How many times has a team lost both games at home to open the series and still win? I vaguely remember it happening in the 2000's sometime but it has to be uber-rare. I do remember one famous one in Leafs' history when the Leafs went into Philadelphia and won the two opening games against the Flyers at the Spectrum (1977) and carried a lead into the last minute of the 3rd game losing it after a late goal then OT goal. Then they lost the next 3 games.

Boston in 2011 finals, oh wait those games were both in Vancouver.

Rocky was the story of a huge underdog which the Leafs ain't. Try again.

Well, except for Rocky 3.

Rock loses his edge in the ring and Clubber Lang, a serious newcomer, steps in and bests a complacent Balboa in their first fight. Rocky trains, has a montage running on the beach, and wins his rematch with an angry and undisciplined opponent.

What I'm saying is... we need a beach.

In NHL playoff history, teams that have lost the first two games of a best-of-seven series have come back to win the series 18.8% of the time (based on data up to the end of the 2021 playoffs).

To put this in perspective, out of the 339 teams that have gone down 0-2 in a best-of-seven series, only 64 teams have managed to come back and win the series. The most recent team to accomplish this feat was the Montreal Canadiens in the 2021 playoffs, when they overcame a 0-2 deficit to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs in seven games in the first round.
Bruins lost first two to Vancouver in the 2011 SCF and went on to win the SC but they lost first two on the road.

Caps lost first two at home vs CBJ in round 1 and went on to win the SC in 2018.

NJ just lost the first two at home to NYR and won the series in 7.

Paul Maurice has an unbeaten record in game 7s, I'd rather it not go there.

Devils just did it in round 1

Not sure how that loss is on Keefe. Other than the PP not capitalizing but we did have some great chances

It will be Keefes fault though if we don't come out with energy tonight. We have to be ready to go
Didn't say the loss was on him. I am saying, I am not sure what is happening, but they are a possession team and it feels like they are chasing the game. Look at how many mins they have led in these play-offs. I am not smart enough to understand what has changed, but they don't seem to have the puck nearly as often and spend a lot of energy trying to get it back.

I agree, with stick to the gameplan. But I wonder if his game plan is the right one? The tempo of the game doesn't look much different than playoff games of years gone bye. It's like Keefe is happy keeping the game close while winning or losing on a bad bounce.

Anyone else think they should go back to that Kerfoot-Kampf-Acciari line? It worked well together when they played together before. It's a very safe and reliable 4th line who you aren't afraid to have out even against top lines. Try Lafferty out in a bit of a more offensive role with O'Rielly and Bunting on the 3rd line instead of his crazy 85-90% defensive zone starts Keefe has our 4th line on. Maybe it gets Lafferty and Kerfoot going a bit and Kampf.

It’s not like Tkachuk scored 4 goals against us. Vegas and Seattle didn’t seem bothered. We need to play our game and let them worry about stopping us.
Great point. Just put Nylander and Tavares out against them and hope their goalie lets in a few softies.

I know it's really really tempting for this Leafs' team to just play a trade scoring chances type of series with the Panthers. Don't do it. Limit their scoring chances. Don't get lulled into the complacency of a low hit, lower intensity playoff series.

Yeah, Florida enjoys the run and gun style we used to play. They are great at capitalizing on turnovers.

Florida isn't good defensively because of it. We just need to stay strong defensively, and we'll be able to capitalize.

And cut out the late periods goals against. That is what cost us Game 1. We tied it, had all the momentum, just to give them the lead back heading into the dressing room.
