Which begs the question.... Why isn't he in the top 20? Never watched him but his numbers in SHL for a rookie are pretty mind blowing

Is it due to his WJC performance?
He’s played a lot with Ryan Lasch who might be the best SHL forward, led the league in points this year and was 2nd (after EP) last year. Might be because of that, in games I’ve seen he’s looked too reliant on Lasch to set him up. I don’t think Fagemo has high upside either, he’s an energy player who can score and chip in some other offense, likely a good middle 6er and he has a good chance of reaching that

Yeah I'm pretty confident in saying there's no way Newhook reaches 25. He's one of the top talents for this draft. If he's still available at number 13 I bet multiple teams would be ready to pounce all over him.

I have a feeling Newhook would last until the No.25 pick. Not as high on him as most....

It's possible. Picking a BCHL player is a big gamble. You watch some video and the competition isn't great. He's definitely a high risk pick but he has some great skills.

If he's still on the board with one of our later picks I'd be pissed if we didn't take him. We can afford to take some risk to try to obtain some top tier talent. I could see him developing into a pretty good 2C.

BCHL is a gamble, yet Cale Makar, (Cake Maker when you use auto correct) came out of a lesser league and was a top 5 pick just a few drafts ago.

Ristolainen can be pretty nasty to play against. He's big and strong and he knows it.

He's also on the trade block from BUF. All the tools, and a questionable toolbox. Lots of bad habits from playing on piss poor Buffalo teams. Makes a number of mistakes per game. Soft dumps, turnovers in transition, poor shot selection that goes back the other way, missed checks in front of the net.

It's one of those cases where he's got all of the points from a great shot and PP ability, but is pretty bad at even strength. BUF rushed him and played him in prominent roles without Rasmus learning some the fundamentals

@Mikos87 is right about Johnson- the kid has some absolutely insane wheels and just buzzes all around the ice. If he can fill out his frame and manage his defensive coverages better, there's a lot of potential there for a solid 2nd pairing dmen. The other kid I really like out of the USHL who I'm amazed is flying under the radar is Ryan Siedem. Similar style, RHD, and he's doing it all on an absolutely terrible team.

Another kid similar to Johnson that I like is Jake Lee.

I’ll be honest I don’t see the similarities at all. Johnson is a heavier style dependable shutdown guy and Lee is a fantastic skater who makes boneheaded plays defensively every night. I live in Seattle and watch Lee all the time. Johnson is a Late 1st/early 2nd safe choice while Lee is a mid round project.

Zegras 10
Dach 7
Krebs 1
Kaliyev 2
Podkolzin 3
Dorofyev 1
Caufield 1

Dach is my very uneducated guess of a choice. Big right shot center who is pretty much universally ranked highly.

Kaliyev and Caufield tied for my 2nd choice yet I'm a sucker for pre draft goal scoring stats while knowing basically nothing about the players :)

I was being too general in that they’re both highly skilled LD with really good wheels. I won’t argue that Johnson is the better prospect, even though I don’t necessarily agree with the heavier characteristic to his game. He’s more efficient when he chooses to be physical rather than a Lindgren type.

I still like Lee’s overall skillset and think his issues are easily coachable. I won’t lie that I’ve been disappointed after seeing him have a reallt good start to the year, but he’s still a young kid for this draft class, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see big improvements from him next season.

I think he's a good player. Not sure I think Housley is a good head coach. But anyway he's got size, strength, some offense to his game and he plays physically--he hits. He's going to have about 250 of them this year.

Has anyone seen or have an opinion on Simon Lundmark?
Seems to be a decent prospect
Perhaps a third rounder?

You might be thinking about the wrong Johnson. Ryan is a lithe speedy skater.

He’s a safer pick. Good two way RHD with some size. Does a bit of everything but nothing stands out, pretty average at everything. Likely an early third, I wouldn’t be upset with him in the 2nd but there are better players to be had

Because he's an overager, that's the only legit argument. His 5v5 rate stats are insanely good.

I have a vision of the Rangers making their way to the podium and saying, “With the fifth pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, the Rangers select, from the U.S. National Development Program...”

And that moment lasting an eternity as people wait to see if it’s Turcotte, Zegras, Boldy, or someone projected to go a little lower.

Since we all have PTSD, I think the same thing would happen if they had the #1 overall pick.
