Podkolzin will be #3 until those combine interviews happen and will either stay around there or sink like a stone in the sea.

Gut feel? We are one of the teams that doesn't have him at #3.

Important games:

Det @ Pit - Root for Detroit! They jump ahead of the Rangers in the lottery standing with a point or a win.
Mtl @ Was - A Wash win keeps Col in the race with a chance to clinch against the Rangers tomorrow night, A Mtl win in regulation/OT gives birth to the dream scenario*
NJ @ Car - Carolina would move ahead of the Pens with a win if Detroit beats Pit tonight.
Ott @ Buf - Losers of 8 straight, sooner or later Buf needs to win one right? This could give the Rangers a very outside shot of slipping down to #4.
Phi @ Stl - We want to Blues to win the Central to raise the 1st round draft pick they got from the Jets in the Hayes trade.
Nas @ Van - We want Nashville to knock out the Jets for the Central for the same reason. Vancouver cannot pass the Rangers in the lottery standings.

*Dream Scenario:

Doubt we will get the help from the Sabres to get to #4, so the ultimate scenario would be the Rangers falling to #5, while also eliminating the Pens from the playoffs on Saturday. For that to happen:

• Detroit wins (76) in regulation against Pit (97), Carolina (97) and Montreal (96) get two points tonight.
• Rangers lose (75) to Columbus (96) tomorrow night in reg.
• Detroit gets at least a point in Buffalo (77-78), Columbus gets at least a point in Ottawa (97-98), Montreal gets at least a point in Tor (97-98), Carolina gets tiebreaker against Pens no matter what happens (97-98-99) in Philly on Saturday.
• Rangers beat (77) Pit (97) in reg on Saturday.

Rangers #5, Pens out of playoffs.

Pens win the lottery, I find you and light you on fire.

Wow I like your creativity! Nice job. If that happened our game against Pitt would be a win win and lot of fun. If we won we knock them out of the playoffs...wow. Also if by any chance we can get 4 and we lose to the Pens so be it. I hope Detroit wins or grabs a point tonight but one would think the pens will be ready.

Let me flip your dream scenario into a nightmare scenario...We knock out pens and they win the lottery april 9th by going from 15 to 1. :help:

I already see fellow Ranger fans feeling the Pens Luck by winning the lottery if they miss the playoffs lol

For a team not making the playoffs we have lots lots and lots of rooting interest tonight and for the next few weeks at the very least

It was a joke on my part, it's going to be very tough for them to win anything if they miss.

It's going to be hard for them to miss though. Even if Detroit continues to kick ass, they have a date with the Rangers on Saturday.

I despise the NHL's lottery system. No team should be gifted a 1st overall pick from beyond maybe the worst 8 in the league. No team should be able to jump 8, 9, 10 spots.

The worst team in the league should have better than a 50% chance to stay in the top 3. They should probably be guaranteed a top 3 pick.

Some piece of crap franchise like Pitt will win 1 OA from the 15 spot and the entire NHL world will lose its collective mind.

Top 9 has not changed pretty much all year. Some slid up a bit, some down but largely the same.

And again, notice that Podkolzin is right up there at 3OA.

It seems like McKs scouting connections are a tad more represented in Canada than elsewhere (which isn’t surprising). Last season he had Bouchard at 5 and Dobson at 8 and so forth.

Looking at the mid season this year, I just thought that Turcotte at 11th was very odd. Now he is up to 7th. I would be very surprised if none of the US kids, Turcotte, Zegras and Boldy, ended going before any of the Canadian kids, Dach, Cozens and Byram. JMO, but I think we will see Turcotte jump another 2-3 positions. Zegras vs Dach vs Cozens is harder, think very much will come down to which team that makes the pick.

There is a lot not to like about the lottery system.

Teams shouldn't be allowed to live at the bottom either.

It’s a bit like how Winston Churchill describes democracy. Said something like that it is a horrible way to govern a state that really only have one single advantage, there being no better alternatives.

My only official position so far being that I don't want Krebs in the top 10.

Agreed.

Weight the odds more towards the bad teams. Who cares if teams “tank”? Clearly, it didn’t fix Edmonton or Buffalo, so why make preventative measures against it?

Not surprised to see Harley there. I think it was @Mac n Gs who said he could see Harley sneak into the top 10; I agree with him there.

I don’t love Harley the way some others do. I keep re-watching him and trying to figure out what it is that’s throwing me off on him and I think I realized what it is.

There are times when, if I didn’t know any better, I’d think I was watching Bobby Sanguinetti.

Similar sizes, similar moves, similar decisions that give me concern.

When I see Thomas Harley, I’m reminded of Bobby Sanguinetti. And I wasn’t a huge fan of his either.

I think the offensive skill level and frame to build on are much higher for Harley. Harley also fits much better in the speed and skill era, whereas Sanguinetti was caught in the crossroads. He’d probably be a stud prospect today.

Edit: I'll expand on this a bit too: it's important to remember the context here that this kid is almost eligible for the 2020 draft and is already a near ppg defender in the OHL. Maybe I'm overplaying my hand with him a bit, but I really do think he's much better defensively than given credit for when he's not being a bit of a riverboat gambler. My biggest issue is his decision making, and he's shown flashes where he can control a game and then shown spots where he looks like a bantam dingus out there. Maybe it's the age gap and trying to get used to the increased speed of the game in his first OHL year, but it's definitely been the one area where I have big concerns with him.

I think I see a slightly better offensive version of someone like Jake Gardiner to be honest. I think the defensive game will improve with increased structure and minimized risks around him. He won't be able to go coast-to-coast and wheel all around the ice in the pros, but it's already good to know his skill is there. The only other D I've really liked in the OHL this year is Jamie Drysdale, and he's a 2020 eligible. My favorite dmen are all US or WHL kids this year.

TBH, my knowledge of Harley as a player is extremely limited - he just screams “surprise riser to me”, from reading things around the league, much in the way Hayton did last year.

I could see a team in the 5-10 range (that’s not us) panicking and reaching for a D is Byram gets scooped up.

This is the only place where podkolzin isn’t the consensus 3rd overall. How serious are the rumors about him not coming over? I don’t know. Guess we’ll find out.

I've been saying for a while now I think a team say like Colorado who if they pick Hughes at number one may have a defenseman taken at eight nine or ten or wherever they end up picking with their second top 10 pick. Broberg, Soderstrom or York.
