Hypothetically speaking, would a package of Buch or Skjei+Kreider get us into the top 10?Not advocating doing it,just wondering if the value is close

No way you move Buch right now. Kreids and Skjei should entice a team in the top ten I would imagine.

I’d move those two but you’ve got to hang on to Buch especially with Kravs potentially coming into the fold. Would be solid mentorship for the kid. Buch was growing up big time as the season went on this year.

Yeah, but don’t feel bad cus it’s even possible that Rangers brass are doing the same.
I would even say we as a group are primitively just like Rangers war room. Some might say we’re better!:sarcasm:
I'd be interested to see how the prospect experts on this board fare in the draft. Should appoint a GM and a few Lieutenants and go live with the real draft. I bet you guys would do well.

I wouldn't be quick to trade Skjei either. I think he has plenty of potential still. I know he has become a bit of a whipping boy here. But personally, I think he's a nice guy long-term. He doesn't have much offense, but he's pretty good all-around and plays the "modern" style.
Were he on another team, I reckon he might even be a coveted player around here.

So we lose a very good pick with our second rounder going bye bye to Carolina BUT
we could potentially come out of this offseason/draft with Kakko-Seider-Fox plus more obviously. That's adding some serious talent not just quantity.

Yeah, this is what I feel as well. Getting Moritz Seider too would be hitting it out of the park. There is a bit of a recency bias involved. For this German team, I also think that guys like York, Phil Broberg and Kaedan Korcak could play and at least get by. Seider gets an unique opportunity to play in the WCH that he never would get if he was like Swedish or Finnish or American.

But he is another stud, a real breeding bull, Champion show dog -- a grade A species of human kind. ;)

These kids will trigger each other, compete really hard. Seider would be another kid that sets the bar really high for everyone else. Fits really well on our depth chart as a RD with size. And like it -- should at least in theory -- be such a safe high value asset to add if you do well with him. Get him to focus on the right things, stay lean, skating laterally, making that first pass. Give him time. He should be ready to jump into the NHL as a highly touted RD with a complete skill set, and while there are no guarantees and he easily can become more or a no 5 than a no 2-3 -- he would still be what everyone need and someone you easily could turnaround for a great return.

I definitely agree. I think he is in the same position as Hayes was going into the 17/18 season. Many were then discussing Hayes like we are talking about Names and Vesey now. Get rid of a few players, Hayes included, and replace them with this and that. Skjei could easily have his best 7-8 years in front of him. In fact, the only reasonable expectation is that Skjei has his best 7-8 years in front of him.

Thanks Ola. Especially if their is the yearly run on defensemen, he could go quicker than expected.

Yeah, but sometimes its just hard to know how NHL teams will view these kids so who knows.

Like I still don't quite understand why 31 NHL teams were really down on Bode Wilde last season. I understand the fear, you don't necessarily want to get the next Cody Fransson if you get what I mean. You want someone that can skate and pass the puck. But the separator sending some kids to the 'we don't believe that he got it'-side and others to the 'you can only get these kids high in the draft'-side seem to be really sharp.

I agree with this, but it’s also why I think he can be the centerpiece of a Trouba deal.

I’m just trying to maximize that return on Kreider. That’s probably one of the best more expendable packages we could come up with that wouldn’t murder our future.

However I see your point and I am a Skjei fan and do think he could get better and better and that’d be huge as he’s already kind of a vet.

if we can move kreider for another top pick/player and trade for jake trouba next yr and i think he's a legit target, and add kakko plus kravstov to this lineup then that's a very good start to a rebuild.

if the deal is 76 plus LA for trouba. i do that deal right now.

defensively is see us as pretty strong prospect depth wise so i don't believe a defenseman will are chosen with our 1st rounders. adam fox changes things a lot i think.

if we move kreider to move up in the draft, it wont be for a dman. after byram, there just isn't anyone that enticing. its gotta be a forward they move up for and someone they think is worthy of removing 20 from the roster for.

kakko and another top 15 forward is my guess

that will be our first round.

Two young up and coming coaches
Williams-Staal-Nino Kreider-Zib-Kakko
Svech-Aho-Tera Kravtsov-Chytil-Buch
Foegle-Wallmark-Ferland Lemieux-Howden-Strome/Lias

Slavin(31pt/82g)-Hamilton(39/82) Staal-ADA (30/61)
Pesce(31/82)-Faulk(35/82) Skjei(25/78)-Fox
TVR-DeHaan Hajek-Shatty

Mrazek/McElhinney Hank/George/Igor

Maybe I'm underrating Carolina's talent, they're obviously in the ECF, but if we insert Kakko into the lineup, like they did Svechnikov, without making any other moves I don't see how we're a bottom 5 team. Yes everyone has to play up to their levels and we can finish bottom 5 but there's no reason we can't make a run.
Injury free Kreider and Zib should have 30 goals each. Buch and Lemieux finished the season strong. There may be sophomore slumps but I expect Chytil, Andersson and Howden to at least be more consistent next season. The defense is what really kills us but Fox and Hajek should really help us along with the emergence of ADA. If everyone plays a full season Skjei, Fox, ADA and Shatty can all put up 30 pts like Carolina's D and if people are slotted correctly (no Pionk Staal pairing and penalty kill) there may be a lot less goals given up. I also think we clearly have an edge in goal tending.

Our PP1 has a chance to be LETHAL with Zib and Kakko blasting one timers from either side of the ice, Kreider one of the best tippers in the league and either Fox, ADA or even Shatty out there. Any improvement in PK/defense overall and we can push for a WC.

This is why I would like to stay the course and see what we have with this group. If we still play like a disaster in our own end then ship out Kreider at the deadline and see if anyone takes Shatty. I want to stay away from big money and long term on Panarin. If we do suck we get another shot at the top 3 and we'll have even more prospects coming up the following year. It's a win-win.

Didn't realize the format would look that sloppy. Regardless of next season's finish I think we all have to be excited.
