As already mentionned (so just need to read), there was a lot more than just points (BT overall impact, Norris 2-way play, possible lottery pick in a great draft)

So what was Draisaitl pace without McDavid? (don't worry I know he's great in his own right)

It's more about what these players will produce in the future. Do you think Draisaitl is a 130 pts player going forward and without McDavid?

Remember we're discussing value here, not what Edmonton should do or not

He was essentially 2 ppg when McDavid was injured.
Check mate kid

Kid?

I have been warned about Oilers fans but this is hilarious
Yet only Ottawa fans think Brady + Norris + 1st is fair/over value for Drai?
Watch some non Sens game, kid

And I like how you ignored the 2ppg without Mcdavid lmfao. Clearly got schooled and shows you don't watch hockey

There's no pissing match here outside of your own head lol

The fact that you get so freaking emotional over what should be a simple rational discussion and then proceed to call me "kid" TWICE is mesmerizing.

And I didn't ignore anything, I just quit the discussion, you're way too mature for me

Even funnier is the fact that I said "don't worry I know he's great in his own right", but you still came back with that ultra emo answer.

Draisaitl blows Norris away 1 way 2 way anyway. Get real.

While I would take this deal in a heartbeat, and recognize that there is no realistic offer which would land Drai, citing Heatley as our most talented player is pretty funny. EK at his peak was closer to McDavid than he was to Heatley.
You're totally right.... I don't know how I didn't think of that. :help::help:

I mean, where do you predict they finish in the Atlantic?

Honestly hard to say. Huge questions in goal. The defense is still quite raw outside of Chabot and Zub.

The forwards are promising, but outside of brown they're mostly sophomores and slumps happen all the time.

Then Tkachuk might not be there for a while.

Id wager somewhere in the bottom half of the division. If all goes right they could challenge for the playoffs. But it could all go south again too.

Let's just put it this way Oilers fans. You guys will make the Playoffs, I'm sure of that.
BUT. What happens when you lose in the 1st round? 2nd round? WCF?
This year, next year. Are you going to rinse and repeat with McDrai? I would bet no is the answer to that question.
You're going to flip the lesser (Drai) to DIVERSIFY. That's the premise of this proposal, nothing else.

Tkachuk and Norris probably outscore Draisaitl when you combine them in their peak, but likely not by much. That’s also not how things work. You don’t trade a 90pt player for three 35pt players and call it a win.
It’s basically two ~60pt players for a 100+pt player + cap space.

This is a landslide win for Ottawa. Even with the 1st

Holland will be in the hot seat. Tippett gets fired.

We still get to watch McDrai. Life goes on.

Ottawa will be ill-advised to make any superstar move now. We have young talent flooding through the gates and we need a couple to become established, to raise their own individual value, before we can make big moves.

Ottawa might be posed to finish bottom 5 in the league--it seems like. Norris and Pinto might also explode with big years. That's when Ottawa should dangle any combination of

Chabot/Sanderson/top 5 2022/Norris/Pinto/Greig/Jarventie

In all honesty, a top 5 pick in 2022 might be a star in their own right, on ELC contract too.

You’d have to give up a Lindros type of package to get Drai in a trade.

For reference you’d be looking at something to the tune of:
26yr old Top 4 D (Steve Duchesne)
27yr old #1 goalie (Ron Hextall)
24yr old Top 4 D (Kerry Huffman)
18yr old Top C prospect picked 6OA (Peter Forsberg)
19yr old Top C Prospect picked 4OA (Mike Ricci)
19yr old Top W Prospect picked 25OA (Chris Simon)
2 1st round picks
15M cash

Translating for today’s players in Ottawa, think something like:
Chabot
Mete
Murray / Top G prospect
Norris
Stuetzle
Formenton
2 x 1st unprotected
+ asset/retention roughly equal to 15M cash

Yeah, that type of ouch is what it takes to get a young, affordable, elite center who is arguably the second best player in the league.

↑ That's not how markets work. Something that happened 30 years ago is not going to determine today's market

Not guaranteed, never assumed they would.

This is a landslide win for Ottawa. Even with the 1st

And... I never argued the opposite. I also didn't make this thread, this isn't my proposal.

I initially replied to a guy who said "Tkachuk, Chabot, Sanderson, and your 1st to get the discussion going"

I said "Tkachuk, Chabot, Sanderson + 1st doesn't get the discussion going. It closes it right away
Oilers don't have to trade Draisaitl and it's ok if they are asking a king's ransom but no team should pay anything like that
."

Then the poster replied that Draisaitl outscored both Tkachuk and Norris combined so then I have TRIED to explain that both Tkachuk and Norris haven't peaked offensively, since it's a trade proposal and we're comparing a player's production in his prime vs two guys that were 21 y/o. I have also TRIED to say that there would be more than production with Tkachuk overall impact and that possible lottery pick.

The problem is people read something and get emo right away without having any idea of the context. You'd have to go back to my initial post and read it all over again to realize that I have never diminished what Draisaitl is capable of or that this deal would be fair or that Edmonton should do it. The only thing I have tried to say are the 2 points in the paragraph above. Internet/HF in a vaccum and this is hilarious

I don't think the Sens have anything that could get them Draisaitl without absolutely dismantling the entire team and prospect system.

Sens fans have to get it through their heads that people around the league do not value 53 point pace for three straight seasons Brady Tkachuk like he's Jarome Iginla and Josh Norris like he's Ryan O'Reilly.

Well this wasn’t thought through very well.
