This scenario is probably unlikely but I want to get a sense of how this board would feel about Krebs vs Cozens. Does Krebs have high end C upside? Is Cozens a W or C?

We trade for pick 14...who do we take:
Krebs
Cozens
Newhook (dark horse pick I suppose)

I trade for pick 15 as well and take Krebs and Cozens.

No, his performance is that of a first line wing. Why would I want to get rid of that? No, I believe that there is a good chance he gets moved due to the fact that usually whereas there's smoke, there's fire. Rangers want to be aggressive at the draft and move up. To a team that needs to win now or needs to at least make the playoffs now, Kreider is the Rangers best piece to move. That, mingled with his contract status, is the reasoning.

I also believe that Gorton is not going to simply overpay and hand him away. If there is no deal to be made and Kreider's contract wants fits into the box that Gorton has in his head, then Kreider will be extended and brought back.

He has certainly played first-line wing on the Rangers, but I guess I don't consider a guy whose top season is 53 points a legit first-liner. If he's traded, management is telling him and us that they do not consider him to be a first-liner on their team. Otherwise, they would be happy to pay him 1st-line money in his prime.

He is in this situation because he hasn't placed himself in a position where he is considered part of what the organization deems a necessary part of the team's core.

I'm not saying he's not a good NHL player. He definitely is. It's just that for 5 years we've been hearing things like he's young or big players take longer to bloom, etc,. His greatest attribute is that someone out there may view him as he's been viewed here for so long. Most likely someone will and maybe he will bloom into a good 1st-liner elsewhere. To me he's a good 2nd-liner on a contending team, obviously nothing to denigrate.

Too bad that management has changed in Edmonton. Maybe we could have gotten Draisaitl in a multi-player deal.

I don't see the causal link here. As others have stated ad infinitum, moving Kreider is all about his age and contract status – and indeed, the reason he's seen as perhaps the prime candidate remaining to move is that he would be valued so highly around the league and would therefore bring back a big return.

Look at his point totals. That is with playing injured on the back end. To say he is not a top line wing is disingenuous. You are really going to come up with 30 LWs that are better?

He is in this situation because the GM wants to acquire more assets and Krieder may be the team's asset that is the price to acquire such.

His point total places him as 91st forward and his goals have him as top-50. That is a top line player. And he played hurt the last part of the year.

Spotted this in Staten Island the other day.... am I crazy or is this really out of place!??

My dad moved us there from Brooklyn right before my last year of junior high school. The day I graduated high school I was out of there - I'd be perfectly happy if it WAS part of Canada. Awful place.

Agreed, Staten has been one of the worst places I've ever lived in, but my wife is from here, and I have a great set up, just don't like the people, for the most part.

Just odd that there's an Edmonton Oiler fan living here and such a big one I mean who does that, a huge flag pole on his lawn, and an Edmonton Oilers Banner?? For a second I thought John muckler might have made it his retirement home.

My girlfriend moved out there with her folks after 2 years of us dating, 3 years later and man I love her to death but Staten Island sucks so bad... If it weren't for her living there I would literally never go there unless I was going to Jersey.

I think there are quite a few players (specifically forwards) who are valued differently by teams that could slip to the Rangers at 20. Especially if Knight goes above and someone goes off the board ahead of us. I think the Rangers understand this and will be more inclined to be patient and see how things transpire before pulling the trigger on a deal that can move them up a few spots...

That is a possibility. Especially if Knight going off the board coincides with a run on defensemen (Broberg, Sodestrom, possibly Seider). Suddenly that center that we have talked about could fall without having to move assets to move up.

I do however feel that Gorton is going to be aggressive. If he sees one of the names he covets start to fall, I think that if possible, he makes the move and does not take a chance in waiting.

How much is too much to move into the low teens though
Kreider. Way too much to pay to get into that range. Now, if they (whomever they may be) begin to sweeten the pot with a Lemieux/Howden type of prospect and the 2020 first, I am listening. But then again, I am not Jeff Gorton. Nor do I play one on tv.

I would be pissed if they moved the 2020 1st. We have no business doing that.

Sorry, i misread that.

I know it's counter intuitive to some people but if your team always has an issue getting quality goaltending and there are teams like that--Spencer Knight is not a dumb pick to make in the 1st at all.

Particularly if you are picking outside of the top 10 or wherever you are far from certain to be drafting a 1st line talent.

His combine results were crazy. I am a fan, but a goalie early in the first is a good way for a gm to end up with a broadcasting job. The consensus around here appears to be third round. Knight should be an exception to that rule.

Do the 2016 draft over again and the Hurricanes aren't taking Bean and the Islanders aren't taking Bellows--they're taking Carter Hart who was thought of as easily the best goalie in that draft and IMO Knight looks like he's going to be better than Hart and he is easily the best goalie in this draft. Looking at the Panthers this year--just for one team--yeah they might sign Bobrowsky but goaltending has been an issue for them for a while--better goaltending last year and they're easily a playoff team--they have young forwards and they have a good defensive group. Carolina's biggest weakness is in goal. Mrazek did pretty well in the playoffs at least the first two rounds but he's an iffy guy. Those are teams though with forward and defensive depth--Vegas is another--Fleury is still really good but he's kind of Henrik's age range so you have to wonder when he's going to hit the wall--that day is going to come.

Anyway I wouldn't be surprised at all if Knight gets taken before the 20OA pick.
