Seriously though, I am a bit afraid of that a statement like this soon will have to be written in a past tempos (sp)...

Do the guys in charge now know what they are doing? Goals are up and it keeps going up, but they are making the same mistakes that were made in the past...

Recent drafts indicate they do

The best way to run a franchise is to build a great team, mortgage your future in it to win, win and win, then after 10-15 years or so completely crashland and get new mega stars.

LAK is in a bit of a tricky spot. They should have 3-4 years at least if their cycle. But they went a bit in the wrong direction and their nukes haven’t been able to carry everything themselves. Don’t think they necessarily are that far away. Would they consider trading 5 overall for cost controlled help ‘now’?

We have been scouting each other forever.

Kreider @50%, Shattenkirk @50%, Smith 50% and Chytil for Dustin Brown, Gabe Villardi and 5th overall. ;)

You can only retain salary on 2 players per season. Rangers already have 900k retained for Spooner next year. So this is trade cannot be made. Unless this was pure sarcasm...

Isn't it 3? But to answer your question, I don't know if it was pure sarcasm, but I think there is zero chance for that trade to happen. However, I wouldn't rule out that something along those lines could go down.

HI! I'm a Canadiens fan and I'm asking other teams fans what are the first need you have to adress with your first pick. The Canadiens needs to find a winger (powerforward or goal scorer) and secondly, a top4 D. Cheers!

Winning the No. 2 lottery addressed that issue for us. When two players particularly stand out in a draft--you take one of them. It's the only sensible thing to do though I think there are a number of very good other players coming after them. So as long as the Rangers don't go off script we're going to be happy in this forum on draft day.

I agree 100%. If Gorton can pull that off, then I’ll be extremely impressed. Kakko/center/defenseman would be a killer draft. If they draft well, then that could theoretically be one of the best drafts in team history - possibly the best if that center really hits.

The potential is already high because of Kakko and the additional first. Adding a third first round pick would be tremendous.

I’m tempering my expectations because we very well could come away from this draft with our present number of pick, or with little or no movement.

But there is a road to do something truly special. I just hope we can take advantage of it.

I greatly respect the efforts by all to hype up expectations so much that i'll somehow be disappointed that we only ended up with the best forward prospect in franchise history LOL

I hear you. But if we only drafted Kakko next Friday it would still be a great draft. That said, it could be one for the ages if they can find a way to add a 3rd 1st rounder. I hope they are pounding the phones to see who wants Kreider.

You aren't getting 2 firsts, one being in the top 15, and a previous 1st round prospect for a year of Kreider.

I could see that second 1st being a added as a condition if he re-signs with the team he's traded to.
Then again, I do not need to trade him. Instead of a lesser return, wait until next year's TDL and get back a package that is better than what you got for Hayes.

Anyone who drafts him is going to have doctors all over him. They're going to understand what his prognosis is.
There is still uncertainty. If he injures himself, he could loose quite a lot of development time. That would not have him ready to contribute for several years. But then the injury could cause him to drop to where the Rangers do not need to move an asset to get him and he may fall into their lap at 20. Tricky situation.

I think they would want us to throw in Strome at 50% and Vesey at 50%.

For years I have been getting grief here for writing that Kreider is overrated and not going to improve. Now everyone here is coming up with deals to send off Kreider.

We absolutely do not need to trade him, but there are plenty of indications that the team doesn't want to let it ride out that long. They already noted that they'd like to avoid the mental cost of another deadline sell off.

I think if Kreider isn't gone by July 2nd then the smart money is on an extension being signed shortly.

Has he not improved? And resigning him to a big contract doesn’t really make sense for the Rangers at this time

I think a lot of us here know what we're getting with Kreider, which is a big bodied winger that plays in front of the net on the power play that can hit 30 goals and 55 points in any given year. He has consistency issues and is a bit injury prone.

The desire from many to move him stems from not wanting to give him a retirement contract that will give him more money and term than he's worth.

I can completely see that scenario and would love for that to be the case. He is a part of the leadership group in the locker room and a good role model. He and ZBad can be the veteran leaders to lead the team through the rebuild and come out on the other side.

No. People believe that there is a decent chance that he gets moved, so are trying to gauge market value. That is entirely different than coming up with ideas of how to ship him out because he is disliked as a player.
