Krebs is kind of known as a 200' player--really good skater--more a playmaker than a shooter. Some grit. I've seen comparisons to Toews with him. Hard not to see him becoming a pretty good NHL player--at least if he makes a decent recovery from his injury. If he's still around at 20 he'd be a great addition. I thought of him pretty much in the 10-15 range and more towards the 10. He's already pretty well rounded. Kind of a better skating pass first version of Lias.

Still, he couldn’t really match up against the other top Cs in the U18. I have him in the 1st round and I am not going to trash him as a prospect. But I definitely wouldn’t hold my breath on him becoming much better than a Ryan Strome. Top ability just isn’t there.

Now he has Achilles problems? Let me guess, when people in the future see that he isn’t a great skater they will blame it on that, say that he must have had permanent damage.

Just seems like a really dangerous pick. He has the top C spot handed to him for Canada, the 2nd line C for Canada is a late pick, no competition. Good stats. Then he interviews well. There is no hockey played, that is when he starts to rise. His best part of the season.

Yeah my proposal was way too weak. And like you said begrudgingly. Have to keep Kreids.
I think that we as a group forget and sometimes do not see the forest through the trees because we see our players every day.

Kreider is a legit top line wing. Hayes was a legit 2nd line center. Kreider has to bring back more. IF I am moving Krieder, it will be for a market value deal that is worthy of moving first line, in prime talent.

Ronnie Attard, anyone see him this past season?
Saw 3 games of his. Zac Jones (his D partner and 2019 first year eligible) impressed me a bit more but Attard was a monster in the USHL this year. Jones has the higher upside but Attard is a big RHD with translatable tools in his great skating and a booming shot. Plays like a smaller Parayko. His IQ is a bit questionable but he can move the puck well. I’m not sure how to evaluate overage USHL players though but 30 goals in 48 games is impressive for a defenseman at any level which is a massive jump from 8 in 50 last year. Also not sure how good Western Michigan’s program is but he’ll be going there next year. He seems like a NYR type pick though and wouldn’t mind him as early as the 3rd round. Have Attard at 71 (Jones at 61)

I think both have high upside though

Anyone who drafts him is going to have doctors all over him. They're going to understand what his prognosis is.

Late? No. I would begrudgingly deal him for 10-14 this year, 20+ next year and a Lemieux/Howden type of prospect.
You aren't getting 2 firsts, one being in the top 15, and a previous 1st round prospect for a year of Kreider.

I could see that second 1st being a added as a condition if he re-signs with the team he's traded to.

we are all aware of the trend that has allowed smaller players to make it in the nhl but this is still interesting

I think this has a part in the elimination of the physical/enforcer game, making way and room for a more skilled game in today's NHL!!

HI! I'm a Canadiens fan and I'm asking other teams fans what are the first need you have to adress with your first pick. The Canadiens needs to find a winger (powerforward or goal scorer) and secondly, a top4 D. Cheers!

Crozier is the better overager, IMO. I don't put too much stock in a 20-year old kid lighting up the USHL, especially when his previous two seasons were nothing special. He's a fun player to watch because he's just better than the competition, but like you said, I don't think the mental game is there for him. Maybe he'll buck the trend as a late bloomer, but I don't really see it. I wouldn't be opposed with a 4th rounder or an extra 3rd if we get one.

The need we have to address is Kaapo.
High-end offensive skill.

In other words, we’re taking whichever of Hughes or Kakko is still available after the Devils pick.

I like Crozier as well but I haven’t seen him much

I sleep like a baby as a Rangers fan in two weeks if they come away with Kakko and York in the first round.

The lack of Johnson disturbs me...

Lol all kidding aside, nice list

Like most have mentioned, high end skill which NYR will get with either Hughes or Kakko.

We could use a big shut down defender. Maybe McQuaid returns?

I would trade Kreider for the #12 pick this year and a 1st rounder next year in a new york minute. As much as I like him, he is always going to be maddeningly inconsistent. Plus, he is going to cost a pretty penny next summer and I'd rather free up that cap space.

We can do you one even better, how bout your pick for a gently used Neal Pionk ?

Thoughts ??

I bet you would, but I think that’s an either or scenario.

Any realistic chance that Cozens drops to the early-mid teens. I never really saw it as a real possibility but I’ve been seeing more people mock it lately. I’m just unclear as to whether his stock fell a bit or he’s just not the flavor of the month.

100 percent agree.

Right now I am basing my approach on what we have, with an eye toward what I hope we have on that day.

Personally, I’d love a trifecta with a wing (Kakko), a center and a defenseman. Second to that scenario, two wings and a center.

I agree 100%. If Gorton can pull that off, then I’ll be extremely impressed. Kakko/center/defenseman would be a killer draft. If they draft well, then that could theoretically be one of the best drafts in team history - possibly the best if that center really hits.

Seriously though, I am a bit afraid of that a statement like this soon will have to be written in a past tempos (sp)...

Do the guys in charge now know what they are doing? Goals are up and it keeps going up, but they are making the same mistakes that were made in the past...
