Like we already have?
Our drafting has been shit for years and we lost our top 2 prospects in the summer to offer sheets and traded away the only guy we drafted outside of the first round who actually became a NHL player. I hate to say this but McDavid must be seriously contemplating not resiging with this shitshow.
4 nations was a good taste test for McDavid. Now he knows even the best of the best, he has trouble finding chemistry there. He's welcome to test the market, no other team got a Draisaitl there

The statistical count of hits is irrelevant IMO, this is purely an eye test question. "Hits" isn't the same as forecheck pressure, and energy which are obviously size related.

If we're winning the cup we could very well be going through the Kings, Knights, Jets, and Panthers. You think we can compete with any of those teams physically in a playoff series or even come close as we stand today?

I get it - physicality is persona non grata for some because it doesn't show in charts and they think it silly. It matters, and it will if we think we're gonna win shit in the playoffs this year.

I don't think it matters much when we have a sieve in net who's gonna get feasted upon by any of those teams in the playoffs in the first place.

As far as Arvidsson goes, the Predators have cap room and he's a friendly face in both directions. Try and send him there.

Wasn't the question, but sure.

Assume we get a goalie. Think we can compete physically with any of them?

I never viewed the team including from last year to compete physically match their opponents in the playoffs, mind you. They beat them with their speed, but speed is something they lack in heavily this season. And there's no assuming we get a goalie, when its already obvious this management isn't interested.

Yup. And there is chatter that someone has demanded a trade. Honestly wouldn't be surprised to hear it's Connor.
Why would he demand a mid season trade at this point??

He can go wherever he wants in 4 months time at the dollar amount he wants, if that is what he really wants to do (which I don’t).

lol.

If Connor demanded a trade while the team was in first place in the division, despite him having a pedestrian season by his standards, coming off a game 7 finals loss, then he can get leave.

Everyone around here is forgetting that this season was going very well until the last small stretch, and a huge reason that the team is in that stretch is because McDavid himself is slumping. Things are not nearly as bad as they seem.
Can we trade some posters instead ;) ?!?!?

We don't have Holloway, Kane (potentially), Foegele anymore which accounted for a lot of size, speed and hitting with this team. Not really at all accounted for in any way this year.

Assuming it's fine because it was last year is the same as saying Skinner will get us to game 7 again because he did last year.

I agree having physicality helps brings up the intensity, but when the media is yapping for a McCarron who's in the mold of a Carrick/Bjugstad, it's just gross. Players like them are more a liability on ice if anything. Frederic would make sense more, but I personally want the goaltending to be shored up as a priority before I look at the bottom 6 potential players. It's easier to find those bottom 6 players anyways.

But yeah, I basically already see it as:
Middle 6 winger: Donato
4C: McCarron type of player (barf)
and a random depth D.

Would be such an underwhelming deadline but expected zzzzz
Yup, lets hope for better than Donato.

Also I have time for Stern or Kunin or Bjugstad or Sundqvist as a 4c.

They already f***ed up the Holloway thing. I along with many others just didn't expect guys like Arvidsson to be such a major disappointment. That being said, I really have no hopes for this deadline. It's just gonna be a pile of meh filled with the excuses we've heard numerous times in the 5 years of Ken Holland's tenure.

Should try and get McCarron and Cole Smith in a package deal.

I'm sure some chart will get thrown out showing they're actually bad, but they are an effective line that plays with energy, is great on the kill, is great on the forecheck, and push the puck in the right direction.
