This will finally put all the hot takes to rest. All the nonsense journalism that speculated Hunter would be chosen.

Congratulations to Mr. Kyle Dubas! Hope he was a sponge during the last three years, and look forward to seeing him evolve as the GM. Shanahan hasn't deviated from the plan. He had Dubas in his mind from many years ago, and he is now ready to take centre stage. Thank you Shanahan for staying true to your word, it's a breath of fresh air!

Now it's time to strap on those big boy boots and have Dubas kill it at his first draft as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Dubas was the same guy that though Marincin could be a top 4 defenseman. So... cast your stones carefully

Marincin has proven to be an effective NHL defenseman. Guy has just been unfairly hated on because of turnovers. Sound like any other defenseman on the Leafs?

Polak wouldn't even be an effective AHL defenseman.

While obviously Shanahan is still likely a major player in the decision making process, Dubas is no more figurehead than ally was in the same position. Dubas will have opportunity to shape the direction of the Leafs (and likely based on how close the two are, it’s the same vision as Shanny’s)

Exactly.

!@#$

Well, if that isn't a big slap in the face to Hunter, dunno what is.

Happy trails, Mark...

How is it a slap?
Dubas was hired first
Dubas was dubbed the heir apparent
Dubas has been given more responsibilities than hunter

Expected choice. Not let's see what happens with Hunter. My guess is that he'll stay around, at least until he gets a better offer.

Have a quote on that?
There are going to be lots of times in life when you think player A can be this. It does not only pertain to the Leafs and our GMs. There is also onus on the player to prove what he can be. I have no problem taking gambles on players that could pan out. The cost was not a 1st or a solid young prospect. We dealt Brad Ross to the Oilers in return. Thinking outside the box is not a bad thing. Giving up Forsberg for Erat is.

Speed and skill speed and skill SPEED AND SKILL!

Let’s go Dubas! Get rid of these gud pro bums on the team.
did you watch last nights game 7? Speed and skill are definitely needed, but so is grit and grind.

This shouldn't be a shock to anyone. And furthers the notion that some media outlets create stories for purposes of creating chaos in Leaf Land.

we'll make a bet

if Hunters here by the start of the season i won't post for 3 months , if he leaves you do the self imposed ban

deal ?

Why not offer to donate money to a charity as a bet than self-ban each other. We are all fans after all.

No, and I'm not saying it has. I'm saying the final decision maker has changed.
and my point was that before he was hired i kept hearing it was mgmt by committee

also the final decision maker may or may not have changed , that person may have been and may still be Shanny

If hunter doesn’t get a gm job somewhere else you think he will still leave? Why would he leave just because Dubas got hired. He would need to leave to a gm job to not look like a sulking baby to be honest.

no GM in the league handles the drafting
no GM in the league choose lineups for the games

as for the Shanny part that's hilariously bad, you can believe whatever you want

when the Leafs win a cup I expect people to give most of the credit to Lou aswell.

fact is this is a great hire based on everything we've heard, and he will be doing the GM's job just like the other 30 GM's in the league...

Do you believe Dubas could fire the coach Babcock just like other GMs in the league, or fire scouts like Hunter?

Do you think Dubas could trade anyone off the roster like say Matthews like other GMs?

Do you think its Dubas alone that will negotiate and decide Matthews, Marner next contracts etc like most GMs would?

Do you think Dubas could buyout Zaitsev or Marleau etc without approval?

This is what I'm getting at, and unlike when Leafs hired greenhorn JFJ last time and he could sign, trade and run the show and make mistakes without having to answer to anyone but ownership, this time the new GM in training Dubas has lots of restrictions on his job description that a normal GM wouldn't have, and is well insulted with others around him that will be calling their own shots.

The Marlies are built around speed skill and grit
The series against the crunch was awesome to watch.
If Kyle manages to replicate that in the NHL I think everyone will be happy. Well maybe there will still be a couple posters unable to eat crow but the rest will be happy

April 20, 2016:

Maple Leafs' Kyle Dubas says he's not ready for GM job - Sportsnet.ca

“Very bluntly put, I don’t believe I’m ready to be an NHL general manager,” Dubas told reporters (watch above). “I believe I have a lot to learn, and I believe Toronto is the best place for me to learn that.”

“I still have a lot to learn and a long way to go and continue to grow and develop as a manager in hockey,” he said. “There’s no better place to learn than here with the Leafs.”

Two years.. doesn't inspire confidence.
