Do you believe in Frederik Andersen? Would you re-sign?

The Leafs only have 2 reliable choices, Freddy and Binnington. Both ill command 6.5 to 7.5 mill on a multi year deal. Those of you that think Freddy is signing for under 4 mill are out to lunch.
If the Leafs sign either one, then Kerfoot is gone imo. Just not enough room with this cap. I guess an alternative would be to try and sign a RFA, but the only 2 that are decent (Demko and Samsonov) would very likely be matched. Freddy just makes sense.

If Andersen and Binnington are available for the same price I sign Jordan and don't look back:

Frederik Andersen

Playoff series deciding games:

Year - SA - SV - SV%

2014 - 12 - 08 - .667
2015 - 27 - 25 - .926
2015 - 19 - 17 - .895
2015 - 26 - 21 - .808
2016 - 20 - 18 - .900
2017 - 36 - 34 - .944
2018 - 35 - 29 - .829
2019 - 30 - 27 - .900
2020 - 21 - 19 - .905

Total - 226 - 198 - .876

Jordan Binnington

Playoff series deciding games:

Year - SA - SV - SV%

2019 - 20 - 18 - .900
2019 - 30 - 29 - .967
2019 - 26 - 25 - .962
2019 - 33 - 32 - .970
2020 - 18 - 14 - .778

Total - 127 - 118 - .929

ooh I definitely agree, but I think it would cost more to get Binnington out, than to keep Freddy in. Likely by 1 or 2 million. This flat cap is going to hurt even more next year.

I think it all depends on what Fred would ask.

I’m thinking we

1.) lose kerfoot after Sb paid
2.) lose dermott 2 expansion

3.) sign Hyman long term under 4. (Mirtle has hinted strongly at a tanev like contract)
4.) sign a C for under 3 like a Lowry

That gives us like 6 for depth D and goalie.

If we want to run with

sandin/Lilly and cheap depth 7. We can pay 5 for a goalie. Freddie/binnington

If we want to see what Campbell has got. We can do a cheaper tandem like
Korpi/ulmark/rittich

I have to wait to see what he does in the pressure situations this year.
If he can get past losing when it really counts I would consider resigning.
Of course all this depends on what alternatives are available at that time

I said trading him was to risky and i will maintain that thinking on trying to sign him. 3 years@$5,500,000 to 6 and some nice signing bonuses on the back end might work.

Id be reluctant to give him 4 or 5 years worth of term given his age and somewhat uneven play in recent years.

At the moment I think my preference is to see who shakes out this ufa (especially with expansion on the near horizon) and then decide who to go after. And if that's Andersen back on a 1-2 year deal so be it.

50/50 at this point. Could go either way.

In general if we did re-sign him I'd go for a lower/longer caphit rather than a higher/shorter one.

I would hate to have to make the decision.

One would have to ask a harder question:

Who do you like more Andersen, Rielly, or Hyman?

Or is Nylander traded to sign the above players?

Think about what you are saying. I don’t want a obscure prospect and a couple stinking picks replacing a quality goalie. His long term numbers speak for themselves.
Around here he’s traded and loved from save to goal. That was five hole, trade the bum, that was top left, trade the bum, is he made of rubber there shouldn’t have been a rebound, trade him and on and on :)
I think he is a descent goalie so don't get me wrong on that. But he seems mentaly weak. Like he will never fullfil his potential. I don't have the feeling that he is a Stanley Cup winning goalie which should be the goal.

Andersons been the most consistent goalie we've had in years. Hes also faced the most shots of any goalie his entire tenure here. Wed be shortsighted not to sign him. "Star" goalies are getting like 8 to 10 million right now. If we could get him between 5 or 6 million we should do it, but because of cap restraints and some bloated contracts we might not be able to. I like Campbell but hes never played 60 games in a season not sure how hed fair. People are quick to dismiss positive players and coaches that have helped create our new team, im not sure why? (Lou,Babcock,Anderson are some of the main reasons were in the position were in).
Yes...sure...Andersen is "consistent". At being inconsistent and absolutely sucking in the playoffs.

No. Let him go.

My answer depends on how he plays in the playoffs this year, how much he wants to stay and what else is available. As it stands now I am far from convinced that he can win a series clinching game. I could care less how he plays in the regular season. If he fails again to win a series this year I say we try someone else.

it has nothing to do with freddy ... next year if we platoon campbell and other there total salary should be 5-6 mil and under considering we have other pieces to sign

By far the best goalie we had in decades so yeah and still relative cheap for his stats. Last year was an outliner but honestly, last season was a complete mess with corona in the middle of the season

Technically, we had both Joseph and Belfour in the last 2 decades so...no. He is the best since then though.

Huge save by our trash goalie to steal us a point

trade this bum
Are you talking about the shot into the middle of the net and he got an armpit on it. Anderson doing anderson. Let's in plenty of soft goals to start the season, dials it in after a month and is a mystery box in the playoffs. I'd take almost any starter in the league over him.
