Once again, it's not solely based on pts. There are many factors and what players are "worth" is very subjective in a growing cap to come.

Fair value to me in a growing cap is $8M - $8.5M range. If he takes under $8M for 8 years, he left a little on the table. If he demands $9M+, that is overpayment and risky.

Any GM offering Josh Anderson $8-8.5/year should be subject to a cognitive test.

You may not think hes overpaid @ $5.5million, but everyone else does except Habs fans. Ever notice how fans of other teams never have anything good to say about his contract. Its not some anti-hats bias either, lots of people were giving them props on the Caufield deal.

If we take cap, it would most likely be Hoffman

I doubt it. But if Every jet fan says yes, then maybe the proposals that don't make sense to a team who plans on retooling and not rebuilding stop?

Jets aren't rebuilding. Only a few hfboards.com Jets posters are under that delusion. These proposed deals involving Montreal Does nothing.

Why do ppl think it's Montreal or nothing? U got ppl legit ppl talking LA and Nashville now also.

Considering we might end up retaining on one or both of Scheifele or Hellebuyck, if we take cap back it would most likely be Hoffmans 1yr.
I am ok with that if it all comes to this detail, I don't think HuGo will walk away for this.

Barron, 31st, Kidney and Hoffman for Dubois signed 8x8.5
Deal !
Pretty sure most habs fan would be ok with this...

Ever notice how it's been reported multiple times teams keep calling trying to acquire him and Habs ask for a lot and say we dont want to trade him?

It's almost like GM's value power forwards a lot even if they don't produce as many points as similarly paid players. Because there is more to hockey than just points.

I was clearly talking about Dubois. Leave Anderson out of it. He's our property and our management is not shopping him. Devaluing Anderson should mean nothing to the Jets. Stay out of it. He's not going to be in the Dubois trade.

Also, Dubois's next contract also should mean little to the Jets. You're not the one signing him.

He'll be signed to an 8 year extension this summer with his new team so that won't be an option. You'll be looking at 2032, but he may still have some gas left in the tank at 33 years old

We are probably fine with that. It's going to be one of Dvorak, Hoffman, Armia, or Eddy. Personally, I take back Eddy who you could flip at the deadline for picks. If he has a healthy season, he will regain his previous value.

If you want Hoffman's one year deal vs Dvorak's 2, I think you are making Habs fans happy. Are you sure about that? Most of us would be happy to retain Dvorak and unload Hoffman. Not trying to trick you, just pointing out the obvious

Anderson is overpaid at $5.5 million, but he’s also a player that’s still really effective at what he does and you don’t mind keeping at that tag as well. If a trade facilitates, then great. If not we’re just as happy to keep him around for the next 3-4 years. It’s really a non issue. Gallagher is the only contract on the team that’s a worry because of the term still left on it. And the Caufield contract deserves credit. It was also signed by a different management team that signed some of the boat anchors we currently have on the team.

I wonder if the jets and pld could come to terms on a one year deal with the promise of moving him at or before tdl. Then retention could be involved which would increase his trade value. He could always sign as a ufa in one of his "6 preferred" cities in the summer of 24.

I'm not sure if the whole "sign and trade" thing is working out how both parties imagined.

what are you basing this on?

You realize beat writers usually get leaks from the teams they cover? Its in the Habs best interest to leak stories of teams calling about him, even if they make that up.

Jets could probably expand their trade partners and possible return by going with the rental option.

Or no?
we can expand the teams but doubt we would get more of a return the best return we can will will most likely come from him extending long term, still failing to see what you are basing the "I'm not sure if the whole "sign and trade" thing is working out how both parties imagined." on

You do realise that Edmundson plays the position at which we 1) already have four better NHLers, and 2) also have two of our best prospects in Heinola and Chisholm, both of which need ice time very soon?

You could even pretend that you knew what the Jets need. A hint: it is none of your cap dumps, that's for sure.

I'm just judging on the proposals here. But we'll see I guess.

Rebuilding is a very subjective word depending who you ask and what it means.

Are the Jets trading away all its valuable players to tank as hard as they can like the Habs did? No

Are they trading away some expiring contracts to get value back from these valuable players? Yes

Do the Jets want prospects/picks back as they returns only? No according to all the reports, they actually want useful roster/win now pieces back. This fact limits what the Habs can offer as far as win now pieces, they traded all their vets who have any significant value.

I'm not convinced the Jets would have a huge problem with it, but honestly, both sides are probably terrified of an ill-timed injury mid-season. It's also possible that the Jets would have a preference for a sign-and-trade themselves (in the hopes that another team would pay a premium asset for him now as opposed to a pure rental return), but I don't think those pieces are moved either way. I'd certainly be OK with either option, as long as the return is acceptable.

However, getting to terms with stuff is all on PLD. He's trying to get all kinds of leverage ahead of time, and if that's not working out for him, tough shit. Obviously, he has the right to try stuff, but announcing that he's not coming back next year was a totally bone-headed decision from the very start. Return-free risk at its finest: piss off the entire organisation by limiting their trade leverage, while risking having to... yep, go back to that organisation for another year, with tens of millions of your future earnings on the line. So, so dumb.

Not many are talking about Dubois staying in Winnipeg but there might be a small % that he does and he's traded at the 24 deadline.

However, I did read somewhere last week that Chevy will not even offer arbitration on Dubois. So this tells me he does have several offers on the table and he's evaluating them. The tricky part is if Dubois don't want to sign for the AAV from team who is offering Chevy the best value. Then it might spin in circles.

Hard to know what is happening behind the scenes but I'm sure there is a lot of back and forth conversations.
