Thanks buddy, do anybody feel Byram can be compare to Leetch? if so, that's a tough choice to make. As some people has mention Kokko will be a star wing someday but a great #1 defenseman is hard to find

Think Gary & Ryan Suter/Mark Giordano. Style and impact wise, those are two more apt comparisons.

Really feel like Kakko is underrated here, his D-1 production thwarts Rantanen and is just as good as Barkov’s.

He’s likely a 40 goal stud. If you get the two pick, you go up there and take him. That’s it.

Just had 2+1 on a playoff game.

#beast.
He's going to be such a superior 5on5 player vs Laine.

College Free Agent Update

Three free agents with some ties to the Rangers have signed AHL contracts with other organizations. Colt Conrad of Western Michigan, who was at Rangers development camp two years ago signed a contract with the Toronto Marlies. Dylan McLaughlin of Canisius, who was at Rangers camp last year signed with Rockford. And Tyler Sheehy of Minnesota, who the Rangers were rumored to be interested in, signed with Iowa.

Big right handed defensemen, Grant Hutton, of Miami signed a one year contract with the Islanders.

Two players with connections to the Rangers saw their seasons end last night and likely will be in the next week. BU's Bobo Carpenter, was recruited by David Quinn and played for him for three years, saw his team lose in the HE semi final. And Mason Bergh, who attended Rangers camp last year, had his season lose in the NCHC Semifinal's.

Conference finals are tonight with the NCAA final 16 announced tomorrow. A few more teams will have their seasons end possibly providing some additional free agents.

Hughes and Kakko have the best odds to be franchise players.

There are other guys who might get there, but their odds are significantly lower.

When you get past the top two, you’re talking about guys who have more “first line ceilings” than “franchise player ceilings.”

Kakko is a pretty strong bet to become a solid top 2 line center. If you can get that with a high pick its usually very good value.

I know this is an opinion I am a bit alone of having, but I am not totally sold on his upside. To be clear -- I think you can pick him 2nd overall and come away with solid value, I think its likely that you would do that. So that is a pretty strong statement in support of him. But, he also plays a style that can be fairly containable in today's game. vPod has an offensive creativity that Kakko don't have and Turcotte got a gear in his skating and a lot of intensity that Kakko also don't have.

Is Kakko the next Olli Jokinen or will he have another gear? Jokinen wasn't a bad pick at 3rd overall, behind Joe T and Marleau. But not a franchise defining player...

I always wonder about the scenario where Colorado somehow comes out with both 1 and 2 (really slim but you never know how the ping pong balls bounce). Does Colorado make both picks or do they trade out of 1 or 2 to get a kings ransom and go home with one of Hughes and Kakko anyway?

If they trade out of those pics Sakic should be fired on the spot.

If that's the case, keep him away from shootouts when making the playoffs is on the line.

What are people's thoughts on Kakko playing center?

The a winger to make an effective switch to center is Tomas Hertl. Anyone see that type of switch happening?

I love Byram, but I wouldn’t go there.

However, I think if everything comes together, he could be a guy who is one of the top defenseman in the league - top 15, maybe even top 10.
Would that consider a #1 defenseman? If so, I always thought you built a team from the net out. I'm not arguing Kokko or Byram is better. But to build a team from scratch , you need a true #1 stud defenseman to start. I'm ecstatic if we can get Kokko.

Byram is number 3 on my list. If Kakko or Hughes are not an option, Byram is my top choice.

Laine has the better shot, but Kakko is the better overall player.

I do. I think it's very reasonable to assume that whoever drafts him will at least try him at center.

Who would we compare Hughes to? I've heard Kane but that seems to be a stature thing given Kane is a winger.

Rich man's Mat Barzal?

Barzal but not a rich mans one. They should be similar in points, I personally don’t see 90+ potential for Hughes due to his lack of a decent shot and his IQ isn’t amazing. Not gonna lie Hughes kinda scares me sometimes

I'm far too lazy to read 36 pages worth of thread, so who would you guys have as your targets for each of our (hopefully 3) picks? Only one I'd really be certain on is wanting Turcotte with the NYR pick

NYR pick - Turcotte/Byram/Zegras
Winnipeg (will land somewhere between 25-28) - Brink/Heinola/Beecher
Tampa - Hoglander/Fagemo/Vlasic

Rangers pick is assuming they don’t get Hughes or Kakko

Some lists don’t even have him as a 1st rounder right now.
Yeah but it only takes one to love him. Last year a lot of ppl on this board really wanted kravtsov with one of our later 1sts but by the time of the draft we realized that if we wanted kravtsov we had to take him with our 1st pick.

Podkolzin is the sexy Russian pick but Dorofeyev might be the better player

He definitely will be a first rounder. If he’s available late in the first you take him for sure
