30-13-4 going into the break! Not bad. Not bad at all. We've got a pretty good head coach guys! Full marks!

I know some expect Kreider to tail off in the second half but I highly doubt that happens. It’s not like he’s shootings and scoring lucky goals. His goals are still going to be there because he’s a master in front of the net. That’s not going to change.

Just what we all thought

1st period was abysmal... but they turned it around in the 2nd.

Special Teams and Igor as always but WE NEED TO STAY PHYSICAL. It's how you slow these types of teams down and wear them out
Strome fight certainly helped.

I was watching NHLN and they were talking about how he doesn't just park himself in front of the net and everyone knows he's there. His timing of going to the net is also great and that's how he is getting open. He can easily age like Pavelski and still have good wheels.

If this were any other year, I would be super excited about our chances in the playoffs. But it seems this year there is a great disparity amongst teams. Just look at the eastern standings. It's like the 8 teams have already clinched a playoff spot halfway through the season. There are some really good teams this year and the rest are garbage. Never seen such disparity before. And then there are some really good teams like Avs and Canes who look almost unbeatable. So it seems, no matter who we play in the post-season, we will have our hands full. There will be no easy opponents in the first round, of that I am sure.

I guess then, now is the time to celebrate what a great season we are having. We are playing way above any expectations we had going in. Gallant has done a great job getting these guys to believe in one another. Yeah we might have a Norris Trophy winner, and a Breadman, and a superstar in Zibad, but it all starts with having the best goalie in the NHL. He could be the key to any success we have in the postseason.

Right. One thing I've learned throughout my time as a Ranger fan is we better enjoy the good times and not always be looking at the next " big issue." Yes there are strong teams out there but I would encourage us all to believe in our group too. They have shown a lot and earned my trust!

Okay but when is that trade happening? After this year? After next? After 2023? And at one point does Jones/Lundkvist value start to dip because you are hanging onto them?

Not everyone can make it or play the 6 spots available on defense. And the ideal trade for a 2C may never come along. So do you just do nothing and let values and returns diminish?

I'm not dealing either for a rental if that's what you are asking.

you're right, it's greater than Nils.

you're quickly approaching the notorious @EdJovanovski Kravtsov love derangement.

Ed Jovanoski said Kravtsov is going to score like 170 points in a season.

I'm saying Nils remains on par with Schneider as a prospect after 20 something games in which you have continued to try to convince people he's trash and should be moved for whatever we can get for him.

Yeah, same thing.

I'm the unreasonable one here.

So we beat the best team in the league, dominating them for the last 30 minutes. Doing it minus Kakko and Chytil. Most importantly doing it while missing Fox.

Oh yeah, but this team is terrible.
They lost the face-off battle. Lost the SOG battle. Did not have 5 times as many high danger scoring chances as Florida. Only scored 2 goals at even strength. Lafreniere and Kakko have not yet hit the 40 goal mark. While it is nice to score more goals than your opponent in a game, what have they really accomplished?

Says who?

Most scouts and pundits?

They are both mid/late 1st round picks and highly thought of prospects. Schneider is much bigger, more physical and smart and has scored 1 less point than Lundkvist in less than half the games. It's obvious he is more ready for the NHL game. I think Lundqvist is eventually moved for a top 6 forward, hopefully a center.

If Lundkvist brings back the best player that very well could be a good option. It would also demonstrate the lunacy of duhmetre on this issue that Nils is no good.

Also, what Schneider has done in like 10 games compared to 20 for Nils is really irrelevant in the long scale.

We are talking about defensive prospects. These kids are 20 and 21 years old. Defensemen are notoriously slower developers. They are far, far from finished products. People act like these 20 game auditions are indicate of long term evaluation. They really aren't. There is absolutely nothing either of them have done in their stints this year that would definitively change the mind of a scout versus their body of evidence as prospects.

In two years if it's the same story, then that's something to talk about.

I’m seeing it totally differently.

That's why metrics are important.

The eye test is different for everyone.

In thirty plus years as a Rangers fan Trouba’s season stands out to me. He’s playing so big and bad. The Rangers have had a number of great offensive defensemen but this kind of savage, we never get. I’m loving every minute of it and to me he’s as important as anyone to this teams future.

His savagery is overrated. It doesn't substantially contribute to winning games.

Just like fighting. It's fun for the fans. Doesn't impact the games. This isn't 1984.

KAM has a few gaffes here and there but I think he's been playing well and getting better.

Jones Schneider works
Once he reads things a bit faster...if he can do that....then he will be much better . He is slow on that first pass when he gets the puck . It causes us to be hemmed in a lot .

A few things stood out to me in this game

1. A win like this shows the strength of the rebuild this organization has undergone.

It wasn't pretty at times but as Gallant said the D gutted out this win. Lindgren (23), Hajek (23), Miller (22), Schneider (20) and Jones (21), with Fox out (also 23 but a stud) is a very young D corps along side the only true "vet" in Trouba. Normally such a young D would get torched by such a potent offense. It wasnt perfect but they got the job done. Miller in particular continues to grow. I'd be hesitant to move him.

2. The Powerplay may be the most important factor for the Rangers moving forward.

Now 5th in the NHL and 2nd in Net on home ice (Toronto) - they are scoring timely goals. Kreider is well on his way to break the single season Rangers record for PP goals, and teams will be forced to respect it and maybe change the way they operate 5 on 5. They are making it look easy, and without Fox right now which is a huge positive and a signal that Mika is back to being Mika

3. The coaching staff knows the in game adjustments needed - and actually get the results.

First period this team dumped and chased and gave Florida way too much respect. They backed into their own zone and gave Florida way too much room to operate, which resulted in a bevy of shots and high danger chances. They made the adjustment in the second and started to hunt down pucks, were more firm in the neutral zone and picked up the pace of their play and passes. It was noticeable. We've seen this team make adjustments in game or going into a period, unlike Quinn's teams that largely remained flat or just picked it up for a shift or two before falling back again. It shows to me this team has a lot of confidence and belief in Gallant and the rest of the staff and in themselves as a group to stick to a gameplan.

4. Chytil is a spare part right now, replaceable and can be traded.

Yes, there is still a lot of room for growth in his game and you dont necessarily want to give up on him, but when guys like McKegg, Gauthier, Reaves, Hunt can do the things necessary in their roles to win a big game like this against a very good team it shows Chytil really isnt missed. Though his game was nothing flashy - Barron in particular had a very strong, smart, heavy game and is going to grow into an important player who play can both wing and middle just as effectively as Chytil - maybe even more so in certain situations against top teams. IMO the next month and half is very important for Chytil to come back and separate himself if he wants to stick on this club.

Trouba's play continues to be slept on. By far our best defensive defenseman

No.

Adam Fox is our best defensive defenseman, followed by Lindgren.

I said to my brother before the season that Trouba needed to reach a Pietrangelo-type level this year, and hes done it.

Lol, he's not at that level.

there is nothing in his game that suggests he’s going to tail off agreed. He doesn’t have 20 high light reel goals
