Leafs were flat, didn't make Broissoit work much at all. Too bad, he looked beatable.

Reffing was atrocious. When the Leafs dominate they come out with like 3 PPs in 2 games. When they go globetrotters, no infractions.

Game management is a curse.

Also, Andersen cannot be trusted. But at least they were outshot and lost, which isn't always the case...
actually it was a brilliant move by PM to start their back up

he knows how arrogant we are ,they mentaly went soft when they thought they had easy pickings in net

PM got the leafs to exhale,,what a brilliant strat by a vet coach

I wonder if Fred is still hurt. Despite what you read on these boards he usually plays like a steady 1A goaltender, but he just hasn't had it these past few weeks.

Either way, unacceptable effort tonight by the Leafs. Brossoit did not look solid yet they barely tested him. The penalties at the end of the game sucked big time, especially the Hyman one, and Keefe shouldn't lose his cool like that. In some ways it's cool to fire up your team, but he also conceded the loss there with 4 minutes left. There's aspiring coaches out there who would dream to be given a chance with a team down by 2 with less than 5 left to really let loose and show some creativity, but instead he gave it away.

He's a smart coach though so he will learn from his mistakes and the rest of the team can too. We need better goaltending to right the ship and for Matthews to get better. In the meantime I'd also like Mo and JT, two of our main leaders, step up and inspire the Leafs with their play. JT has been good while Mo has been lackluster.

Waited too long to get rid of Babcock
Waited too long to get rid of Freddy

TWo biggest mistakes dubas has made

The way I look at it is that if we got rid of Freddy in the offseason, we'd either have Markstrom, Holtby, Lehner, or Murray in net instead. Not exactly anyone on that list I would rather have based on the way they've played so far this year. There were not a ton of goalie options out there, and most of them have been just as bad as Andersen has been.

We can upgrade Andersen at the TDL and still get value out of him since he is low salary and an expiring contract which is low risk-high reward. Those other contracts would be our largest anchor right now by far (except maybe Holtby since he only has 1 year left after this one).

Starting goalie has to be priority #1 for Dubas though. I can't believe he would think we need a top 6 forward when we have a top 3 offense but also think Andersen has played at an acceptable level since Babcock was fired.

Put Hyman back on the third line.

Put Thornton back up with Matthews.

Put Kerfoot back with Tavares.
Thornton and Tavares need to piss off from this team. Complete waste of money. Ones 52 years old and the other has a body of a 52 year old.

Andersen: 2 deflections and a great shot by Ehlers through a screen, no chance. The misplay of the puck and the other...you can get salty on those.
Dermott: not playing well, looking confused.
The team: not the best tonight, that's for sure. Hockey's a funny game, one night you're world beaters, the next nothing works.
Keefe: I liked seeing him bark at the refs, I hope he continues it in the post game presser.

Team looks like they gave up on Andersen

I agree. I've never seen the team cheer him on after a win like they do with Campbell. I'm still not comfortable with the idea of Campbell being a starting goalie but i wouldn't mind a 1a/1b tandem if we managed to get another above average starting goalie. I'm crossing my fingers that maybe Dubas can get us Gibson from Anaheim.

This is a good preview of playoff hockey against the Jets.

Both teams have firepower.

The obvious difference is they have a goalie who can keep their team in the game and steal games.

Huge advantage for the Jets unfortunately.

0.844 save percentage. Are you kidding me? STOP APOLOGIZING FOR THIS GUY. What's wrong with you people?????????????????????????????????????????

??????????????????????????????????????????????????
Yeah, his stats weren’t great today. But neither were the stats from pretty much any leaf player.

Im just saying this ones not on Andersen.

Just stop

they came into OUR BARN and took 5 of 6 points and used their back up

Who cares. Watch the game.

If you think they were anywhere close to us the past 2 games then give your head a shake.

All I got from this series is Hellebuyuk has to play out of his mind for them to stay in the game when we are on our game. We played like shit today.

Put Hyman back on the third line.

Put Thornton back up with Matthews.

Put Kerfoot back with Tavares.
I'd go the opposite route.

Thornton - Matthews - Nylander
Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Engvall - Kerfoot - Mik
Whatever else you want

Give Matthews a shooter if he's limited there.

This was the closest thing to a 'thrown' game I've ever seen. Leafs seemed like they wanted to lose. Of course, I don't think that's the case but the effort tonight was very suspect. Coach is gonna tear them a new one.

It pains me to read all the Andy hate. The guy is playing with a nagging injury of some kind. He's been bailing the team out for years, constantly covering up defensive lapses. He's struggling but the team needs to play MUCH better.

I love and appreciate Freddy and I always will!

Has that injury been nagging since November 2019? That is pretty much how long he has been playing at this level. If an injury were hampering him that much, he shouldn't be in the net. We can find a goalie who can bring more than the .850 efforts he has brought the past handful of games.

He was really good under Babcock, but it is painfully obvious that whatever he had, he no longer has.

We couldn't get it done. Maybe due to not being able to ship Andersen away, but we are also getting rid of Phil Kessel retention next season which will give us breathing room to be active again. People here forget about the dead weight previous regimes left for us.
