LeBrun: Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, will not sign a contract for next season

I mean, giving assets for the privilege of paying Dubois 9M/yr appears (and, frankly, is) counterproductive.

The reality is, now you know nothing different than you knew before.

Do you see any competitive offers in this thread from any fanbase?

What's the "best" offer so far? The offers are getting worse because he's become a less attractive asset with that reported contract number, even if it is an opening number.

I was only ever interested in bringing him in as an unrestricted free agent. I think it would be stupid for the Canadiens to be surrendering any assets at all for a player who has expressed interest in joining the team and who is just one year away from free agency.

But even still, even as a free agent, I have no interest, at all, if he is anywhere close to $9 million a season. It's a hard pass.

So I don't think it's terribly surprising that you are seeing Canadiens fans whose interest is going down. I want Montreal to pass on Dubios altogether.

This is starting to feel like "The Decision."

I'm becoming more indifferent to the idea of the Avs acquiring him, tbh. Part of me wants them to push away from the table.

A Rags fan offered Chytil, Schneider and a 1st

Colorado had 1st + Newhook

Even a Habs fan offered something like Fla 1st, Beck and Barron

For 40 years, Montreal fans were crying that not a single Quebecois would sign with them unless they were about to retire. Now that you have a hometown boy that desperately wants to sign with them, you'd pass on him?

That inconsistent center would have been 1st scorer for the Habs last season if he didn't miss so many games. Also Brisson will of course say out loud that's he's looking for 9+ but that might be to scare off a bunch of teams.

Montreal doesn't have what it takes to be competitive for another 5+ years unless they hit a few homeruns. And for that to happen, you need to swing as often as possible. They just have to go for it.

If Chytil, Schneider and a 1st was an actual offer, the Jets should jump all over that. I wouldn't offer you anywhere close to that for Dubois. Take that and run, but I highly doubt the Rangers are that stupid.

I think Newhook and the Avalanche's 1st is pretty lousy offer, so if that is among the best, you're making my point for me.

I love when people see someone's initials ask and don't realize that these are called negotiations happens every time someone's first ask is leaked

His value will depend on if he is actually dead set on Montreal or not. I’m guessing he will be open to other teams to increase his leverage on his next deal.

The operative word being "a" here. If you made a separate thread with that offer, I suspect you'd get a much different response from most Ranger fans.

That Colorado offer is weaker than both the Habs and Rangers offers. Significantly so in the latter's case. Newhook is still young but he looked pretty bad this season. So it's a late 1st and a hopeful prospect.

I think you would be hard-pressed to find a single person that doesn't realize what an initial ask is or how negotiations work so your post is a very odd choice for this thread.

Totally agree. However, this is a standard negotiation tactic of starting high - I don't think either him or his agent expect he'll get that. Combined with having 5-6 teams he wants to sign with (which is actually fairly high), it's clear that the goal is either to start a bidding war or to increase the offer from his preferred destination.

Looking at what Severson just signed for, it appears that at least one GM expects the cap to rise significantly in the near future. So $8M for a high-end #2C might soon be a reasonably good deal.

Getting 8 years of Dubois, which are all prime years, is actually very valuable.

Guy asked for best offer out there. Quickly gets 3 from 3 different fan bases.

so now we’re at « suspect » and « most »?
 
Now he's asking for 9M as an RFA, which will price him out of just about everywhere that's not Montreal...where he'll most likely accept a hometown discount of 7.5M x 7 or 7Mx8 sign & trade.

Dubois is not a need but would still be nice to have. That’s why there is not a chance that Dach is included in the deal (if there is one).

I also don’t think Dach would be a deal breaker for Chevy. He probably already know he’s not getting a 6’4 Center who just scored at a 53 points pace at 21, whether it’s from Montreal or somewhere else

he played with Suzuki and caufield for a bit yeah but in the second half once monahan went down he ran his own line and loooked good doing it. He played at a 53 pt pace, was injured in the second half of the season
