I think Ehlers has more ground to gain, but it’s dependent on him having a relatively healthy season and gaining chemistry and momentum on a good line.

I wonder if he'll start the season on the injured list

Sure like to know what kind of "off-ice training" can result in long term neck spasms. Maybe Ehlers needs to stay away from such stuff. Kinda like Appleton and soccer balls.

Alongside of Lowry one of my 2 fave Jets. But this is getting extremely frustrating and ridiculous the number of games he misses...I'm sad.
Ehlers used to be my favourite player, but I've lost a lot of respect for him. He's always getting hurt, will not play with any pain, like a lot of other players, and it's a shame he's wasting his talent. I have a feeling this will be a recurring thing with Ehlers. He has the talent to be a 80 -90 point player, and he'll never reach his potential, if he can't suck it up, and play thru some pain. I'm very disappointed in Ehlers, and I've somewhat given up on him. You have to wonder how injured he "really" is ??

So, you're saying Ehlers missed his calling?

I'd rather Ehlers miss every preseason game and be healthy for the regular season. As he is a player that has dealt with significant injuries the last 2 seasons I can see why the team and the player is being cautious.
I do agree as someone who wants to see the Jets succeed that the injuries have been frustrating and at this point, I too wonder if he is prone to them.
Exactly, your video shots totally characterize Ehlers. Too much of that soft soccer psychology in him.
( meant to quote the whole thing. oops)

I don't consider Ehlers a soft player in comparison to the rest of the top 6 unless Chef and KFC are considered soft as well. I'm trying to remember if those other 2 have ever fought or stood up for another player. I know Ehlers has.

I don't think Ehlers is soft. I think he's had really significant injuries, ones you don't simple 'play through'.

Unfortunately he looks like he'll be one of those guys you look at and bemoan what could have been. Too bad, really.

yeah in terms of play-style i don't think he's soft. he is a finesse player for sure but he will go into the corners, won't shy away from contact etc.

he is a band-aid though. i do hope it's nothing however it seems like they have been trying to get him into games and Bowness has been frustrated with the fact he is not participating. i don't think he'd have been that emphatic in his frustration if it was nothing.

I'm not so sure Bones is doing himself any favors airing his frustrations about a players medical condition. Seems his last bit was about it being Ehlers pulling himself from games and not the trainers. That really isn't something he should say to the media.

I don't think there's any hockey universe in which Ehlers is a "soft" player. Agree with @Jet and @Nickel eye Heel hers that he's a player whose game is extremely dynamic and at times risky. He flies around the ice, is not afraid to mix it up in the corners or to take on much bigger players, and spends much of every game on the edge. That's his style, it can be incredibly exciting and has been productive, but it takes a toll.

I would describe that playstyle as not "soft," but fearless and not necessarily canny. KFC is brilliant at escaping contact; Ehlers seems at times to seek it, or at least to be pretty careless about risking it. That's a player who cares deeply and who should probably at this point in his career look to play a safer game. Maybe he needs to spend a week with Adam Oates.

As I've said before here, I avoid online diagnosis, but this presentation has always suggested a recovery range of weeks, not days. The Jets have a strong medical team, and they will, among other things, be looking at his recent pattern of injuries as well as this latest one.

Definitely frustrating for player, coach and team, but waiting for a full recovery at this point, while the season is young and games may feel less urgent, is far preferable to rushing him along. They won't do that.

Soft?
