I wonder if our magical skating coach can help him improve his starting and stopping speed.

Either way, this guy is exactly what this team needed at this point, and moving forward, and we got him for peanuts.

Chia is beginning to put his mark on this team, and as minor as they seem, this move, and the kassian move make this forward core a lot more exciting.

You get rid of a yak/eberle and aquire another guy with some grit to go with his skill like eriksson or lucic, and suddenly our top 9 is huge, and mean.

Hall Drai Kassian
Lucic Mcdavid Yak/Eberle
Pouliot RNH Maroon
Pak Letestu Khaira
Hendricks/Cracknell

That's exciting to think about. Perfect mix of size, grit, and skill.

I DO think we have a big shot at Lucic. I have talked to Lucic a couple times and he likes coming to Edmonton. People talk like he loves LA...i am not a believer. Would he re-sign? yes. If he hits the market would he be AGAINST being in Edmonton? No. I think he genuinely likes playing in hockey mad markets, he likes pressure, he likes that its important and he loves fans. He is a very passionate guy. I think he will be slowing down and injuries will start being an issue for him. It will be interesting to see what happens

I think if the Oilers can show progress and give Chia something to point to that we are building this new team...i think we can get some stuff done.

Im thinking that those 3rd rounders are good to use to trade for ufa rights on draft day to get an advantage on signing guys.

Its hard to believe that a couple days can make me a believer that a GM has the proper vision....but thats what has happened.

Duck fan here.

You guys will like Maroon. I knew Maroon was a goner but why we did this now and retain salary is beyond me. Hate this trade personally but I wish him well in Edmonton, as I no longer have to hate you guys now that Judas is a Pen. ;)

Okay here's some scouting on Maroon:

Pros: excellent on the cycle. His board play is his best attribute. Good vision. Hes got decent finishing ability. He does stick up for his teammates too.

Weaknesses: SLOW. He's a very slow skater. What keeps him from being a permanent top 6 guy is his lack of foot speed. Teams pick up on that and put a quicker line against them, and it makes them a little bit of a liability defensively. The problem is you can't put him with quick wingers because his game is the cycle game and board play.

Worth ethic: this pretty much killed him this year. Murray and Bruce were clearly pretty pissed about his lackluster conditioning to start this year. Reports were that he was pissed he was being used in a bottom 6 role to start this year.

The best use of Maroon is on a 3rd or 4th line where he won't see top completion. My favorite 4th line we had was he, Thompson, and Jackman. Very generic but effective.

Anyway, you guys will like him. You should be very happy with this deal. Cheers.

My condolences. I loved watching Maroon on the Ducks. Damn straight this player will be loved here before the season is out. Oilers are changing their identity with players like Maroon, Kass, Gryba. Plus Maroon can play.

Can't believe the bolded either, what on Earth? To me Maroon was one of the hardest players for your Nemesis, the Kings, to play. He seems even bigger in the playoffs.

The game has slowed down considerably so Maroons skating ability doesn't concern me.

we need to slow our game down too. need to stop rushing every offensive play and attack more as a five man group. rush when you can catch a mistake in coverage but oilers will be better taking a bit off the throttle and simply working harder physically.

wait....thats actual hockey

is this the beginning of actual hockey and the end of beer league shinny?

Is there a link out there with Maroon's SN interview? Would love to hear his comments about how our coaching and stuff has changed in his opinion.

he means, in the chia gif... Tom Cruise is dancing backwards. hes just making a joke. (as in this team...is taking steps backwards)

reverse the gif so he moves forwards. actually makes some sense because we can play MacT moving backwards and Chia moving forwards.
And you can add McD and our next top pick in there too with Chia

I was fairly pleased with just getting him. It being for only a 4th and Gernat is great. The fact that they're retaining 500k is just icing on the cake.

And Chia's already said he isn't giving Boston our 2nd this year
