MTL could have been hesitant to give up Dach if they thought (like Habs posters here) that PLD was walking himself to UFA and then landing on their doorstep for nothing

Now that it's known that other teams are involved, they are going to have to ask themselves if they really want a 6'4 power centre who can score AND who just happens to be francophone and can be the face of the franchise. If so, they may have to ammend the offer.

They won't be amending the offer to include Dach.

Isn’t that how many Mtl fans are towards schief? Yes Schief wasn’t 17 but it was one incident years ago.

Jets are better off targeting other teams who I'm sure would be happy to trade away better young players than Kirby Dach for one year of PLD.

Thats not the way trades go down. The team with the player demanding a trade out rarely gets a core piece in return. Its usually a fair bit of quantity.

Dach would be a very good centre for us but definitely not a core piece.

If they are sitting around waiting for someone to pay them Dach level value, every team interested will simply just wait them out. This is a “sign and trade” scenario. Not a long term controlled asset. Just because a team may get an extension doesn’t mean they’ll pay the Jets like they have full control of the situation.

Which teams are offering equivalent/better young players to Dach? Will be interesting to see. Maybe Rangers get desperate and give up Lafreniere/Kakko/Chytil. They actually have the core to afford that cost but on the flip side, don't have the capspace to fit another 8+M player.

PLD is a year out from UFA at age 26. He has to play to accrue that 7th year to hit UFA status in 2024. Otherwise, he delays his UFA until 2025 until he turns 27. 4 years of accrued seasons and turn 27 by July 1 or 7 accrued seasons are the conditions for UFA.

So, at worst, he signs his QO just before the deadline to sign it.
