Didn't read through the entire GDT but noticed everyone was all over Grundstrom on the Hagel goal but, my god, how weak was Dubois on that play as well?

Fox doesn't dare lay into him. He will burn Kaliyev alive every chance he gets though. Laferriere's turnover at center ice that led to the tying goal was a "forced turnover" so he absolved him of any blame but Kaliyev has to get the puck deep on the first goal against.

He got absolutely dummied, ran thru like Byfield did to Guhle in MTL, PLD just spun right off him like a top, it was pathetic

I was comparing him to Penner but now that's just in puck play, off the puck he makes Penner look like Bobby Clarke

This is about as weak as it gets. Dubois and Grundstrom both deserved to be benched after that weak-a$$ display.

Only against the Kings can you be 6 feet tall and cut back into the middle with your head down and no regard for self and come out with a goal rather than a concussion.

THAT is why this is unfix-able via trade.

I hate to say it, but they need to put PLD on the first line and play him over 20 minutes a game. Not that he deserves it, but the team really needs to see what they have with him. Let him be the guy. If he fails to show what he's capable of, then get rid of him. As a plus, it gives Kopitar some rest.

The problem with buying him out is the same problem with stupidly sending Bjornfot back to the minors, $$$, and we are dealing with real life, not a video game. You are asking ownership, who has already paid out (and in some cases is still paying) tens of millions of dollars to players to not play for the Kings. This one would would make Mike Richards, Matt Greene and Dion Phaneuf look like flipping a few bucks into a Salvation Army box.

I really don't think Luc and Blake would have the balls to go to the AEG and ask for a PLD buyout after 1 season. The Kings will give this at minimum one more season, but more than likely 2-3 seasons before considering going down that route. But right now he is untradeable unless its for a guy like Huberdeau.

Could have had Perry on the Kings if the Kings used any of their 3 first round picks in 03 on him. I believe they had 26 and 27 and Perry went at 28.

Prime Brown and Perry on the same team??

But they took Jeff Tambelini, who I think topped out at 17 points in a season.

Worse player than Dubois!! (Really reaching for a silver lining here)

If they bought him out this summer they would only have to pay 1/3rd of his entire contract as he is only 25. From what I understand, it becomes a much more expensive endeavor from then on - buying him out now would actually be cheaper than buying him out in a few years.

And let's not forget, Blake has already had to buyout Phanuef and Kovalchuk. Its not uncharted waters.

And Boyle too. Rumor was the Kings had a chance to move up and get one of the centers or Parise, but Taylor/Murray refused to because they fell in love with Boyle and his size. Both guys busted out in LA.

Blake shit the bed so hard that he fell into his kitchen. You couldnt ask for a worse scenario. The optics on this are so bad there is no way he could get away with the buyout. Team is stuck with a culture killer for as long as it takes get out from under this which will probably be a face saving limp along with this clown for a couple of years and then jetison with retention. So effectively you lost the value of Vilardi and you f***ed your cap and closed your window... ie you wasted your entire rebuild stockpile from sucking for 5 years. I hope AEG sends this festering mess where it belongs which is the dumpster. The new regime will need to address getting rid of dubois and start a new rebuild.. because they are f***ed.

Not saying that Blake shouldn't buy out PLD's contract, but he won't.

Saving over $30 million dollars MUST be considered.

The last 7 years of a buyout would only be at a $1.13 million cap hit. No other year would be even half of his normal cap hit. This isn't outlandish, it is fiscally responsible and removes a horrible mistake.

Blake knows the taste of crow, its an old friend.

If Blake bought him out, he'd likely be putting the nail in his own coffin.

You've gotta wonder what's going through Rob's mind right now in regards to this ordeal.

You'd assume management did their homework on this player before acquiring/signing him. It's not like there wasn't a lot of red flags.

Dubois's salary next two seasons:
24-25 11.25M
25-26 11.35M

I'm not saying it hasn't been considered, either.

You think Blake will buy out the contract of his friend's malcontent client? The same friend who's also best friends with his boss?

Blake's in a lose-lose situation. He can buy out PLD's contract, but Luc can then fire him for doing so (Luc can also blame Blake for the disastrous trade in the first place). If Luc doesn't buy him out, the perception of his competence as a GM will suffer.

I almost feel bad for Blake. Lombardi once remarked how Blake was pressured by the PA to take a hard line on contract negotiations, which ruined his rep as a player. Now he's in a similar situation where he will either have his legacy damaged again, or he suffers the consequences of a stakeholder he answers to.

But then I just remember that it's best for everyone, including Kings fans, for shit to hit the fan so things to get better sooner rather than later.
