You realize beat writers usually get leaks from the teams they cover? Its in the Habs best interest to leak stories of teams calling about him, even if they make that up.

Got it, so national media is all doing the bidding of the Habs. And they are artificially trying to raise the trade value of a player they've had at events with the team in the offseason over the past couple years. Who fits the profile of how they want to play and whose family is from the area and has an uncle through marriage that was a team legend.

Or maybe just maybe, they aren't actively trying to trade him and he's only available for overpayment as it was reported.

If I had to rank the three best days of my life, it would be:

1) Kids being born tied for first
2) Wedding day
3) PLD being traded so I never have to read about his value again

Imagine how you would feel today if you took the Caufield, 1st, + offer we made for Laine back a few years ago? Remember when it was called spare parts? "Habs overrate our prospects"

I know you guys like Chevy but he deserves heat for taking that risks of trading Laine/Rost thinking Dubois will stay.

I hope that it is a Habs/Jets trade and whatever we give you, ends up turning into good assets. We will see how it plays out. I think Dubois does get traded before draft or on draft day.

Would suck to lose a RD but i wouldnt mind moving Barron for Dubois
Barron could be a piece in a PLD trade but he wouldn't be the featured piece.

One of the problems with a Habs trade is that they don't have anyone who makes for an attractive centerpiece for a trade. All they have to offer a draft pick they won't move, a few B and C level prospects and a bunch of cap dumps. Not only does this go against the widly reported info that the Jets are looking for established NHLers, there isn't much value there for futures either.

The other issue I see is that PLD himself is starting to feel like the Canadians organization doesn't really value him, so he's shifting to markets where the organization does value him.

Let me guess, the Kings are easily going to offer pieces like Clarke, Byfield, and Vilardi?

Do you know what the problem is? Thinking Dubois with his 1 RFA year left will return more than what Horvat and Trouba returned. Sign/trade increases his value by 5x or 10x right? NOPE. It might increase it by 1.5 but it's mostly circumstantial.

Kings won't be trading Clarke or Byfield any more than the Habs trading Dach or Guhle. This is not a Habs problem. It's a Jets problem. Some Jets fans think they can ridicule Habs fans but then they come along and think Dubois is going to return a sure shot grade A prospect and a 1st.. Seems to me that the Jets fan base has gullible fans just like the Habs do.

Even if the Jets don’t get either/neither of Byfield or Clarke in a trade (not expecting to) the potential return from LA is still better than the (lack of) return Montreal would offer and you can’t argue that even after 5-6 threads :thumbu:

I can and will argue it. What do you think the actual Kings offer is? List it.

I heard the "Habs overrate our prosects" narrative a few times. I guess popular bandwagons on the internet is true to the gullible ones. Habs have done well in drafting over the last 3 or 4 drafts. If you can't see that, all you are spitting out is Habs hate.

Better than any of Josh Anderson, Christian Dvorak, Joel Armia, Owen Beck, Filip Mesar or any other low pick/non-first round pick trash you’ve been offering for the past few months in these threads now :sarcasm:

Any of Iafallo, Arvidsson, Kaliyev, JAD, Lizotte, Turcotte, Spence possibly more options could be in play from LA to form a valuable trade package suiting to attain PLD and meet Winnipegs demands in return. That’s before any picks or w/e that could be added that LA is more willing to part with than Montreal is willing or able to part with.

TLDR: Your offers are not good and neither is your argument. Hasn’t been for 5-6 threads now. The LA offer WILL be better than any of yours or the Habs offers. That’s that :thumbu:

Well we probably would have had a shot at Bedard if we made that deal

I think Barron + Beck/Kidney + Florida 1st is fair for Dubois some fans might want more but Winnipeg will never get full value for someone who asked out every team hes been part off

I think it's fair too. So do many Jets fans.

But they reportedly (the actual Jets, not the fans on here that have no effect on reality) want younger roster player(s) or players with term because they want to convince Connor, Morrissey, Ehlers, etc that they're not doing a scorched earth rebuild.

So while lots of us would like a proper (but relatively quick) rebuild and value Barron, the extra 1st, and Beck/Kidney, the Jets are likely aiming for guys further along in development (Barron seems ready but our D is basically set already, and that's another issue we don't need to get in to ).

