This trade is very similar to the one Gorton made in 2018 with Rick Nash. He got 1st rounder (#26), Ryan Lindgren and two players. He traded his #26 pick to Ottawa for #22 and picked K'Andre Miller with it. Now, Miller and Lindgren are the second D pairing for the Rangers. So Heineman is the Lindgren of that trade, and the pick is likely to be better than #26.
This is what I'm thinking too. Gorton trades CGY's 26th and our 1st for #22 and we draft a 2nd pairing D.

Welcome to Montreal!!

I really like the trade. He looks like a good prospect to have and fit perfectly on Habs prospect pool.

6g, 3 a, 9 points in his 10 last game in Sweden league!!

I like that play where he crashes the net. That speaks to character as much as hockey talent.

Also he knocked someone over without even trying on the third clip.

Seems to have good balance. And decent acceleration, though I wonder how his skating would look next to NHL players.

His recent run of production is encouraging, hope he keeps it up.

I mentioned it in the trade thread, but I think he is a really good prospect. He seems to make a lot of his own chances. I am far from an expert, but just based on following him since the Flames traded for him, it sounds like most people see him as a middle 6 NHL forward one day, but with a high likelihood of making it at least.

I think Flames fans downplayed him because he wasn't our own pick and not an elite prospect. Treliving and Conroy both love the guy and I don't think it was easy for them to trade him.

might turn into a bottom 6/mid 6 guy. We don't need him now, would be great to have guys like this instead of paying top price for bottom 6 players. I like the direction we're headed, even if this pick up doesn't work out.

Perfect Lehkonen replacement, so even more reasons to trade Lehkonen now if the rumoured value is a 1st to start with.

I have Heineman as a B+ prospect.

He’s got a nice set of tools. Good size, good speed, high compete level and can really shoot the puck. Hopefully a cut above Ylonen. To me the trade hinges on him. If he ends up a top 6 player this will be a great trade. If not, we could have waited and gotten better IMO.

yeah lets just forget we got a first rounder too … cool …

Any of our local prospect gurus have an opinion on where he ranks in our prospect pool?

Behind guys like Roy, Mysak, Farrell?

I'd rate him close to Tuch and Mysak. Middle six ceiling.

That's great. I really like Tuch and Mysak, so acquiring another level of that prospect, it's pretty good.

He looks have some qualities of both too.

Maybe a futur Alex Killorn type of player? We don't know.

I think his floor is pretty high, a high quality third liner is the worst you can get. So I clearly see him as a superior prospect than Tuch and Mysak. Now do you rank him over or below Farell and Roy, thats your guess, both are more purely skilled, but more of boom or bust prospects. Farell is pretty small and not a speedster while Roy needs to improve his skating as well.

Rick Nash was a UFA though

Heineman went four spots before both Tuch and Mysak in the 2020 draft.

Honestly not sure if you're trolling, playing off draft positions, or have actually seen these players live. Doubt the latter is likely.

I really hope he does well. Leafs traded Grundstrom who had 24 points in 35 games starting the season at 19 years old and 6th in scoring for his team, Heineman has 16 points in 36 games and is 8th in scoring for his team. Grundstrom is now an effective bottom 6 player for the Kings.
