Im not a Leaf fan. Nobody is going to take cap off of you without a good asset. For Bolland it was Crouse. Ik Stoner is a lot more valuable than Bolland but Crouse is more valuable than Ritchie so I thought that made up for it. With that deal you get room to sign Lindholm and Rakell.

How is Crouse more valuable than Ritchie? Ritchie already has put up good numbers in the AHL, had a cup of coffee in the NHL and was more productive in juniors than Crouse has been so far.

How are the Ducks able to become Stanley Cup contenders if ownership won't spend to the cap?

We were contenders, in 2015 for sure with that budget.
At the moment we are not but if we can get Timon and Pumba resigned without losing much and win on some trade for a forward, hopefully we can become one

You can win without spending to the cap, we did it in 2007 and I think Carolina did it in 2006. Plus, we were definitely contenders in 2015 - making it to game 7 of the WCF. Obviously, it would be easier if we could spend a few extra million.

A team can contend and even win a title without spending to the cap, but the problem is that the window is far shorter. It requires some significant contributions from guys on 1st or 2nd contracts, and when those end in another year or 2, everyone wants to get paid. Thus you end up losing guys.

Fowler for Mantha+2nd rounder

Mantha is big, history of scoring goals, young, and almost nothing for a cap hit so they can re-sign Lindholm

Fowler helps fix Detroit's D

I like Mantha a lot, but I'm not sure that's enough value. Plus, how does Detroit fit Fowler under the cap?

Trade Ericsson or Smith for picks probably. LTIR someone. Combo of the two. Ditch Howard somehow and call up Coreau. It can definitely be done. Holland isn't good at pretty much anything anymore, but he always finds a way to cut the cap real close and use every penny.

I don't understand how that isn't enough value. It helps your cap situation probably better than any other trade you could make to throw a bit more money at those free agents and get it done. ANH definitely has a history of big forwards, Mantha is 6'5". He loves to drive the net. Plus a second rounder to boot. Very young too.

A prospect + 2nd rounder for a 25 year old fringe top pairing defender likely doesn't get it done.

Maybe if the pick was a first.

It's probably a moot point anyway. That's asking Holland to move quite a few pieces around. We all know how he loves to make trades.

Beside Detroit who else could be in play?

Would depend on the ask from Anaheim.
I would assume lots of teams at least called to inquire and throw a proposal in, but who is serious and has a shot...???
Until we know what the Ducks want in return, we can only speculate based on who needs to fill that position.
I would say Montreal is in, as Bergevin is in win now mode.
Possibly Toronto, depending where they see themselves in their rebuild.
Maybe Boston, if they are kicking tires on Krug for Trouba.

If it's someone like Fowler, there's a lot of teams that would be interested even if they have most or all their spots filled. Some teams will likely make room for a guy like Fowler. I could see Toronto talking. Carolina may as well. Arizona was looking for a top four guy but I doubt Anaheim would be very interested in moving Fowler as a salary move within the division. Jets could be interested if they want to improve their left side. Nothing much beyond that.

I think people should be on 1) the player moved and 2) the team he is traded to

for ALL the bragging rights lol

You got Despres with major concussion issues and a long contract, not a good combo.

Stoner which nobody is really that interested in.

Fowler who has value but Ducks without him seem like a bit of a slow as molasses team.

They hold onto their draft picks especially 1st rounders and develop players. They could be real scary if they had a real ownership group willing to spend to the cap.

Its sad to think if we could have kept guys like Beleeskey beauchmin or palmeiri after those playoff runs for the following season.

Or going further back not trade andy mac :'( I cried

No, it didn't. Carter signed the extension in November and was traded at the end of the season. Vatanen just signed his deal this off season.

Do you have an example of a player signing a long term deal in the off season and then being dealt that same off season?

Do you have an example of a Subban for Weber trade?

Things happen. Can you say that they wouldn't trade him?

With the players coming up on defense, it's not a bad idea.
