In all seriousness, though, this does surprise me!!

NHL Scouting Combine, Day Four

Highlights Suzuki, Leason, Soderstrom, Broberg and Foote....

is leason really projected to go in the late 1st round after not getting picked in the last 2 drafts? if he was 3 months older he'd be ineligible for the draft and an undrafted ufa.

and i know that stats aren't everything but an 89 point season in the WHL as a 6'4 200lb 20 year old isn't even mildly impressive unless you are a dman...

some guys develop late so wouldn't surprise me if he gets picked but a 1st? just seems crazy to me

Seider is a weird prospect for me.

There are times I've seen him and he looks great. There are other times I've seen him and I haven't been impressed at all.

But the weird thing it's hard to pinpoint the cause for the difference. Sometimes you have a kid who struggles against unfamiliar competition and eats up the opponents he is familiar with. Other times you might have a kid who operates on cruise control and steps up against a challenge.

In Seider's case there hasn't always been a clear pattern for the differential in his play. He's performed great in situations where I thought he might struggle, but also struggled in situations where I felt like he should be firmly in the driver's seat.

He's intriguing because he can do things you don't often see from a 6'4 defenseman - he can move, he has complete control of the puck, he can move the puck, he can shoot it, etc. But there's a certain thought process that isn't always there and at times I wonder if his unique combination and athleticism helps him mask certain deficiencies in his game. As a result, he's been one of my biggest challenges to nail down in this draft. I see components that make me think this kid could play on a top pair in the NHL, and then I've seen other instances where I start to question the upside a little.

I will say that when you start getting into the late teens and early 20s, his upside becomes very appealing --- not unlike how a lot of teams viewed Miller last year. And like Miller, there's some talk about him potentially going earlier --- maybe just outside the top 10 or so. But I honestly have no idea what the final result will be. I could see him going just about anywhere outside of the top 8 or 9 picks.
Seems like a good problem to have. I wonder how he may improve with the full support and couching of an nhl organization because the physical attributes are clearly there.

The way he played in the Memorial Cup, he better not go in the 1st round (unless some other team wants to snag him making a better player drop)!!

@Lays

Went back in the log and the ones that were confirmed were indeed Wilde, Gross, Addison and a long conversation with Kravtsov. Heavily rumored, but no official confirmation, about the Rangers interviewing Boqvist, as well!!

I'll tell ya, going back into the old thread really was interesting. So many posters didn't like Quinn Hughes and wanted Joel Farabee badly!!

I was big on both, had Quinn at 3 and Farabee I think at 10 with Kravtsov at 11. Pretty happy with how it turned out though lol

I was defiantly one of the posters all over Farabee. He was my guy last year. But...I really like Hughes as well. Just never thought he would be available with the NYR pick.

Speaking of going back, here were my top 10 players for the 2019 class back in June of 2018!!

Way too early top 10 incoming!!!!

1. Jack Hughes
2. Kaapo Kakko
3. Bowen Byram
4. Alex Turcotte
5. Alex Newhook
6. Vasily Podkolzin
7. Kirby Dach
8. Dylan Cozens
9. Raphael Lavoie
10. Anttoni Honka

HM: Cole Caufield, Peyton Krebs, Alex Vlasic, Matvei Guskov, Victor Soderstrom, Artemi Knyazev, Henri Nikkanen, Mikko Kokkonen, Maxim Cajkovic

Top goalies, IMO, are Spencer Knight and Dustin Wolf.

I think I got a good majority of it right!! That top 4 looks to be spot on from today's consensus. Newhook and Podkolzin will most likely go in the teens same with Lavoie. Dach and Cozens can go anywhere in that top 5-10. Honka might go in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Some of the honorable mentions will go in the 1st round, too!!

Any thoughts?
