Haven't post in HF for a very long time. Read a lot, so the Rangers are 5OA as of today. Consensus have Hughes pick 1OA. What if the Rangers get the 2OA, do they pick Kokko or Byram?

I wonder if the team would consider trading down if they won the 1st overall pick in the lottery. They could probably get a king's ransom for it by trading down a couple of spots. I wouldn't do it but who knows with this team.

Kakko.

Generally speaking, the only player who might swoop in, with the right team, is Podkolzin. According to McKenzie, he’s ranked anywhere from second to tenth.

The consensus seems to be that there are 7 players in most scouts top 10:

Hughes, Kakko,Podkolzin, Dach, Cozens, Byram, Zegras. The order varies by scout.

Then there’s a group of players who are in a lot of top 10s, but not quite as many: Turcotte, Broberg, Boldy, and Krebs.

Then there’s players who pop up here and there in top 10s.

Ironically enough I can’t recall the last time the Rangers traded down in the first. They tend to get their guy and go home.

Having said that, a first overall pick would be unchartered territory.

But what would you really get for trading down?

The consensus top two players are Hughes and Kakko. I’d be surprised if the Rangers did have them 1-2 as well.

Let’s say they have them even. The only real scenario I can see is if the team picking second strongly prefers Hughes.

Otherwise there’s a drop that could only be justified if you got a blue chip prospect or young player, along with a high pick, in return.

Can you imagine this as a Ranger thing to happen: Dallas beats Tampa in the finals, but Zuccarello doesn't play in half their playoff games so we don't get either pick moved to the first round.

I agree that it would depend on the prospect coming back. Let's just say the Avalanche drop to 3rd overall and after a whole year of practically having the first pick, they really want Hughes bad. Would you take the 3rd pick and Kaut for the 1st overall? I'd ask for Makar but I doubt they would do it.

I have a vision of the Rangers making their way to the podium and saying, “With the fifth pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, the Rangers select, from the U.S. National Development Program...”

And that moment lasting an eternity as people wait to see if it’s Turcotte, Zegras, Boldy, or someone projected to go a little lower.
“...Alex...Vlasic!”

If he makes it there, then Gorton would need to pounce with a move a la Miller from last year.

Not so sure if I would trade up for him. Really not that big of a fan of his physical game. Similar to Spooner. We'll have to see how he does in the NCAA next year.

Would be tough, but it would have to be Kakko. Broke Barkov's record for U18 points lead in Liiga history. Going to be a top line winger!!

The most Ranger scenario? It’d be perfectly normal and I’d have zero qualms. This team has made me calloused to the worst potential hockey outcomes.

I go Kakko all the way.

I would also like to get another 1st around 6-8 to draft Turcotte.

If TB wins and we get there first. Can we get to around 6-8 if we trade

WPG 1st
TB 1st
2nd

Tough one.

Kokko the Clown, in the field of live local entertainment he is a GOD !

Welcome back !

Let’s say the Rangers end up with #2 and Colorado’s Ottawa pick falls to #4.

Value wise would you rather the #2 and the 28th-31st pick or the #4 and #13?

Unless Gorton was going to do something stupid with the #2 pick and not take Kakko, I'll take the #2.

Folks here have sold me on him being a star player in the league.

Unless we get two top-10 picks and a blue-chip prospect in return, I am not trading away a top-2 pick. Kakko is the type of player we have not drafted in decades

I’d just stick with Kakko.

To me, he and Hughes are the two players with the highest upside and potential to be franchise players.

Likewise, if the Rangers had 4 and 13, I don’t think the team picking second would trade down for 4 and 13.

Thanks buddy, do anybody feel Byram can be compare to Leetch? if so, that's a tough choice to make. As some people has mention Kokko will be a star wing someday but a great #1 defenseman is hard to find

I always wonder about the scenario where Colorado somehow comes out with both 1 and 2 (really slim but you never know how the ping pong balls bounce). Does Colorado make both picks or do they trade out of 1 or 2 to get a kings ransom and go home with one of Hughes and Kakko anyway?

I love Byram, but I wouldn’t go there.

However, I think if everything comes together, he could be a guy who is one of the top defenseman in the league - top 15, maybe even top 10.
