Its pretty clear Lundkvist is the odd man out on defense. Gallant doesnt fully trust Jones so i doubt we see the Jones-Schneider pairing this year, but at least hes in the lineup. Schneider already looks like a long term core piece. Very exciting player. Nemeth might look better with a guy like Schneider who can skate, defend and move the puck so i assume they will be together during the stretch run unless they acquire a rental

It's way too early to make this determination, unless, of course, you get an offer on Lundkvist you can't refuse, but you might get a similar offer for Miller, Jones, or Schneider.

Gauthier, to be honest, is starting to creep into the Howden/Hajek category of just being too disappointing for far too long.
He just is not engaged enough shift to shift. Some shifts you see the tools come out. He can push defenders back on their heels and make them uneasy, draw penalties, get to the net. He can lay some big hits. And then other shifts he looks disinterested. That or he is thinking too much/slow and the play is already gone. There were a couple times in his own end tonight where I felt he needed to be more forceful along the boards with a hit, shoving a guy, or getting a puck out. Its like he is right there to be a quality 3rd liner that can score goals but he cant find that last piece of polishing.

Nils/Jones have potential, but Miller & Schneider are playing 20 minutes a night at the NHL level. Its not up for debate who has more value to the Rangers and around the league, they arent guys you trade.

It absolutely is up for debate. Potential is a real thing.

Just cause you have backburnered that concept doesn't mean the rest of the league has.

There are plenty of players who took longer to develop but then reached higher highs.

Furthermore, again, it's all about who brings back the most. If KAM for Lundell was available I'd do that without blinking.

Schneider has been 1000x more noticeable and effective than Lundkvist. I dont know what is up for debate there.

Miller is a work in progress who has his fair share of head scratching moments. I can see a debate on who is best out of Miller/Lundkvist/Jones longterm. Its hard to compare right now. And the other factor is you are dealing with different players. Different size players. Different styles to their games.

I think Jones/Lundkvist are the odd men out.

Back burnered what? Miller & Schneider have far more potential than Lundkvist or Jones and i doubt thats a minority opinion.

Im not trying to argue, its a good problem to have, but one of Nils or Jones is probably getting shipped out within the next 2 months. You cant play everyone.

I think it's a very debatable opinion.

I think the Rangers clearly like Schneider but he doesn't have the upside Lundkvist has.

I acknowledge someone is eventually getting moved but it should absolutely be held for a core piece return.

If we're really lucky we can get JT Miller for just Schneider and Lafreniere now
Ignoring the fact that Schneider isn’t UFA for…seven years…even if they were both the same age, same contract, I don’t move Schneider for JTM.

Well, who can argue things like "1000x"?

But I was referencing the idea that Schneider and Miller both have more value because they are currently playing in the league. That's not the end of the story.

Well, Trouba is eventually getting moved so hopefully we keep that in mind before shipping out these studs for rentals.

Just watched the condensed game. What a play by Igor to help out on Kreider's first goal.

I'm glad they gave it props on the broadcast - it was instrumental in setting up that goal.

Especially considering Igor is one of the best in the league at playing the puck on this stick - he knew how to take total advantage there.

Quite the assumption being made that Trouba, a proven defender in this league and with a NMC, is going to be traded and replaced by “studs” aka unproven prospects. Quite the assumption.

He makes $8m a year, he's only playing at a second-pairing level, and Schneider is his clone.

He will not see the end of his contract here.

I love that the second Kreider goal, he didn't even shoot it. The puck hit his stick with such force, all he had to do was hold on and it just f***ing shot itself in. In slow motion, and he just kind of watched in amazement.
Kreider 100% misses that goal the first 24 years as a pro by trying to whiff at it.

Okay but when is that trade happening? After this year? After next? After 2023? And at one point does Jones/Lundkvist value start to dip because you are hanging onto them?

Not everyone can make it or play the 6 spots available on defense. And the ideal trade for a 2C may never come along. So do you just do nothing and let values and returns diminish?

10 of Kreider's goals are deflections, 16 are tap-ins, 5 are wrist shots, 1 snap shot and one empty netter he skated in.

So 26 of Kreider's league-leading 33 goals are directly around the net, mostly garbage goals.

But when Lafreniere gets a tap-in it's unacceptable? Lol.

How has nobody mentioned this yet?

A goal is a f***ing goal.

Here are Lafreniere's first 8 goals of the season. I think he's doing just fine.

Thank you for this. Thank you.

you're right, it's greater than Nils.

you're quickly approaching the notorious @EdJovanovski Kravtsov love derangement.

I've been as critical as anyone else throughout his career, and I can honestly say that even without all the goals, at this point I don't get why they don't pin the C to his chest. I noticed a change in him when he came back from having those blood clots. Before I thought he was a headstrong egomaniac, after there was gratitude and much more attention to the bigger picture. I'd be really surprised if we go the whole season without seeing him named Captain.
That's really got to be a wake up call. He was in the prime of his life, and had that very serious medical condition. It kinda puts things in perspective, when you go through something like that. Glad Hank decided not to make a comeback after what he went through. Cause he really considered it, going back in net a week after surgery.
