LeBrun: Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, will not sign a contract for next season

Ok hear me out final offer no take backs Dvorak+ Harris and ill put a 4th or 5th round pick just because Im a good guy

Or we could, ya know, keep our young players and assets while continuing our rebuild so we can either draft our own players or make additions via free agency without paying supposedly high demands Winnipeg wants.

I won't deny Dubois is a better player right now but Dach is coming off a solid season himself and will be a cost controlled asset for years. Meanwhile, Dubois is rumored to want almost triple what Dach makes right now.

All for a 60-65 point player. A good player, don't get me wrong. Just not what I'd say is "so good" we should give up any sort of haul for.
If the team was actually going to be good id have no problem giving value for dubois but he serves no purpose to us next year so there's no reason to give anything significant to winnipeg

If he’s not that good and you think he won’t get better at barely 22 years old, why is he in all of jets fans trade return proposal lol?
Lol never said he wont get better lol just lol at the untouchable tag lol.

And to your question: maybe because thats all you got?? Think they want Armia, Gallagher, Hoffman, Evans, Dvorak, Pitlick, Pezzeta, Edmundson, Savard, Kovacevic, Wideman, Allen and of course you dont trade Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf, Guhle, Montambeault. Thats 17 names lol

Alright, if he takes 8 x 7.850 the same cap hit as Caufield, 25k less than the Captain Suzuki this is the offer:

Florida's 1st 2023
Montreal's 1st 2024
Harris
Kidney
Dvorak
Armia
Hopfeully our GM is smart enough not to give that much for an inconsistent 2nd line center with constant attitude problems who is looking for 9M when he's really worth 7 at most.

Maybe LA can work something out around both PLD and Helle. Considering the ask is around 2 firsts plus for each I'm thinking 6 firsts and the jets take a couple bad contracts back.

Under the assumption that Dubois wants a sign-and-trade to occur this offseason, I think it’s indicative of his intent of forcing his way to sign long term with the Habs, if only since Montréal is one of the very few teams that can actually pull the trigger at the moment.

And if Dubois/Brisson and HuGo can priorly shake hands on a « Suzuki-like » deal (8 years x 7.785M AAV), then the Habs should indeed seriously consider it.

As for the package for his services, I’d go with a slighter better value than a TDL 2024 rental price / 6.4M OS (1st + Prospect/3rd) :

- 1st round pick : FLA’s 2023 1st or MTL’s 2024 1st (top-10 protected) or CGY’s 2025 1st (top-10 protected) ;

- Prospect(s) : Mesar or 2 amongst: Farrell or Kidney or Kapanen

- NHL contract(s) : Dvorak (4.45M) and/or Armia (3.4M or 1.7M after retention) and/or Ylonen (RFA)

- Palatable adds: Retaining salary on Armia; Gurianov’s rights; 4th round pick

As for competing offers, I think the LA Kings have the assets, but are far likelier to pursue Helleybuyck than Dubois. Nashville and Minnesota are in the same division as Winnipeg and are thus unnatural trade partners.

Remains however Detroit as a serious destination. If that’s the case, I wonder how Larkin’s AAV, compared with Suzuki’s (8.7M vs 7.8M), will impact Dubois’ - and especially HuGo’s - stances in the negotiations.

The habs are in a rebuild.

You want to give a 2024 top 10 pick plus 31st overall pick + Harris… come on man lol
There's no way were getting anything close to a top 10 pick in 2024 with the addition of PLD, we would make the playoffs. Do you remember how hard it was for us last season to lose games even with all of our injuries? We we're a much better team than were we finished last season. Yes give them Harris we don't need him we're absolutely stacked on the LD

Did you notice that we get rid of Dvorak and Armia in the deal as well? Come on man, we have to give to get. In my proposal we're getting PLD at 8 x 7,850 000 we have to be reasonable with our offer.

If either Dvorak or Armia is in the deal, there needs to be additional value coming to the Jets for taking on the extra years of their contracts. You're not getting that cap relief for free. Retention on Armia doesn't move the needle, Gurianov's rights are worth nothing, and a fourth rounder isn't enough. If the NHL contract (or the rights, rather) is Ylönen, then it's OK.

FLA 1st + Farrell + Mesar + Dvorak should be OK. For Armia, I'd charge an extra first to take the deal on (and drop one of the prospects).

