Kirk is such a ridiculous talent. Most guys who avoid strikeouts like he does are slap hitters just trying to put the ball in play. But he's got some serious power, too.
Sure it's a shorter sample size but he actually has a better OPS then Nelson Cruz and J.D Martinez. That's a good quality DH right there

fWAR:
Semien:
6.1
Guerrero Jr.: 5.9

bWAR:
Semien:
6.1
Guerrero Jr.: 5.7

Semien and Guerrero and 1-2 in fWAR in the league. Semien is 1 and Guerrero is 3rd in bWAR.

Ray is 9th in fWAR in the league and 3rd in AL fWAR. Ray is 1st in bWAR among pitchers in the league.

With Cole's potential injury and start tonight, Ray might be the favorite.

Honestly, @zeke has been pumping his tires for a while now and I thought he was overhyping him but Kirk is awesome. His defense has been much improved, arm strength is still a bit of an issue but he can flat-out hit. How many players can take a Cole fastball high in the zone and go the other way with it for a homer. He can hit all kinds of pitches.

Remember when there was so many questions about the rotation? Man Shapkins has done a good job with assembling a rotation. There was no need for spending money on Paxton after all.

They look like geniuses.

1. Ray - 2.60 era - Cy young front runner.
2. Ryu - 3.77 era
3. Berrios - 3.55 (3.79 with t.o)
4. Manoah - 3.63 era
5. Matz - 3.70 era.

Too bad the Mariners are winning and look like they probably will. They are my second fave team to make the playoffs after the Jays.

Not to mention you didnt give up much for those guys the with the exception of Berrios.

Ray: Cost you Bergen who you got back
Ryu: Just money
Berrios: Cost a lot; Martin is ok but SWR seems to be heading in the wrong direction
Manoah: Draft pick
Matz: 2 pitchers you didnt want in SRF and Diaz and Winckowski who was traded 2 more times

I didnt like our pitching moves in the off-season and they worked out brilliantly.

I got to eat crow on Matz. Hated the trade because i didnt want him but as always, Walker fixed him.

Matz is third on the Jays in starting fWAR right behind Ryu;

Ray: 3.7 fWAR
Ryu: 2.5 fWAR
Matz 2.3 fWAR

For a guy you got for practically nothing, you got to be happy. Also consider Ryu cost you $80M, for Matz to be neck and neck with Ryu and only missed starts due to covid, you cant ask for much more.

I think Houston comes back. 1 run lead, they are getting hits but not knocking them in. It will catch up to them.

*pinch bunt lmao
Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but I hope sac bunts die off soon. You're giving away an out, it kills momentum, and statistically a runner at second with one out is just as likely if not less likely to score than a runner at first and no one out. Also, no one even practices anymore so whoever gets tasked to bunt is going to screw up more often than not (look at Vasquez at the BoSox game in the 9th yesterday).

The only type I bunting I don't mind is when lefty hitters try bunting over to the left side when the defense is playing them with a dramatic shift

Starting pitching was the huge question mark earlier this year, which now seems like a lifetime ago. Remember when they were starting Trent Thornton, Travis Bergen, Anthony Kay and TJ Zeuch :ha:

It's pretty insane that they now have one of the best rotations with all 5 starters having an ERA below 3.80. Even crazier is that the pitcher with the highest era is Ryu who many thought was the only elite pitcher on this staff back in April lol

I wonder how much input Walker has on pitcher acquisitions. Like if they talk to him about they can get this or guy or that guy and he says I can see something I can fix with him and they go that way.

And after a rocky start Stripling has been good over the past several months outside 3 starts until his injury

I would hope they do because he knows what he is doing.
