Do you believe in Frederik Andersen? Would you re-sign?

If we could somehow sign Binnington for 5.5 million per year, I’d be ALL over that. I just don’t see it happening with Hyman also needing a new contract.

Not many goalies can manage that.

This season Campbell had a good game and that's his save percentage. In that game he looked a bit shaky and fought the puck but it was his first game. I think he's a good goalie but hasn't shown starter durability and he's injured already.
I would re-sign Fred but at the right term and cap hit

I feel like the performance of Jack in his 1 game is a bit more nuanced than this. I recall his play being a breath of fresh air and that he played quite solid. Also didn’t find the goals he did let in to be soft. I could be wrong, but I suspect the night that Jack was in we may have leaked more high danger chances.

In general with Andersen I’d like to see a body of work under Keefe’s systems. 2nd half of the season and playoffs are going to be when I make my decision if I want Andersen here for the next 5yrs. As it stands at this very moment, I would welcome a change of scenery in net.

If he wants 5, he needs to give a discount. He isnt a spring chicken anymore and he is more likely to be a backup at the end of it.
I dont mind holding him to the same contract for a 2 year deal but 5 would look closer to 3.8

No he is done here ... he has won nothing for us for years ... and likely he will sh*t da bed again in playoffs when it counts ... likely he will keep him for our run and he will go like we have done for years with UFA's

Campbell was good enough that night. It was his first game and being a bit scrambly makes sense.
I have no issue with the skill level he brings. I just won't put all my eggs in his basket until he shows he can handle 50 or more starts in a season and give a good showing through that.
That said it's easy to be hard on goalies. Every top notch goalie let's in a bunch of stinkers regularly. I'm of the opinion that most fans fixate on our goalie as the inky one that does this.
I remember when we played the blues and it was cujo VS Potvin. Triple OT. Cujo made almost 70 saves iirc and Potvin wasn't far behind, but we lost and people were up in arms and shortly there after cujo was our goalie and Potvin a memory and we still didn't do any better with cujo.
Point being hockey is by and far a team sport. It takes an entire team to win in hockey. Yes goalie is the most important position, but goaltending is affected by the team I front of the goalie and a goalie cannot score

The Cap is probably going to prevent them from signing Anderson to a new contract. I can see them using this year to see if Campbell can handle a tandem job with another goalie.

It is a flat cap so any capspace they save from not signing Anderson and replacing him with a 1B goalie will be used partly for Hyman. A longterm deal for Anderson means they handcuff themselves for Reilly and other players that need extensions in the future.

Tandems are the way to go these days. If you can get a decent one for under $5M I would let Freddy go in a heartbeat.

If your defense is good enough you can get by with average goalies. Would it be nice to have a Vasilevsky or Rask? Sure, but barring that I think your next best bet it to strengthen the rest of the team and worry about goaltending last.

Guys like Raanta, Grubauer, Halak, even guys like Dreidger/Reimer aren't terrible options if the defense is good enough. All are above average tandem goalies despite none of them blowing you away with their ability.

Freddy is Matthews best bud. If it means Matthews resigning I keep Freddy in the fold @ $4 million x 4

I believe in Anderson, %100. And I would re-sign him, if possible.

The playoff problems are overblown. Of course he has no series wins since he's been a Leaf. The team hasn't won a series. Duh! Same track record for Matthews, Nylander, and Marner.

Matty is the key to the franchise. It all depends on the nature of his relationship with Fred. If they comfortable moving on. Then there are lots of options to tandem with campbell

Raanta, drieger, ulmark, binnington as UFAs

the expansion draft might force some weird decisions on korpisalo, Talbot, kuemper Peterson etc

First answer is no, but it wouldn't take much to change that to a yes - a playoff round win where he shows he can be the better goalie.

2nd answer is maybe - depends on market, situation, how he's looking . . . a hundred things.

I know that Andersen spent with Matthews in Scottsdale last year when the season was on pause, however I thought Matthews was closer friends with Marner?

I watched a video interview yesterday where Matthews spoke about Freddy living in the same condo building, them sharing a chef, and often going out to dinner together. I think Marner has a steady GF now that might have changed that dynamic.

Ideally I need AM to meet a wonderful partner from the Toronto area that is very family orientated...step it up people!!!

If he’ll take 2 million less per year on a 2 yr contract, absolutely you sign him.

What kind of deal would a longterm one look like?

As a Leaf

Fred: 252gms, .915sv% (Plyff 25gms, .916sv%)
Reims: 207gms, .914sv% (Plyff 7gms, .923sv%)

Career

Fred: 377gms, .916sv% (Plyff 53gms, .916sv%)
Reims: 366gms, .914sv% (Plyff 11gms, .925sv%)
sv% really is a shit metric for goaltenders...especially career ones

Freddy's stats are actually quite good in the playoffs but he just has a knack for letting in weak goals at the absolute worst times.

I have a metric that adjusts a goaltenders SV% based on shot volume vs. league average and differentials in high danger/low danger chances faced vs. league average and over the last 5 years Andersen adjusts to .919 and Reimer to .918.

Now Andersen has had the heavier workload but Reimer has played better than most give him credit for.

If Campbell could pull off a full time tandem role it would be a pretty cheap combo.

I think Freddie is better as well but both have been historically above average goal tenders.
I prefer GSAA as a metric. The only problem is that I recently discovered there seems to be a disconnect from the sites that report it. I use hockey-reference but who knows if it is right.
