I wonder which of the Big 4 might have earned Dubas’ wrath. I can sympathize with him feeling let down by that group after all the hype up and votes of confidence over the years despite repeat face plants.

I don’t really agree with him though if he doesn’t think Keefe is also a non solution.
Exactly why a Gm needs to be objective and not become emotionally attached to the players…….

And they've been given everything they wanted, including money and Dubas's undying loyalty and belief in them. You'd think they'd want to go through a wall for him. Not in their DNA I guess
Anyone who hasn’t figured out that these players are loyal only to themselves needs to take a break………

And I'd also point to Carolina as an example of how you can have a ton of success without trading for rentals. Also, they only have one player making more than 6 million, and he makes less than 9. Something to ponder for those who say "you just don't trade talent like (insert whoever here)".

I said it a while back, I could make a good case for a policy that involves almost never trading picks. Of course I got yelled at - gotta give your team a chance to win, what kind of message does it send when you don't improve your team at the deadline blah blah blah.

Now that all the Canadian teams are out, I'm rooting for Carolina, just because they do things the way I think they should be done. Go Canes!

They also work their balls off.

They're not big or mean but they're absolute animals on the forecheck and play a weird system on D. They've been the number one dump in and puck retrieval team for a while.

Also their D is what we should have been aspiring to be for a while. Not exactly mean but still big enough while being mobile and able to move the puck. They also don't dick around and get it out of zones. You don't have to be small to be skilled on D and you can be responsible while also being able to move the puck.

Lily was the most similar to that until we mind f***ed him

I think Tavares. Rock and a hard place now. Perhaps Marner.

I love Mike Futa’s recent suggestion of swapping Doughty’s contract with Tavares’.

I liked the Doughty hot take too. He plays with the championship swagger from real career accomplishments. Tavares is so ugh.

We started down this bad road of dealing 2nd round picks like candy as early as Brian Boyle and Tomas Plekanec. Completely premature then. And now our best prospect is a second rounder in Knies.

Who we almost traded plus picks for the flower and hagel. which for some reason is a complaint by some of the dubas lovers in the media because that was apparently the trade that shanny blocked

So is shanny hiding cuz everyone is waiting on what dubas does with his alleged contract extension, or hiding cuz he doesn't know what to say... Maybe something tomorrow, but feels like it'll get dragged out to Friday maybe with the silence

Kyle mentioning family concerns is legit, as it would be for anybody in a high profile public eye, so he's not lying. However, it's not the reason, it's smoke. The real reason is the tug-of-war over whether Keefe gets fired or not. Kyle wants him to stay, MLSE says out. This is what the balking by both sides is about.

Just my take. Makes the most sense.

IMO if this is the case the problem is far deeper then Dubas. It’s not ownerships job to select or mandate what happens with the coach, that’s the GM’s job it’s ownerships job to determine if the results on the ice justify keeping Dubas or not and if it was good enough to keep his job then let him do his job. If ownership is saying you can stay but you gotta fire the coach then why don’t they just become the GM.

Ownership getting involved in hockey decisions is a horrible thing imo, and not at all what should happen.

You're correct, and considering how much of a disaster Keefe has been, if Dubas doesn't plan on firing him then Ownership should have cut Dubas loose yesterday.

I’d be surprised if that were the case.

sounds like us. Basically still talking about learning how to win. Would be ripped apart here.

Diff is that they actually advanced past the first round a few times and got to the Conf Finals. Which means they actually won a few elimination games. If we switch McD and Drai to AM and MM, the two best players on both teams. There is a good chance the Leafs will be in the ECF.

I think it is fair for ownership to ask Dubas how to improve the team and move forward.
If Dubas plan is move a core piece or two and bring in core pieces back but run with the same coach and stuff. It is fair for ownership to ask why? And what if you can’t get those players, what then?

Not saying Keefe is THE problem but anyone can see that if you lose 5 of 6 home games in the playoffs, you been out coached.

I liked the Doughty hot take too. He plays with the championship swagger from real career accomplishments. Tavares is so ugh.
Don’t think LA would do it though.
Would do a JT Miller for JT trade and think it will work on both sides.

But Timmins and Mete were both 2nd rounders and we got them for nothing.
Not saying draft picks are not valuable bc they are but unless they are in the top 15, a lot of them will be available after their ELCs for nothing.

I don't really mind the picks tbh look at Vegas.

I think some in the media pushing the "Shanny holds Dubas back" narrative because he was against trading our best (one of two NHL) prospects for a trade that was only ok is pretty hilarious however

Would that trade have won us a round, possibly but it wasn't winning us a cup

Based on Dubas press conference and comments it appears the job is TOO BIG for him in this big hockey market and fan and media frenzy. Have you ever heard of another NHL GM every say he is struggling with the pressure that comes with the job of trying to win?

Well Toto we're not in Sault Ste Marie any more, and he appears to have exhausted all as his former Soo Greyhound connections to get to this point, including hitching his wagon and next contract to the Matt Murray decision, which I'm sure is creating mountains of negative feedback contributing to the pressure he is referring to.

If you struggle to find success then stress would be implied on him and his family from the media, particularly with today's social media resources the criticism would be overwhelming.

Perhaps a smaller non traditional market off the grid more where the fans don't live, eat and breath hockey 24/7 is better suited, where every mistake and misstep is not amplified to Nth degree.

If your Ownership and you hear your own manager publicly confessing he is crumbing under the pressure of the job you hired him for, that doesn't scream extension to me personally. IMO
Sure, if you make up stuff l, anything is possible.

Shanahan should ask those questions.

I’m sure the board has an interest but they aren’t going to make hockey decisions for the gm.

Did Dreger just say on Overdrive that Shanahan is just waiting for Dubas to make up his mind?!
Isn’t that obvious?

Haha I need to find my old posts. I literally said this would happen. And people were shitting on me. This ownership group is filled with idiots. If Kyle was your guy would you open Pandora’s box and give him the chance to think about leaving the job.

And as I said about 1000% times. Other executives and coaches have walked away from jobs. I can’t believe they didn’t just extend him and then you have full control, instead of putting it in his hands.

Well, I wouldn’t say they ever had full control, but I do think it was a mistake not extending him earlier. That said, if he walks, hard to say what happens. Could be good, could be bad, could mean very little.
