I love seeing Habs fan with the fake "Oiler fan" profile pic

What a laughable opinion. If you moved Draisaitl out of Edmonton into a quality top 6 with good players like Kucherov/Matthews/Mackinnon etc get to enjoy, he's going to go from being on a 125 point pace to a 80 point pace? Yeah okay.

If you actually tried watching him you'd know he contributes as much to McDavid's success as McDavid does to his.

Maybe take a deep breath first…

It’s a message board, people have opinions. My opinion is that Drai is an elite player who produces generational talent type numbers because he is playing with arguably the best hockey player over the past 30 years.

You disagree and that’s fine.

No need to have an aneurysm over it.

Calling your bs “oiler fan” profile out isn’t “having an aneurysm”

That's okay. It's an overpay. Keep him.

Just so you know, that's not an overpay. That offer does not land you Leon Draisaitl who is around 3rd in "best contracts in the NHL" (MacKinnon at 6M and Pastrnak at 6.6M). It would have to be a "HOLY f***, THERE IS NO WAY ON EARTH I'M GIVING YOU THAT!" package for Draisaitl unless Leon pulls a Patty Roy and refuses to play for Edmonton anymore. If that were to happen, that's when a deal like this becomes a realistic price.

That's why I never propose deals like this. People overvalue the truly elite players. They never go for as much as fans expect, and people have a hard time evaluating quantity for quality deals.

It's not that people overvalue them. It's that the truly elite guys are essentially priceless. Unless something happens where they force their way out (Roy, Pronger, Martin St. Louis), have some kind of injury that calls into question their future value that they then push through in recovery (Gretzky to NYR, Gretzky to STL), or they have an ultra cheapskate owner who just wants the $15 million that came with it (Gretzky to LA)... guys like this don't get traded.

They never go for as much as fans expect because you don't trade one of these guys unless you have a figurative or literal gun to your head. It took Roy bitching directly to the owner after being pulled, Pronger... complaining, don't really remember what he did in Edmonton, but it was something, and Martin St. Louis being super salty with Yzerman. Hell, Gretzky wasn't traded. He was sold. LA doesn't land that trade in current day, because Peter Pocklington couldn't sack away 5x a player's salary in cold hard cash nowadays.

Whenever someone gives you an offer where they're asking you for 5 blue-chip pieces AND other stuff... just assume they don't want to trade the guy and he's not available.

There is no deal that makes sense when it comes to trading Leon Draisaitl. Unless it's Nathan Mackinno or Barkov.

Yes. The only type of trade that could potentially make any sesne is something like this.

If you can get Barkov to sign cheap and they can get Leon to sign cheap (relatively... both will be double digits annually), I could see this. MacKinnon is going to be expensive as f***, because the PA isn't going to let him take another discount... and neither will his agent.

Reading a sens fan comment saying 'the difference between Drai and Tkachuk isn't big enough' is by far one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

Lmaooooo, imagine thinking Tkachuk + Norris + a top 5/10 pick will get you a legitimate top 3 player in the world like Draisaitl. Holy, you sen fans are a special bunch.

Norris and Tkachuk aren't as good as Yamamoto and Puljujarvi, you're right.

edit: your organization might even botch a free top-5/10 pick as well so I can see why you are all hesitant on receiving picks.

There's literally no correlation with your comment. When did Yamamoto and Puljujarvi ever get involved in this god awful trade for Draisaitl? Horrible deflection at best :huh::huh:

You're underrating our young players so I made a comment in jest comparing them to your top picks...

Its not about your players being underrated. Its about your proposal being utter dog water for a player that's as elite in Draisaitl. Good lord, I would think you'd grasp that concept after the previous pages on this thread.

Well said.

The counters containing ridiculous offers that cause people to go "lol he isn't worth that" has nothing to do with the actual values in a vacuum, and everything to do with the only way a team trades said player is for a ridiculous overpay, because there's no other reason to trade him even if the values might seem close.

We're also not rebuilding, don't want to, and have no intention to anytime soon, so eff picks.
