LeBrun: Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, will not sign a contract for next season

??? What does Laine's pace after 1 game have to do with anything?

I was pointing out Dubois' production last year framed up the same way some posters were taking about Dach
the guy made it clear that he was saying 53 pts but saw 38, I pointed out it was the pace and that he ran his own line., I think Dubois is a good player, just not giving up Dach for him

Dach’s most common linemates were Caufield and Suzuki (which explains his burst in production).

In Chicago, he was a center. In Montreal, he spent more than 50% of his time as a winger, perhaps because of his god-awful career 35% faceoff win percentage.

Perhaps Dach is not meant to be a center.

Whose your top 6 centers, besides Suzuki, if you pass on Dubois?

...the number 5 pick in this year's draft, more than likely...

Maybe we draft one this year with the #5 pick. Maybe in 3-4 years he moves Suzuki down to #2. Maybe Dach continues to develop into a top 6 player, and he becomes a legitimate top 6 center.

We've seen what effect PLD has on a crap winnipeg team, he's not going to change the trajectory of the Habs so they're likely going to pay pennies on the dollar or watch him go to another team.

You sure you don’t want to secure your top 6 C position for the next 8 years?
Sure.

Floridas first
Owen Beck
Calgary pick from the Monahan trade.

Even that I feel is too much.

I’m seeing Dach at 38 points and he’s 22.
And didn’t he play wing beside Suzuki?
He was 21 for the majority of the season. He played with Suzuki for about 1/3 of his games.

I guess that also makes Dubois a 50 points player since he failed to get 50 or more for half his playing seasons

Dubois should hold up till July 1. Like refuse the trades coming to him till then. And then have the Habs offer sheet him for a year at 9 million. Whether the Jets match or not, it doesn't matter, the Jets won't be able to trade him. So all Dubois has to do is wait one year to sign with Montreal. And if the Jets don't match, there could be a backdoor arrangement that if he re-sign with the Habs, they would give him 8 million/per for 8 years.

Doesn’t this idea hit a snag because it entitles WPG to a Montreal 1st round pick (et al)?

Winnipeg wouldn’t need a back door arrangement. That pick would be potentially valuable.

I hope this happens, that would give the Jets 2 first round picks and some 2nds

As has been stated several times before: the offer sheet process benefits nobody, if the desired outcome is that Dubois signs with the Habs in 2024. This is true regardless of the compensation.

it hits a snag because he can't refuse a trade, he can refuse to sign long term but it doesn't stop the jets from trading him as a rental
You can't trade a player whose offer sheet you have matched in 12 months.

1. Dubois is an RFA. Jets can trade him to whoever they want without his permission.

2. If Montreal offered him a 1-year, $9M contract, they would owe the Jets 2 firsts, 1 2nd and 1 3rd. Jets take that compensation and run.

Thanks for that well thought out post rofl.

PS: Damn, you have over 37K posts and you came up with this? DUDE!!

where did I ever say that pld was getting traded after signing an offer sheet, he will get traded by the jets before one is even possible...

If Dach is really offered in real life, I’d jump on it in a half second. Much more than I think they’ll get.

How come Dubois is a 60 point player, but Dach is a 54 point “pace” player?

Hopefully because one is definitely not on your roster.

I didnt say anything about Dach. Dubois is a 60 point player because that is what he consistently produces every year. Anything over 6.5 is an overpay but I guess a team could justify giving him 7 if he was a great character-team guy. He is not

Montreal doesn't even have their own 2nd for an offersheet that high.

Even a lower offersheet is a mistake imo as Dubois isn't signing anything under the 2024 unprotected 1st compensation.

Not to mention we should have learned our lesson with Aho/Kotkaniemi.

It's not a viable plan, or threat.

I don’t know why you’re so hyper focused on Dach. You aren’t getting him in a trade for an expiring contract so why bother yourself with his production?

The post you referred to stated "whether the Jets match or not, it doesn't matter, the Jets won't be able to trade him", which is true, and you didn't say when he was going to be traded. Should probably be more specific.
