I mean the haul they would get would be impressive and the rebuild might not take as long as you think.
In the right hands, agreed. It would go a long way if we can get Bedard in a package for Matty. Matty would be the perfect star for a team in a major US market like Chicago or Philadelphia.

It's not on Dubas. He has done his job this season.

It's on the coaching staff and the core players to turn this series around.
Can you imagine this argument in reverse?

Imagine the leafs come back and win the cup this year.

Imagine people here start posting "They didn't win because of Dubas. It was the players and coach. Dubas still shouldn't be extended."

It's madness.

Why not, he's put together a great team that is entertaining to watch.

If they lose to Florida, the for sale sign goes up and everybody is available for blue chip prospects and high draft picks. IMO we are not winning anything until JT comes off the books, so load up with blue chippers while riding out the next two years.
I think Dubas understand and he’ll make some changes. Forget his first three years. He made an awful calculation, it didn’t work, but he’s been trying fix it for two years. It takes time, and in my opinion, they met expectations already this year

They hope Woll is legit, and if he is, they don’t have to look for a goalie. With the assets the have they can make a few trades to and build the team properly.

If he does it will be because of his undying faith in the "core". He worked many decent trades around them but if they can't make it to Finals with this lineup, it just isn't happening.

His replacement will definitely break it up. ROR, Schenn and Acciari should be offered contacts. Some of the money saved will go towards their salaries.

God forbid people who are passionate about their team and care about how they do not show some emotion when things go good or bad.

Also for people who think Dubas should be fired I wonder how old many of them are because if you've seen how the Leafs were managed the past 20-30 years you probably wouldn't be so quick to call for his head
I would rather see a 4-0, 4-1 series loss than a game #6 or #7 series. A longer series will give ownership and media all the ammo they need to extend this nightmare another three to four years.

Top priority this summer imo.
there is almost no chance RoR resigns in Toronto for 2 reasons. Cap and he has roots in stlouis. He also isn’t the type to take a discount either, so thats three reasons.

Remember, Kerfoot comes off of the books, Nylander is probably gone barring a Finals appearance. There might even be rumblings from up top to ask Tavares to waive his no-trade, who knows?

Dubas has pulled off some surprising trades, this deadline was his best. The deeper they go, the better the chances. This just makes this round that much more important. Not just for ROR, but what about Matthews?

With the right discussion with a player and commitment, they can be convinced that the team will only add the right players to compete.

If they win the cup this year I will reverse my opinion and hail Dubas as a genius

Love ROR but how many turtles can you have on a team? We need to add speed to this team.
Oh i wish we were a fast team, especially our D. We've lost so many foot races that have led to breakaways or 2 on 1's that it's disgusting. It's getting to the point where I worry the second a puck is lobbed out of the O-zone.

I think so.

Keefe should be gone though.
I've spent an unhealthy amount of time in watching the precious series. Vs Columbus, Montreal, Tampa etc and each year the team makes all the same mistakes and look like the worse team in generally all the games. Same goals against, same giveaways... Just a bad coach.

It's frustrating as a leaf fan watching the same &$#& over and over and no changes happen. Enough that you want to bang your head on a wall.

So all the OT losses to MTL was that luck or the leafs just choking?

You can’t pick and choose and diminish wins. Leafs worked hard to come back in those games and win.

clearly a diminished tampa side with cap casualties in McDanaugh and Palat, and without Cernak is a good test for "loaded" leafs team where posters have been claiming this is the best leafs roster ever...

leafs losing 2 OTs while blowing a 3-1 series lead is the same thing that tampa did with a depleted roster eh....

sure....

I find it absolutely hilarious that folks here are willing to blame the players and coach but not the GM; the only one who has refused to move a core piece or fire the coach

just WOW

If they win the cup then dubas did what he was hired to do
Until now he has built maybe a solid foundation
There are about 10 good teams in that category
If they lose and MSLE wants the same core he's likely gone and quick
Some players will need contracts too
U can't have a new not knowing g if this core even wants to stay
I voted he is fired maybe by next weekend

as long as tavares and his boat anchor of a contract is on this team; this team ain't winning anything.

Add to that Marner goes into a shell when there is no time and space and especially when opposition plays heavy hockey. I'd take a Tkachuk over Marner everyday. Nobody of the core pieces shits their pants harder than marner when going gets tough.

I know people don’t like to think of GMs this way but I think Dubas has developed over the years too. He starting to understand what you need to win playoff hockey. This trade deadline is a great example of that.

Keefe needs to go though. He’s a regular season coach. He’ll do well on a team like Ottawa that’s dying to get into playoffs.
