Alright, let's take most people's favorites off the board.

We pick 6th, and Hughes, Kakko, Cozens, Byram and Turcotte are off the board.

Your pick is_____________.
As of today, I am still taking Dach. But by the draft, I could be saying Boldy.

If you're talking about high value picks in the 23-31 range you could see guys like

Pelletier
Robertson
Heinola
Seider
Poulin
Tomassino
Suzuki
Out of that group, I would probably take Suziki first. Tempted by Poulin, but think that he may fall to the second round, where the Rangers will have an early crack to get him.

Who would you take?

If you would've asked me two months ago I would've said Dach.

But man, Zegras has made that a really tough choice for me. He just looks like a skilled, successful NHL player.

In this scenario, I think I'm going with Zegras by a nose.

So that has us at 4-3-2 for Zegras, Dach and Krebs.

I'd love to see a trade to get a pick in the teens, but that may not be feasible.

I'd suspect it'd be more like the Miller trade up and pick. They see a guy they really like that's within a reasonable striking range for a trade up and want to jump on it. Jumping from the end of round 1 into the teens doesn't make a ton of sense IMO...what team is going to give up that pick and why? And what would it cost the Rangers and would it make sense to pay it?

Sabres and Oilers stink to high hell. What jokes.

Last 10 drafts the Sabres have had 6 top 10 picks, and 3 in the top 2. (1, 8, 8, 2, 2, 8 & 16, 12 & 14, 16, 23, 13)
Last 10 drafts the Oilers have had 9 top 10 picks and 5 in the top 3. (10, 22, 4, 1, 3, 7, 1, 1 & 19, 1, 10)

Disgusting. The Sabres continue to lose. They had a 10-game win streak at the end of November and were in first place and then the wheels fell off. They've dropped like a rock. The Oilers flat out suck. They've made terrible moves and signings despite having generational talent. Neither deserves another top 3 lottery pick - but they'll both have a decent shot at another.

Lets hope the Rangers don't find themselves in the same cycle of losing after getting some high picks. In the same frame they've only drafted in the top 10 twice - but after this years draft (barring any trades) they will have made seven 1st round picks (potentially 8 if TB wins Cup) in 3 years.

20, 19, 10, 15, 28, None, None, None, 7 & 21, 9 22 & 28

Add in 1 for AK’s inevitable vote for doro

I think Zuccarello coming back could give that team a big boost. Not to mention Benn.

They sorta remind of the 2014 Rangers honestly. Nashville/Winnipeg aren’t exactly rolling right now, I wouldn’t be shocked if Dallas squeaked by either team.

Yeah I think a healthy Dallas team could push a weak west if they're lucky but I don't know how healthy they'll be? Since the west is kinda crap this year though you never know

Zegras but wouldn’t be mad if it was Dach.

Dach is probably the player on the list I am “lowest on” but any of those five plus Zegras/Dach and I am pretty excited.

In terms of a potential second or third round pick, a name I like is Case McCarthy.

He's one of those guys who doesn't jump out at you when you look at the box score, but you appreciate his game when you see him play.

Solid, two-way, moves the puck well, reads plays well for his age, a right-handed shot, a good frame to grow into.

Both teams honestly have bad management and bad coaching and bad scouting.

I think even if Gorton isn't a great GM (in my mind the jury's still out on him a bit...he's had some good and some bad) he's better than what the Oilers and Sabres keep throwing out there and the Rangers scouting is also probably a fair bit better even if it can be criticized.

Teams like the Oilers and Sabres seem to be perpetually stuck and unable to figure out how to surround their gift elite players with other quality players and a system that works in the NHL. Those last two things usually require at least acceptable drafting in order to stock your roster with good players and a GM who isn't an idiot when it comes to hiring coaches.

Buffalo and the Oilers are going nowhere fast until they sort those things out.

I really couldn't complain coming away with any one of Cozens, Dach, Turcotte or Zegras.

I know the board leans Cozens and Turcotte, so I was curious as to what we'd see if I took them our of the equation.

I'm actually a little surprised Zegras is leading. I feel like he's been the George Harrison of the young centers in this draft.

I'm going for upside with Kaliyev and I know everyone disagrees with me.

Well George is my favorite Beatle so that should explain things

Agree completely. It also doesn't help that those are two of the most undesirable places to play in the league.

Going to keep this as a running tally, because stuff moves quickly.

With the Hughes, Kakko, Byram, Cozens and Turcotte off the table, the board picks:

Zegras 4
Dach 4
Krebs 1
Kaliyev 1

Tough call between Dach and Zegras but I go Dach because I think the ceiling is higher. He has legit 1C potential, 6'4" 200+ lb RHS. Boldy would be next, he has future Selky potential from the wing. Size, scoring, 200ft game.

Dach
