All the arms race in the eastern division and now to have Florida and Carolina at the top. They added what? Puljujärvi, who is scratched?

What has Brindamour done as a coach that Maurice hasn't? Maurice coached Brindamour and brought him on as his assistant coach. I don't think there's anything Brindamour has up his sleeve that will shock Maurice.

I'm not underestimating them - I just don't think it's the nightmare/Canes-in-5/ end of the line matchup for us like a lot of posters have said. We have the same system as them. We have great team chemistry too. It's going to be a close series for sure, but after beating a superior defensive system like Boston and a superior offense/speed team like the Leafs, I don't see what we're afraid of. We've seen worse than Carolina.
There is no reason to believe that we can not
compete with the Canes, we just went through the grinder by beating the #1and #2 favorite teams to win the Cup, while being a wildcard team, I don't understand the "pearl clutching" I mean, what else do we have to prove?
I think this a 50/50 proposition, I watched them play NJ and NJ wasn't ready for Carolina, but we are.
If that was to be the case, I would be extremely happy for being able to watch Hockey in the full month of May.

Shit absolutely sucks for Yotes fans. Losing the referendum on an arena that your owner was willing to pay for (or at least, pay for the vast bulk of it) because unions didn't have some specific guarantees for the contracts is some bull ass.

Did they call cousins Wayne jetski

Omg I'm dead lmao
Chezki lol

Not series related but Arizona is going to be relocated. Feel terrible for their fans and I pray it's not QC.

Zero chance for a QC team right now.

The existing market doesn't generate enough revenue and they would be unable to generate new fans and new money to meet the necessary revenue to support the team.

I don't agree with this general assertion, and in fact I think the common complaint that "the NHL sucks at marketing its stars" is an inversion of reality. Connor McDavid is hugely popular in Canada, because hockey is very popular in Canada. He's not popular in the US because hockey is a niche sport. Hockey fans obviously know who he is and think he's awesome, but hockey fans are a very small minority of the American population. The NHL does well in the USA because America is an insanely wealthy country with a large population, not because hockey is super popular.

Think about it from this point of view for a second: David Beckham didn't become an international superstar because FIFA marketed the shit out of him, he became an international superstar because soccer is the most popular sport in the world and he was really good at it.

You're not gonna see an explosion of Venezuelan hockey mania in Doral if the Panthers win the Stanley Cup. You'll pick up a few here and there, and they might hit one game a year as a novelty, but it's just not happening. I speak from experience on this, as I think I have probably brought more South American visitors to hockey games than anybody on the planet.

If it is a good game, people who are inclined to seek it out will find it and enjoy it. But people who don't grow up with it culturally aren't going to latch on to it the way that people who grow up around it will. This is one reason why I think the Panthers have done great work with youth hockey... it gets parents interested, too.
But thats the thing, if a sport isn't as popular then yes, the league has to do more leg work to get the game exposed. ESPN + TNT was a step in the right direction.

However, I think a lot of the players that the NHL have are not very marketable personality wise. McDavid for example seems extremely boring just based on interviews. Compare him to the popular athletes in North America, it's night and day. So yes, the league needs to do the legwork. Australia is another good step.

I think Ovechkin is very marketable but the league didn't take advantage of it.

Funny enough on Beckham, as a non soccer fan I had no idea who he was until the girl I was dating kept saying how attractive he was.

And me not being biased here, the league and the Panthers needs to take advantage of Chucky. He has that "NBA Personality" and he can be very marketable

I would think the NHL can't get into Houston fast enough.
Isn't that the 4th biggest city in the US?

Also sucks for fans that apparently the Coyotes cheaped out on their campaigning efforts to get a yes vote. At the end they lost their team because owner has been cheap and greedy

Disagree here. Panthers win the Stanley Cup you absolutely will see an explosion of fans all over Miami, it happened in 1996. The key is keeping them fans , as anyone from here should know this town is a bandwagon sports town, but it happened before and it will happen again.

Completely agree the momentum was all there fans bought in and Hockey was the talk of the town but slowly over time it just died away with uninspired hockey year after year.
