Adams hitting well in 26 games and 61abs = a small sample + babip luck.

Jansen hitting well in 5 games and 18 abs with a .364babip in September = a good hitter.

I'm not saying Adams is a good hitter, but that my friends is what scientists refer to as motivated reasoning.

May I ask why you quoted his statement of a .297 BABIP and made the sample 7 times smaller to generate a bigger BABIP that's still over .100 points less than Riley Adams BABIP that he mentioned?

A .297 BABIP is completely reasonable. A .472 BABIP is not. A .063 BABIP is not.

I mean...going out on a limb here. The sample size for Jansen is a little bit bigger then the last 5 games. There is a slight bit of irony in you calling out motivated reasoning with that in mind.

Who starts for the Rays in the first game?

McHugh vs Manoah.
Rasmussen vs Berrios
Wacha vs Ray

No Yarborough. I like our chances to be competitive in 2 of those games.

Lindor with a 3 run bomb.

Inning would have been over if it weren’t for a Torres error.

4-2 Mets