That dollar amount isn’t going to get PLD. He’s got himself in a position where he will get closer to 9 per.

The Canadiens are not trading Kirby Dach for Dubois.

That would be colossally stupid for Montreal. Absolutely zero chance.
Yeah... This seems like an obvious case of, if Montreal was willing to do it, the trade would've already occured. A few insiders already hinted at such.

Don’t answer the knock at your door!!!!! It’s the Habs HF Boards fan club and they are going to take away your membership card! They may kick your dog also to teach you a lesson! Follow the mantra that PLD is barley a top 6 C with giant attitude problems that wants 15 million a year to sign long term or suffer the consequences! Only offer trades that are so one sided even a monkey could make them

He's not. It's just Habs fans talking about Dach like he's the 2nd coming of Lindros out of junior.

I agree, Montreal wont/shouldnt be nearly as bad next season. Add Dubois (without a significant roster takeaway) and they can compete for a wild card spot.

Jets dont need/want LHD either. Keep Harris.

Samberg
Scmhidt
Stanley
Capobianco
Heinola

Jets are also not taking 2 cap dumps (Dvorak and Armia).

I dont mind the overall offer though. Counter:

1st round pick : MTL’s 2024 1st (top-5 protected) or CGY’s 2025 1st - cant have conditions forever. Jets will need some certainty in what they are getting.

- Prospect(s) : Farrell + Kidney

- NHL contract(s) : Dvorak (4.45M)

I feel like a never discussed possibility is the Jets just getting a mulligan on Kovacevic from Montreal. He is no world beater, but he proved he is an NHL defenseman with size and top 4 potential. And the org is obviously familiar with him.
He's not. It's just Habs fans talking about Dach like he's the 2nd coming of Lindros out of junior.
Not just that. I feel like swapping a guy that showed long stretches of top 6 potential for a prime age bona-fide top line/2C on contender is a huge win in most cases. To me it's still a win for Montreal that wouldn't be available in normal circumstances.

I get why Habs would say no (leverage alone) but I also feel that may end up aging poorly if things go their way. That's my honest feeling on it. It's good negotiating to get PLD at a value, or not at all. Just in two years, if Dach is a 50 pt guy and PLD is putting up 60-70 and driving play against top lines on another Eastern club (very possible, borderline most likely?) Montreal may regret looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Maybe I'm undervalued Dach? But that's how I see it.

Yeah... This seems like an obvious case of, if Montreal was willing to do it, the trade would've already occured. A few insiders already hinted at such.

Could just be an issue of Montreal feeling they had a lot of leverage at acquiring Dubois.

If Dubois is planning on doing an 8-year sign and trade with up to six teams, this would shift the market potentially. Perhaps Montreal now has to consider offering up Dach since its previous offers were inadequate and other teams may potentially offer a much better package.

Montreal’s decision on whether to offer up Dach and get Dubois or just lose out completely on Dubois.

I don't think Montreal would even be talking about Dubois if it wasn't for the possibility of getting him for pennies on the dollar. So paying a fair price for him, at this stage in our rebuild is essentially out of the question. If another team scoops him up, so be it.

Dach for Dubois is a fair trade for a player that has no preference on where he ends up.

Teams that finished 28th overall are in no hurry to trade youth for impact players. If LA has a similar player to Dach (Vilardi perhaps) that might be a better fit.

Holy shit. How is it the Habs fans offers are getting WORSE?

If his opening ask is $9 million, he has become a lot less attractive.

I was only ever interested in bringing him in as an unrestricted free agent. I think it would be stupid for the Canadiens to be surrendering any assets at all for a player who has expressed interest in joining the team and who is just one year away from free agency.

But even still, even as a free agent, I have no interest, at all, if he is anywhere close to $9 million a season. It's a hard pass.

So I don't think it's terribly surprising that you are seeing Canadiens fans whose interest is going down. I want Montreal to pass on Dubios altogether.

So why even be in the thread? Some team will want him, and it's OK that it's not the Habs. But the low ball offers are ridiculous. Juat move on.

It's like going down to the Porsche dealership and offering a used Tercel as a straight up trade on a new 911

It was one thing when it was believed MTL was his only preference, now we know that's unlikely to be true. Either offer something competitive or move on. Franco-Jesus will play elsewhere
