Have they even talked about this trade on TSN yet? I tuned in to see, and have been forced to listen to the Flames gomer GM for a while.
Flames gm ade out like a bandit today! Just saying
The only downside of this trade is that we gave Anaheim a little more capspace to try and get deals done on both Vatanen and Lindholm.
This is a very good point. Freeing up cap space was obviously part of the game plan for Anaheim with this deal.

I don't think 1.5 mil for 1 year will make vat suddenly signable. The cap issues stem from guys like kesler signed long term, or even getzlaf + Perry making a ton.
I think it opens dialoug tho for a trade

I would like Vatanen to be available as well but I have trouble believing that Anaheim wont try to retain their promising young players.
I look at it as part of a plan which for them includes shedding salary. Thats not something you do all at once.
That being said I like how the Oilers will be positioned at the draft. Plenty of ammo and cap space allowing for some interesting possibilities.
I don't see the Ducks helping out the Oilers blueline. This is probably the only favour we're going to get.
Everyone is too civil and unified about acquiring a player.
i don't like the move very much, if you are looking for dissenting voices, lol... i think its a move we look back on in 2 years and say "he just couldn't mesh with our existing players who weren't able to play the cycle game very well"
although i must admit, knowing that we are only paying him 1.5 vs 2 sure does help a bit
You'd rather have Gernat and a 4th?
They didn't give up much for this player who SHOULD be an effective 3rd line player.
I respect your opinion and he may not fit in, but it's worth the risk for what they gave up. His contract isn't a big issue since it's $1.5 mil and expires before the McDavid bomb drops in 2018.
I don't like this as much as many here do but it is nice to see a fan base generally disappointed with losing the guy we are getting.
I think he has struggled a bit this year. Is slow. And the Ducks had superior players plus wanted some cap space.
He could easily end up being for us what he was for them. An expensive fourth liner.
Let's hope he has success here and he certainly adds some nice size.

Yah no doubt, this guy is a heavy player. Perfect for the PP screen. I don't think Chia got this guy for the 4th line, he has a really good shot and soft hands. Also is fairly tough and can take the body pretty well. At 1.5 per you take this guy all day long.We got a 3rd for Schultz.
And got Maroon at 75% for Gernat and a 4th.
I think people would have been ecstatic with a Schultz for Maroon move. This is great.
