Do people still think that Yamamoto had positive trade value and could had fetch a late pick?

Can you even sign Yammo? Not that I think he would.

Is there not a rule about shipping out a contract to get bought out and then signing the player?

If not there probably should be

I don’t think anyone will argue he didn’t struggle last year (largely due to injuries), but he had 20 goals and 41 points a year prior. That’s 2nd line production, and he’s a massive bargain if we can get him closer to a million.
Any player in the nhl will get you 20-20 playing with one of our top two lines. We keep falling into the same trap. He under performs on the top two lines where his total upsiade is 20 goals and is 100% nothing player in the bottom 6. We can get someone to score 20 who has some size or grit, or a better defensive game.

Absolutely hard no to Yamamoto coming back. He's utterly useless in the playoffs, even more useless than in the regular season. As McDavid said, it's cup or bust and we need guys that can perform well in the playoffs, not liabilities like Yamamoto, who completely sewered the second line in those last 2-3 games against Vegas.

Also, I think the thing about Leon saying he likes to play with Yamamoto has been blown out of context. Draisaitl may have said this during 2020, when Yamamoto had his one good season, and, besides, Draisaitl would never throw a teammate under the bus. He once said that he loves playing with Kassian. Should we bring Kassian back, too?

Detroit is paper thin, of course they can find room for Kostin. I was saying it for days before the trade, and I'll stand by this statement. On Edmonton, he's a 4th liner. On lesser teams, he might be a middle sixer, but on Edmonton, he was a 4th liner unless he earned a spot in the top six, as our 3rd line was our energy/shut down guy line, and he wasn't a fit there. I'd love it if we manage to find a way to get him back, as long as its in the bottom line role, until he earns a spot on the 2nd line.

Archibald was a more reliable player for us than Kostin. He wasn't as flashy, and he was small, but he could kill penalties and be used in key situations, until COVID anyway.
Kostin is better topsix option than Yama is. He was showing this to be the case the few times he got elevated. Kostin could have been a cheap topsix option fill here and with a good shot and quick release would look good with Drai. Kostin also good at timing into slot for scoring opportunities.

That’s just so unbelievably false. Between 2017/18 and 2020/21, not a single forward outside McDavid/Drai/Nuge put up over 40 points. Not one.

Playing with Drai and McD alternately it isn't. Its the bare minimum any player would have. Derek Ryan would have more pts and goals playing with the two.

As I just said in my last post, 0 forwards in a 4 year span managed 40 points playing with McDavid/Drai/Nuge. If that was the bare minimum, it should have happened 12 times. Not zero.

NAMELY because we had duds like Khaira, Yama etc and any fill we could find taking up those spots. We had zero winger talent. That isn't the same as it not existing as a commodity, it just didnt exist here. Kostin would score 20 playing with Drai. he would've last season.

This is a really weird argument. Everybody knows our winger lineup was shit under Chiarelli. Its why Drai was being stuck with turds like Khaira and Yama. It SHOULD BE the bare minimum to put up 40pts playing with generational superstars. Even the Flames had several wingers that would've.

Kostin would have. Easily.

... was being paid = past tense.

There are plenty of vets that can be signed for the $2M that Kostin wants and will actually play both ends of the ice. I liked Kostin's rugged "style" too as a fan, but I want my GM to sign guys that get "results"

I agree 2m is too much for a team top heavy on salaries like this team. But it's false to say Yamamoto was given away for nothing. Wings clearly see value in kostin so much so they are buying out Yamamoto.

The whole narrative of dumping Yamamoto for nothing and kostin is worthless goes out the window when you see Detroit do this.

Archibald was beyond useless and this is the very problem we have. You don't need to delve massively into the data to see how bad he was.

Give it a rest. Kostin priced himself out. If Yamamoto comes back it's as a depth guy for cheap cheap cheap.

The caps did it back in 2018 with Orpik. Iirc, it’s all about intent, so if we’re trading him with the purpose of clearing cap and they happen to buy him out, it’s fine. If we’re trading him to them for them to buy him out and us sign him to a pre agreed extension, it’s not.

Considering how much the guys in the room love Yamo, and how Leon always wants to play with him, it’s a no brainer imo.

He’s only making 433k from Detroit this year. It’s a 1/3rd buyout because of his age
oh jebus. Leon was saying that to be nice. he says it about lots of players. He said he LOVED playing with Kassian. he actually did. Would you bring him back because Leon said so?

If this team really does love having Yams in topsix they sure don't like accomplishing much in playoffs, because you won't with a smurf like him in topsix.

Find it hilarious how much Yams gets blanket support from the media.

Dreger gibberish states that "Detroit strongly considered keeping him" lmfao. What fiction. They bought him out soon as they had the time. Clearly Detroit with capspace doesn't think Yama or his contract are even worth having.

Sad Yama panda face: Nobody wants me.

Of course they keep Kostin, the player that is worth having who they have already promised will be getting a much bigger role.
