Yes I like this move Ryan Strome with some upside if he somehow spark up and remember his 2014/15 season when he had actually 50 pts - hopefully our 4th line can start producing, and send V. Litteri down to Woflpack to build some self confidence.

This is an interesting deal in that Spooner in street clothes or on the 4th line was equally useless, and Quinn kept spoon feeding him pp time too. Strome is a missing righty shot that can comfortably play at least the 4th line, adds some size, better than Lettieri and McLeod while at it. Also recent forwards moved out of Edmonton have been able to turn things around, so a mild chance he's better?

i've gotta assume that the primary motivation behind this deal was to get someone to play with anderson. not sure who plays center and who plays wing but they had to try to find a real player to play with lias

Strome is a RHS and a natural center, so I would imagine they'd try Lias LW and Strome C first.

Makes sense to me, but idk.

Ah yes the ol' useless for useless trade

Gorton ****ed up not trading Spooner for picks this summer.

No, Jeff did not - you would never gain Spooner value in consider top picks you think he is worth, because his value dropped dramatically start of this season, and our current 4th line in NHL is not producing at all.

This is true, but of the guys they’re moving realistically who would need to have salary retained?
Cap room will be tight for a lot of teams. I'd like to have the option of retaining on Hayes, Zuccarello and McQuaid if it will improve the return. It's unlikely it will turn out that way, so this is a very minor complaint. With all that were moved out last year, only Nash was retained on. It does take the same bullet away next year too.

You guys saying that he can be a 4th line center, before this season he's had comfortably 3rd line production. If he's a team's 4th line center that team has great center depth.

Yeah agreed and I think time has run out on Lettieri. He should be thankful he got to collect an nhl paycheck for as long has he did. He stole it

Right handed shot who can PK, so that's something I guess. Most likely Strome is a better player than the 4th round pick we would have otherwise drafted will be, so... Yay?????

I think it comes down to where they see Lias long term. i think given other centers they need to accept that he's gonna have to play wing to get into the top 9 and i want to eventually see him on howden's wing on the 3rd line. but if they remain committed to him being a center, i don't think strome changes that.

Well, yes. But, it's like if I said Spooner could be a good wing on the fourth line, the response could be that his production had been way better than a fourth liner. But, they've both sucked this year, so who knows what they really are?

Not a fan of retaining 900k.

NYR is not retaining salary on any contracts right now, and Gorton is allowed to do this for up to 3 contracts. These guys were replaceable parts on short term contracts, Gorton overpaid them because they were primarily components for the room, not for the ice (my opinion).

$900k is not a big deal to retain. This is a good change of scenery trade

One thing I don't like is that they can only retain on two more contracts at the trade deadline now, if needed.
Same. Unless it’s just for this season in which case it’s probably not so bad. But couldn’t the Rangers have just taken back an extra crap contract?
