Happy with the win. No complaining out of me, but they’re going to need to find another gear to make a real run.

The Niskanen conversation has to happen soon. I’d like to give him time to play himself out of it, but margins are so small. It would be a lot easier to give him more space up 3-1, so here’s hoping.

I honestly think this may be the toughest match up theyll face. Skill wise, they can hang with most of the top teams. But we can't handle speed... like, at all. Tampa will be scary, but im honestly not terrified of any other team.

I think you and I were in agreement before this series, that MTL was probably one of the worst draws we could get, given Price mainly, but also because of their speed.

True on Couts. I am just saying the Flyers probably cannot go much longer with those two lines producing so little.
O yes. I agree, we need to pick it up. I would switch Raffl and Laughton. Raffl always has been good at holding the puck and on D... maybe Hayes Raffl and TK can find chemestry.
Move Laughton down with JVR and Grant and move NAK to 4th. Maybe?.

What? Ghost is vastly better with the puck. He gets it up ice. Hagg singlehandedly trapped them in their own end for two shifts when he elected to fling the puck past Braun for no reason, straight to the Habs. He wasn't even under pressure. That pairing is noticeably ineffective with Ghost out.
I couldn’t agree more. I actually do like Hagg I enjoy that he throws his weight around and will rough it up a bit and block shots but ghost >hagg by a lot if they just let him play some games in a row, he can spark some offense we desperately need

I want to be positive, and it's not about style points in elimination games. But the Flyers game plan was to basically make the game as low event as humanly possible -- although Scott Laughton didn't get the memo -- and grind their way from an early 1 goal lead. Rely on the Couturier line, one defense pair (Sanheim-Myers), and goaltending. Against the 12th place team in the East. That's a strategy a team does because they LACK the talent advantage, not because they're the 1st seed.

Canadiens were a hair and a post off today. The Flyers did everything in their power, at evens and special teams, to not run away with the game. They probably beat the Canadiens this series, as they should. But these just aren't inspiring wins for a team that wants to go deeper. There's enough in this tape to not take this win for granted, but I smell a whiff of confirmation bias coming from tomorrow's coaching meeting.

Who in your mind is our best dman?

Come on now, they weren’t remotely as bad as Game 2. Let’s get real here, we were better in every single facet tonight... except the PP.

Yeh.

Tonight was very low event.

BUT the Flyers controlled the play for 45 minutes and did not let the Canadiens play their game. Did not let them get in close. Or establish a forecheck. And matched their NZ f***-ery.

They out-Canadiened the Canadiens.

Not a fun way to win. But it worked. And they were the better team.

This is where I'm at. The Islanders would be a pretty shitty matchup as well. I'd enter a series against Washington with more confidence than I would against just about any playoff team in the East.

The Flyers are below average at handling pressure in the neutral zone. Not coincidentally enough, it's the same reason their PP struggles against pressure PK systems.

Awful game.

Good win.

They did not let the Canadiens have a single shot from within ~10ft.

Small victories.

They were also the better team. Even if marginal.

Kotkaniemi had 1 in the final minute, though he didnt get good wood on it with Provy disrupting his stick.

the lack of energy the Flyers played with made them look like they've been playing since March straight through

That’s a good idea.

Gotta give credit to Montreal though, they are rushing the Flyers into mistakes.

4th line getting so much time is not all bad. It’s not like the top 6 is doing anything, although they could use the reps. And we do have a back to back the next game. So the rest isn’t the worst thing.
