Since the Oilers have everyone in their top nine with some sort of trade protection (with the exception of Perry) it would take an enticing location, like California, for one or more of these outstanding players to waive NTCs and NMCs.

With that in mind...

Brian Dumoulin (LHD) $3.15 Million AAV Pending UFA

:ducks

Viktor Ardvisson (LW) $4 Million AAV
2nd Round Pick 2025
Conditional 4th round pick (depending on how far the Oilers make it in the playoffs, pick gets bumped)

I think it would take a sunny destination for Ardvisson to waive his NMC, so Anaheim fits the bill. Of course posters on here will rant and rave about the Oilers needing to add a 1st to move him and all that but realistically Ardvisson is probably worth a 4th in a real world trade.

Dumoulin kills penalties and has been a great veteran presence on the Ducks blueline. However, his presence has blocked the playing time of talented, younger players like Pavel Mintyukov and Olen Zellweger. One or the other usually gets scratched as a result. The Oilers are rumored to be looking for this kind of player.

Dumoulin loves it in Anaheim but maybe he signs with Edmonton after winning a cup, and also after missing our annual February cold snap and thus not understanding the haunted look in Edmonton fans eyes in early March.

Why would you assume that the top criteria for Arvidsson is 'sun' when he just chose to sign a NMC with a contender in one of the coldest, greyest cities in the NHL?

Seems to me that Arvidsson would prefer to go to a contender and potentially play on the wing of a top C.

He might be willing to go to Anaheim, but your reasoning doesn't hold a lot of weight imo

I dunno, after this past month he might want to enjoy temperatures above freezing.

If you weren't here you can't know what I am talking about.

Geez!

We had a pretty bad cold snap for about three weeks in Feb. The lows were around -36C. I make jokes of course, but I think Ardvisson would like to live and work in California again. He might waive for that.

Maybe.
He might, absolutely, especially if he thinks he can produce well there over the next 100 or so games.

But guys want to play in the playoffs. Arvidsson left a sunny contender to come to Edmonton, and I think a lot of that had to do with Edmonton's Cs and the fact that they made the finals.

EDIT: speaking to value, I think this is a good trade. Maybe a little rich from Edmonton's perspective, but probably what it would take. Looks like a dream of a deal from an Anaheim perspective, IMO, but also not unreasonably so. Good proposal, assuming Arvidsson would be willing to waive.

I’d be okay with this trade…

I think arvidsson could be a good line mate for Leo, and if we can get some production off arvidsson we can flip him next offseason for an assets
