The Wings pick will be interesting for sure. They might even go off the board a little bit at #6. Would Broberg going #6 shock anyone?

Wings drafted Evgeny Svechnikov in 2015 out of the QMJHL, but the last time the Red Wings drafted a player from a Russian team? 2014, 7th round.

such shallow thinking and really not much effort here

the kid plays major junior. he went 19/29 in 19 in the playoffs. those are high end numbers against some very good talent.

he lead the canadian u18's last year in goals. you forgot that ? that was also against kids no ?

you may not like him and thats fine but lets stop with the stuff that hes not been impressive. because, simply put, he has been.
Apparently such shallow thinking is shared by many, not just me. He IS older than most of his competition. You cannot argue that. His MUCH older than some and is more physically mature than most. He should have dominated the entire year. You can be impressed by such visuals and that's fine. Bet let's examine the whole body of work as well as the level of competition.
big doesnt mean better and small doesnt mean not good enough.
Who said that? But look at the blue print of the teams that are left standing. Size does matter.

If Caufield drops, he is an intriguing. But I have to say, in watching the teams that are in the Finals this year, it seems that size is coming back into the equation. Boston and St. Louis is playing a big boy's game. I am not saying that skill and skating is not important, but to me it is telling that two of the bigger teams are in the finals this year.

I wouldn’t say so. Both Marchand and Krug are 5’7 & they both had blows last night!!

I think it’s more about toughness & grit than size, IMO....

You are right in that there needs to be an element of toughness and grit. That said, there is no denying the size of the teams that are left standing. Sure, you will get the smaller scrappy guys, but both Boston and St. Louis look impressive coming off the bus.

Kakko won’t be attending the combine after all....

Not that it really mattered, but it is interesting that some big Russian names won’t be there.

Typical though. Vasilevski had 28 interviews over 4 days in his draft year.

Really disappointed in those Russian no shows. was looking forward to getting info on Firstov, Gutik and Misyul.

I’d assume visa issues for most of them, but other things have happened before....

Is this indicative of something or just par for the course? I'm hoping he is picked early so it possibly frees up another prospect like Tomasino or Seider

Probably par for the course, but he most definitely has A LOT of suitors interested in him.

I really could see some team “reaching” & taking him top 10!!

I haven’t heard Matthew Boldy mentioned around here in awhile. Is it possible that he drops to the mid teens and becomes a trade up option for us? It sounds like centers and defensemen could be flying off the shelves.

I keep thinking Bryam or Turcotte/Cozens for Detroit. I could see Chicago going Bryam, Colorado Dach, Detroit Turcotte/Cozens

Yzerman seems like a pretty level headed guy... I doubt they trade down or make some off the board pick. If anything, I could see Yzerman try to jump up to 3.

Edit: thought Detroit had 5 and LA had 6... egg on my face!

Firstov, Gutik and Misyul are both Yaroslavl players, that team have visa problems or something? And Firstov has no excuse, he played in North America this season.

I could be way off, but I’m wondering if the Russian hockey schools are more interested in skills training than physical development. Is it possible that the North American kids generally test better? Perhaps the agents don’t think they interview as well with cultural/language differences. I’m sure it’s one thing to be interviewed by a Russian scout and another to be interviewed by a 70 year old GM in an awkward environment. I don’t know if any of this is true or not, just trying to speculate on why so many guys aren’t attending. They must think it won’t benefit their stock.

**not criticizing the Russian players, so don’t read it that way. I’m assuming they follow their agents advise.**

I've heard more about him being a top 10 pick than I have him falling into the teens.

LA brought their entire scouting staff and GM to see Cozens play in the playoffs, I think they like him.

Hughes
Kakko
Byram
Dach
Cozens
Turcotte

IMO It's either Byram or Cozens for the Kings.

I think those are the top 6 names we will see come off first, though one of Podkolzin, Zegras and Broberg could absolutely crash that party.

I think that Chicago or Colorado are the landing spot for Byram. If the latter, my what a top pair they will have in the future.

I think as different guys come in and out of the spotlight, a guy like Boldy kind of blends into the background a little. I think the odds are still in favor of him being a top 10 pick, or right outside the top 10.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Byram go to the Blackhawks but since they've drafted D pretty heavily recently I'll say Turcotte to Chicago, Byram to Colorado and Cozens to LA.

Detroit is a mystery. After getting to do the easy thing last year when two players fell into their lap, this year they might have to make a tough call.
