McDavid and Drai are going to make this guy look like a legit top line winger. Hyman is in the best spot to pad his stats.

This contract will be good for 4 years. Bad for 1-2. Then the last 1-2 will need to be bought out or traded. Hyman is the kind of player who falls off a cliff.

I don’t get how he gets this much considering the deal Hall signed

I agree. This is what the Oilers need. Particularly with McDavid, we need a complementary talent. Everyone looks good next to Drai, but McDavid is a different kind of elite. Most players do not gel with him. If Hyman can complement him, it will be amazing for the team

Considering he was playing on the top 2 lines in Toronto, he will be on the Oilers who are not deep on the wing. The point was, he can play anywhere, and usually makes any line instantly better.

If Goodrow is making 3.6, and Coleman is asking for 6M, this seems to be the going rate for a player like Hyman. I am not saying the deal is great, just that it is market value.
This was a reply to your post where you said he could play on the 1st, 2nd OR 3rd line. I just said....if he ended up playing 3rd line in season 1 this contract is a fail.

I looked at a list of notable 6th round picks of the last decade and one of the top players was Jesper Bratt, and the 40th guy on the list had less than 10 GP.

A 6th round pick (rumored EDM offer) isn't anything of value, and I would rather have them burn 500k cap space than get back a completely useless pick

Picks made by the Leafs, in the 5th round or later, in the past fifteen years, who turned out to be regular NHLers:

Viktor Stalberg
Leo Komarov
Carl Gunnarsson
Connor Brown
Andreas Johnsson
Pierre Engvall

There's others, of course, but it just seems closed-minded to toss away a free lottery ticket without first checking it, y'know?

Man, Hyman is a beast but his playstyle was already catching up with him in the last two years. Plus those knees, if he starts to slow down he'll be half as effective.

I understand why Edmonton is doing it. I mean they have no choice really. They've got to do whatever it takes to bring in good players while McDrai are on their contracts. Plus, it's not easy for them to get free agents in Edmonton.

Doesn't make it any less of an albatross contract.

We all thought Lucic was going to be an Albatross, but when things went sour there, a trade was still made.

With that said, I don't think thisll be the disaster the Lucic signing was. If it doesn't workout and for some reason a trade has to be made 4ish years down the road, it won't be impossible to find suitors

I think there’s a lot of overreacting.

it’s not great but it’s not horrible. He’s gonna be a 20 goal- 40-50 point scorer maybe more if played with McJesus. He also seemed to be the only one with Spezza who gave a shit in the playoffs. The AAV is fine, the length of that contract though ! 7 years at 29. The Habs gave same contract without a no move at Rocket man Anderson but at 26. And I take rocket man everyday before I take Hyman

The funniest people in this thread are the leafs fans acting like this is an absolute boat anchoring when they were the same ones tossing his name into every “most underrated “ thread for the past 3 years.

Yes the term is too long but wow the hypocrisy is unbelievable

Hyman is great. As long as Edmonton avoids a NMC or a NTC, there will be a team to dump him on in year 6 of the deal.

Oilers fans youre going to love him he works hard every shift, but you will grow to hate this contract, another good player signing for too much and too long. Hopefully you win it all in the first 3 years and wont have to worry about it.
