This is about as weak as it gets. Dubois and Grundstrom both deserved to be benched after that weak-a$$ display.

Most obvious play in hockey, protect the middle of the ice in your own zone. Had he actually hustled and used his body he could’ve knocked him off the puck or disturbed it enough to not allow the move.

At this point just do whatever you can to get him going. Put him at LW with Kopitar and Kempe, give him top PP minutes and so on. Anything you can to inflate his numbers. Then you pray someone is willing to make a deal before his NMC kicks in. Retain a million or two if you have to, it's better than buying him out.

I don't think I've ever disliked a King more.

I think it happens in weeks. Gonna be dominos. Todd trying to save his job benches PLD when that doesn’t work Blake trying to save his job fires Todd when Blake promotes interim head coach Marco Sturm and Kings miss the playoffs Blake is let go by Robitaille in the offseason and Luc promotes Bergy and the cycle continues !

As Hab fans, we are compelled to supporting LA fans from committing self harm. 🤪

What’s scary is the bomb and distraction that is gonna happen once the inevitable happens and management stops tip toeing around Proven Listless Disaster
In a Habs forum I opened a thread and named him...PLDonkey

Back in Greece, way back when I was a youngster, my uncle had a donkey that simply refused to do any work. He didn't have the heart to get rid of it...but my aunt did. Went for a loooong hike and she claimed the donkey "ran away". (They can survive in the wild and actually don't have any predators there.)

Thus PLDonkey...

(BTW, the reason i'm still pissed at him was that i was a huge fan and filibusters hard in our forum for the Habs to get him. Fully bought into "i want to play for my home team". Lots of egg on my face, thus this is my revenge! 🤪)

I think you guys are being overly optimistic that this will be the end of Blake. Let’s be real, even after he inevitably trades Kaliyev and a 1st for Tarasenko or a similar rental, Luc isn’t going to fire his buddy. AEG won’t fire Luc unless the Kings lose out on that sweet playoff revenue, which is still unlikely and will be even more so after said deadline desperation trade. I think this group stays in charge until Kopi is gone and it’s too late to buy out Dubois.

This trade is definitely the end of Blake, but I don't think it will be this season like you said. There has been little to zero accountability and no indication that that changes in the coming weeks or this summer.
That said the PLD trade 100% feels like the pendulum starting to move and come for Blake's head.

Listen to Hoven's latest podcast - he doesn't think Blake or even TM is going anywhere. Bernstein had to chime in and say if the Kings keep losing then def TM is on the hot seat.

Blake just got an extension, so....

There is ZERO chance Blake buys him out this summer.

The only chance is if there's a new GM in place. But even then, i think a trade would be the more likely scenario - if they wanted to get rid of him. Unlikely to happen until he turns things around and shows he's worth something to another GM.

Offense very much intended, but it's hard to see the bigger picture when you're gargling balls for "insider info" as hard as Hoven and most of the LA media is.

So Cal
The whole sequence screams of ineptitude...

Vilardi slides in draft due to injury/durability questions....

Early on those concerns look valid as pro-career hampered; many citing his selection as a wasted pick.

Guy perseveres and battles back to show hes not only a bonafide nhl player but clearly a high level talent- only to have Blake trade him or a guy widely regarded as a lazy/indifferent player.

Blake was very determined to turn that asset into an anchor.

The top ten worst shifts of the year from a Kings player are going to belong to this guy.

Shift after the first Panthers goal was a real beauty. The one earlier in the game when he was determined to take a penalty was fantastic as well.

Brutal.
Was that the one where he could have been called for three different slashes?

Obviously, as it currently stnads the contract is looking bad unless PLD dramatically improves his play, but keep in mind the cap is going to rise the new few years into the low $90 million range coupled with a few guys presumably coming off the books in the next year or two (Arvy, Roy, eventually Kopitar) as bad as the number is, it's not going to be crippling.

Praying to the sweet baby Jesus, he can pick things up.

There isn't anyway such horrible effort being payed that much doesn't hurt team chemistry at some point. Keeping him is saying that poor effort and play is acceptable at some level.

Wah, wah, wah. All I hear is a bunch of f***ing complainers. What you all don’t understand is that actually hockey is a really hard sport and sometimes PL is a little sleepy guy and sometimes his tummy hurts but he is being so brave by going out there every night and giving it his mediumest effort. And honestly, I think it’s really cool of him to be a man of the people. Ask yourself this: have you EVER given 100% effort for an employer? No? Didn’t think so. And why should we? Just so these rich capitalists can control more of the economy? Dubois understands something you plebs do not: it’s time to seize the means of production! And the fact that we the people have not helped in any way is frankly depressing and gross. He signed with the “Kings” as a way to protest the current American oligarchy, to call out the hypocrisy, I mean for God’s sake what would George Washington think if he knew dozens of people were celebrating a team called the Kings? Is this what our founding fathers wrote the constitution for? To make billionaires richer? At this point I’m starting to wonder if Dubois might be the only one to actually get it

Do better y’all smfh

PLD at his best could be a physical beast. I don't think he slacks as much as some say he does. He is a big man and his skating stride has a bit to do with it. I do think he needs to play with Fiala or Kempe. Problem is, I think Kempe is the catalyst on Kopi's line. When RV gets back, my hope is he goes back with Moore and Danault and Fiala goes back to PLD.

The Vilardi stuff gnaws at me though. He was becoming a fan favorite and finally showing what he was capable of. I still don't know what happened there. Was there issues behind the scene? Were they worried about injuries?

If they ever put PLD on the wing I will be pissed. That seems to be the main reason they went after him and the main reason they included Gabe.

PLD had a really good season last year playing with Ehlers. I do wonder if he was one of the guys called out by the coach tho. They need to get him going because he won't be going anywhere for a long time.
