LeBrun: Dubois wants out of Winnipeg, will not sign a contract for next season

If we want Dubois, we’ll get him while keeping Dach. It’s as simple as that.
How? He’s likely traded to a club this summer who then signs him long term. Habs could get him now and have him for sure. Suzuki, PLD is a very good 1-2 centre duo. Both big guys who are really good at playing a 200 foot game from the centre position. Habs, imo, become a very good team with those two guys as their top two centres.

I know it’s not happening. I doubt the Jets would go for that. They will want a proven centre who is already signed to a longer term contract for PLD.
Then it’s settled. Dach isn’t moving.
Young player entering his 5th year with a 38 pts max output now untouchable… But paces like a great standardbred.
absolutely he’s untouchable.

teams trading for him will also be talking contract I don't think they care about the montreal rumors if he is signing an 8 year deal with him, absolutely ridiculous to assume some of these teams would back out of an 8 year deal because they will be worried he is going to change his mind a couple years after signing an 8 year deal

No. If they're trading for him, they're going to be signing him to that long-term contract. But it's something that can weigh on how much they're willing to pay in acquisition cost because as we've seen with plenty of players in the past...having a contract doesn't guarantee doesn't mean a player is going to want to stay there. And you do not want a pouting Dubois on your team for 8 years.

If the Jets don’t like our offer, then so be it. Best of luck to Dubois. But we’re looking to add to our young talent, not swap. Especially now cost controlled players for expensive ones. We’ll either have both Dach and Dubois or just Dach. Either scenario is fine. Dubois isn’t an elite player that we’ll lose sleep over.

lol, I love it when fans come up with ridiculous scenarios to try to say that teams won't get full value for a player...

Not too sure Suzuki, Dach as a club’s top two centres is a winning formula. Imo Suzuki, PLD is a winning 1,2 centre combination. If the Jets want more than Dach, which of course they would, the Habs should pay the price.
Imagine Suzuki-PLD. That’s so good.

Dach might be a centre. PLD is a centre. Habs would be making a huge mistake if they had a chance right now to trade Dach for PLD and didn’t do it. Unless, of course the plan is to stay at the bottom and continue to draft top five. Which is not a bad idea, considering they do need a lot more elite talent.
Just tell me why Habs will do such a lateral move? It just doesn't make any sense.

He should ask to be traded to a contender for a cup run. Then go to free agency and sign with the team he wants.

That would've been logical, and probaby the preferred option for the Jets as it gives them more suitors, but Dubois wants to sign a long term deal (by all indications).

No he wants an 8 year deal to a location he has approved …..
Alright, if he takes 8 x 7.850 the same cap hit as Caufield, 25k less than the Captain Suzuki this is the offer:

Florida's 1st 2023
Montreal's 1st 2024
Harris
Kidney
Dvorak
Armia

Lateral move? Dach ++ for PLD (imo) isn’t a lateral move. That’s a move that gives the Habs a great one, two punch down the middle.

Montreal’s unprotected first would be big value. I doubt you’d want to offer that.

Yes unprotected. I think we could make the playoffs with the addition of PLD.

I'd like to add Keller with the 2023 #5 pick if possible.

Or we could, ya know, keep our young players and assets while continuing our rebuild so we can either draft our own players or make additions via free agency without paying supposedly high demands Winnipeg wants.

I won't deny Dubois is a better player right now but Dach is coming off a solid season himself and will be a cost controlled asset for years. Meanwhile, Dubois is rumored to want almost triple what Dach makes right now.

All for a 60-65 point player. A good player, don't get me wrong. Just not what I'd say is "so good" we should give up any sort of haul for.

I like how you expect to get a better deal from another rebuilding team, like, it make sense for them point of view at getting older, right?

Montréal is on the cusp of getting out of their rebuild, and that's why we can afford to trade thoses pieces
Be serious, the rebuild just started they’re no where near in a position to give picks and prospects.

The habs are in a rebuild.

You want to give a 2024 top 10 pick plus 31st overall pick + Harris… come on man lol

Ah yeah, right. Dach’s not good enough and won’t develop even more, will never get out of bottom 5 with him… is that why you’re trying to push for him in your trade return suggestion?

As always on this site, Winnipeg players are devalued because people just don’t watch The Jets play very often. Or never by some of the comments about Dubois.

There is going to be a lot of teams interested in him. Probably in the Atlantic btw. To pair him up with Suzuki, Montreal’s Top 6 would be set at C for the foreseeable future. Just as Detroit’s would be with Larkin.

This strange opinion that Montreal can wait for him to be a UFA, or offer less because he’s supposedly said he will only sign in Montreal, is ridiculous. I guarantee a five minute conversation with Yzerman, he’d sign in Detroit.

That’s the team to really watch out for here btw. They have the ammunition to get a deal done, and plenty of cap space. He’s also only just turning 25.

Whatever team makes this trade, has themselves a Top 6 C for the next 7 years, with little concern he won’t be at the top of his game throughout the contract.

If he’s not that good and you think he won’t get better at barely 22 years old, why is he in all of jets fans trade return proposal lol?
