Proposal: (COL) Rantanen for (NYR) Shesterkin

NYR should drop all conversations right now. He hasn't been playing well since that 11.5 rumor hit. Some nights he's amazing. Other nights he doesn't scream highest paid goalie on an 8 year deal. I'm not saying he's easily replaceable because he's not, but the organization needs a hard look into the next 4-5 years and say "We can win with this group or we need to make some serious moves and can't do that with a 12M goalie".

League aren't in the market for a 12mil+ goalie. They currently have 3 low cost options who are playing very solid. Their d is signed for several years and currently have in the top 5 or so GA in the league this year.

I know your takes are usually delusional and only benefit thr rangers but what exactly do you think the Leafs would be giving up here?

If they give him $11.5m-$12m, the cap probably won’t go up enough to be able to make moves to put this team over the top in the next 2-3 year.

That then gives the Rangers 2-3 years to win with. If they don’t win in that period, they’ll have an absolutely immovable contract to a mid-late 30’s goalie who will be on the decline.

This scenario sound familiar? If it does, it’s because it’s Hank, all over again.

I’m not saying Igor is replaceable by any means either, but if the comments about this being “the last dance” are true, that indicates change and a possible re-tool. It wouldn’t make sense to cave to Igor’s demands when a re-tool is needed.

Quite frankly, I don’t think they’re good enough to win. Regardless of outcome, if he wants $10m+, see ya.

Colorado Avalanche goalie situation is very concerning. Not sure they want to push the panic button but very tough to think but they will missing playoff without help in net.
Does include they want to move Rantanen ? No for sure

3. leafs would have to make best competitive offer or accept consequences of another yr of standing pat and if they fall short, again, it will not be pretty

The organization just repeats the process of relying on your goalie to carry you. It works until it doesn't and then you're left running it back and never really improving.

I understand the panic is not having a legit goalie. If you look at the UFA list for the next 2 years, it's terrible for goalies. Most teams don't just let good goalies walk to UFA, they trade them if they can't sign. Igor hitting the market would be absolutely insane for some teams. Whether they want to spend the 12m or not is another story. There's nothing available for the next 3 years outside of a trade if you're looking at a legit starter to mask some of your team flaws. With that said we have seen players have career years after not looking like starter caliber goalies, so you never know if a goalie can get hot at the right time.

Playing so terrible that he’s the Vezina favorite.

You have your mind made up and are too prideful to admit you’re wrong. You’ll look like a sucker when you try to replace the team’s best player and find out that the rest of the team isn’t that good and we’ll be on the playoff bubble with him.

You're thinking the Toronto Maple Leafs would have the cap space to give Shesterkin a contract that the Rangers can't or won't afford?

Idk kind of being outplayed by his backup tbh.

Bad stat watching. Quick is given a few soft starts here or there. Never gets any of the difficult games and like less than half of the workload. He also started last season fast, and then leveled off a little, so let’s relax on a four game sample hot take.

And I don’t know how it’s some insult that the team has a good backup. Has nothing to do with how a starter plays.

Stolarz has been even better than Shesterkin this season. Considering he makes like $10M less than Shesterkin wants, they would have no interest in trading for him. They also have Woll and two good prospects in the AHL. Goaltending is the least of their concerns.

Guilty as charged. Have both in fantasy and lately it's igor giving up a couple goals early in a game that lead to a bunch of GA, whereas Quick getting shutouts.
