Haha I need to find my old posts. I literally said this would happen. And people were shitting on me. This ownership group is filled with idiots. If Kyle was your guy would you open Pandora’s box and give him the chance to think about leaving the job.

And as I said about 1000% times. Other executives and coaches have walked away from jobs. I can’t believe they didn’t just extend him and then you have full control, instead of putting it in his hands.
Simple answer is he wasnt always their guy.

Diff is that they actually advanced past the first round a few times and got to the Conf Finals. Which means they actually won a few elimination games. If we switch McD and Drai to AM and MM, the two best players on both teams. There is a good chance the Leafs will be in the ECF.

You’re not wrong on the first part, the second part is clear speculation but I would say at the end of day, the Leafs and Oilers have won the same number of conference final games. Neither team has come close to meeting their expectations

This is why not extending Dubas when they had the chance was really dumb. They could have had full control over the situation, now the fate of the organization is in the hands of Dubas' wife and kids. It's nuts that we're entering the most important offseason in years and don't even know who the GM will be

Couldn’t agree more. If you had extended him, you have the decision to fire him. Kyle could have still walked away. Or you could have just said Kyle you’re keeping your job. It’s just weird they created this level of uncertainty for themselves.

They did the same thing with Masai with the Raptors.

Again, you never have full control over a situation another party has to agree to, but it certainly would have been simpler

Ofcourse but recent past playoffs need to be in consideration too.

Dreger: Shanahan and Leafs brass are 'eagerly waiting' a decision from Dubas - TSN.ca

At the end of the season, many thought the two scenarios for Leafs GM Kyle Dubas would be for Toronto to either fire him, or sign him to an extension. In his end of season media conference, Dubas revealed he might just step away and take some time off. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger has the latest on the situation.
This is like Mitch holding out 🤣:DD

This isn't family related - he probably feels he's being disrespected.
But I could be totally wrong. Something isn't right though

Well even in a worst case scenario, at least you'd know he doesn't want to be here and can start the search for a new GM much earlier. This is just way too precarious of a position to be in with Matthews and Nylander up for new deals in a few weeks

As much as I like the guy idk how he can feel disrespected when he only won 1 playoff round his entire time here and it was in his final year and then they only won 1 game in round 2. A lot of GMs/coaches in this league don't get that many chances to fail. He wants to remain loyal to his coach and this core and they want to repay him like this then it's gonna cost him his dream job while they're still making bank.

It might be a good thing they didn’t extend. Not for hockey reasons but if the guy is in a bad head space with overwhelming personal life issues is he still The Guy?

I think it is fair for ownership to ask Dubas how to improve the team and move forward.
If Dubas plan is move a core piece or two and bring in core pieces back but run with the same coach and stuff. It is fair for ownership to ask why? And what if you can’t get those players, what then?

Not saying Keefe is THE problem but anyone can see that if you lose 5 of 6 home games in the playoffs, you been out coached.

Don’t think LA would do it though.
Would do a JT Miller for JT trade and think it will work on both sides.

My hot take version of the Doughty deal would be EK65. San Jose doesn’t need Karlsson and can get off a lengthier contract. San Jose sounds like a great place to raise a family. Work out the compensation.

Well that's a good point. I just can't believe a multi-billion dollar organization is now being handcuffed by our GM's family since they had a taxing year and that it's only coming up now that his contract is up

Too offensive. Also, unless Muzzin is healthy and can play to his pre-injured level, need to trade for or sign another Dman to play with EK.

Masterful move by Kyle Dubas. Instead of being rightfully fired the leafs will probably be forced to offer him a better contract to get this across the line lol.

Mind games.

He probably didn't get a contract offer until the Leafs won the first round this year, so yes, if that was the case, he probably felt disrespected, but at the same time, how many Leafs GMs got to squander so much of MLSE's money with those overpaid contracts for Nylander, Matthews and Marner? If Marner gets traded this off-season, much of his contract dollar-wise has already been paid out to him, same for Matthews...Tavares also if he waives his NMC and is traded...Dubas pretty much had full usage of MLSE's financial might at his disposal as GM, but still built a team that's been a playoff failure for so many years...he also traded for injury-riddled Murray last off-season who's being paid by MLSE for not playing...he should not blame MLSE for doubting him because he hasn't proven anything. You could argue it's time for MLSE to move on.