LA's young guys that might be available in a trade are further along. And judging that some of them were drafted as C's, if they acquire PLD it stands to reason one would be available. Montreal has a more interesting futures package with the 1st rounder this year.

I've said multi times he might still land with the Habs, albeit the price is likely higher now then it was before. I still think is the favorite place for him to land based on LA's reported comments of "we will make this happen" to Chevy. If the Habs GM takes the approach of some Habs posters of Dvorak, 2nd rd pick and C level prospect, it won't happen with the Habs b/c thats borderline not even a positive value offer. I give you credit here, at least your trying to offer positive value pieces and make something work. Not sure if the Jets will have interest in those pieces bc they are all prospects and magic beans when its reported they want win now pieces. Perhaps the Jets would consider near NHL ready type of prospects as win now or close to it. not sure.

Of course he will return more than Horvat. Not only is he younger than Horvat he's also much better than Horvat. In the case of Trouba the Rangers gave up a first round pick and a 22 year old who was their #1 D-man the previous year, and that's with only a single market in play.

What you seem to think is that PLD will return something similar to Andrew Copp as a rental, which obviously ridiculous.

Kings won't be trading Clarke or Byfield any more than the Habs trading Dach or Guhle. This is not a Habs problem. It's a Jets problem.

I don't want Dach, IMO he's a bust but I don't discount the possibility the Jets feel the same way. Guhle struggled even more last year (42.0 xGF%) than Pionk did (44.7 xGF%) before he was included in the Trouba trade. He is a bit younger though so, value wise he's probably in the same range Pionk was at the time of the Trouba trade.

Jets fans are ridiculing Habs fans because they clearly have no clue about the player they are discussing. We've had the deal with more than one who don't even know what position PLD plays, and others who think someone like Horvat is actually a compatible. (Hint, at best Horvat is comparable offensively, but when you look at their ability to drive play I'd even argue that isn't true. Other than that Horvat is a soft with a weak defensive game while PLD is is one of the leagues best agitators, plays a physical game and has a strong 200 foot game.)

I think that would be a mistake if those rumours are true Winnipeg should sell and restart from scratch that core was nice on paper but didn’t accomplish nothing Jets have the chance to trade some nice pieces that could return 1st round picks and good prospects

LA definitely has some better assets to trade for Dubois and i do think he would extend with them i dont think they would trade Byfield or Clarke but Vilardi could be an option he had a good season still young but with hes back problems he could be a risk that being said im sure Chevy takes him before Beck and Barron

Habs should offer Caufield. Only hit 43 points in a season. Cap hits would be about the same as PLD new contract. Caufield is small & will probably miss considerable time with injures. Makes the team much better.

Then turn around & get a deal on someone like DeBrincat to fill the hole.

Beck and Mesar are still junior players bud with no guarantee they pan out what so ever. Those other guys on the list that you conveniently left a major detail off of? They’re already nhl/pro players, which if you bothered to pay attention at all is what Winnipeg is asking for. Whether they’re good or not is debatable but that’s for a different discussion.

Reading is hard :sarcasm:

Really feels like LA is in the driver's seat now, which could either be a ploy by the Jets/Brisson to turn up the pressure on Montreal, or actually be true.

I think it's better for both Montreal and Winnipeg that he goes to LA. Better return for Winnipeg than Montreal is apparently willing to offer, and Montreal can carry on with future All-Star Kirby Dach and Suzuki and Caufield and whoever they get at #5.
If overpriced yes i agree that the Habs should move on.

If the Jets are not interested in futures then i believe it takes the Habs out of it which i'm fine with.

Based on reports, the Jets want win now pieces and no interest in rebuilding (thats defined differently from different people), but fair to assume that means the majority of the return will be win now pieces and smaller pieces being futures. Habs have some decent futures but really no decent or good win now pieces which is the problem with any competitive offer compared to a LA as an example. By saying that, no one is slagging on the Habs, bc we all know the Habs intentionally tanked hard by trading away all their good vets

Well we probably would have had a shot at Bedard if we made that deal
If you had caufield and guhle instead of pld? I mean Winnipeg is weird in that the sum of the team is always less than the total of the parts so getting better on paper could possibly make them worse.

I think the jets are better off taking that byfield/Clarke/1st package from la
