I don't think he understands the depth of what "I skimmed the 31 pages" means. You saw some ugly stuff I imagine.

Half of them deserve Marners salary split into Pageau Palmieri and Parise. 10.75 mil for 1 goal. Not 1 goal a piece, combined. You need some hits let me call up stud prospect Leo Komarov from the farm for you.

People don't deserve this team. Straight up. I cringe Matthews has to score goals for fans like this.

Strange post. It's as if you think Dubas somehow is responsible for Matthews being a Leaf when the truth is, he was handed a team with not just Matthews, but a bunch of other young talent as well. It was an enviable position to be in and no matter who took over at that point, I think we would all have said that there is simply no way that we would not have won even one playoff series by now. Or are you giving him tons of credit for not trading Matthews by now, is that it?

Strange post.

It's a sarcasm filled post that needs 10000 lines to unpack.

You're a marvel fan. I'll spare you. Deadpool is cool.

That's how it works here right? We arm chair run the team based off our own biases.

You just graduated training :sarcasm:

I advise we cut from this now before you get reported  I'm a new member myself, my first week was nothing but warnings in my inbox.

Buddy I have a life outside this board I don't care if people hate me here. "Dubas wears non-prescription glasses what a loserrrr". You think I care about the opinion of people who judge a guy based off his fashion trends?

I come here for the latest articles and news so I don't have to waste time looking for it myself. There's some good guys here who post news and trades and rumors as soon as it drops. That's the only thing this place is useful for and the guys who post that stuff are the real heroes.

@ me whenever if you want to rack up PIMs on clowns attacking the core 4 with idiotic posts.

If you're manipulating the numbers to make the Leafs .656pts% seem like a playoffs bubble record, you're only misleading yourself.

And the Leafs have hardly played anywhere near "peak". Heck, they're 25th in offense this year (though the underlying offensive numbers are still elite).
They are pretty well dead last in goals above expected yet they still win. Will get flamed over this but IMO, they have had some bad luck this year. When it normalizes, this team will look unbeatable.

Had a blast skimming through these 31 pages.

My executive summary: This place is full of old men who hate young players, young managers and young posters.
Why do you have to be like that? I dont hate young players, managers and posters. I dislike incompetent ones. If you dont want people judging your posts based on your declared age group, I suggest you criticize posts based on their content, not their authors.

Unbeatable is a big word. Are you predicting we'll look unbeatable in the playoffs or is going to be just a few regular season games?

I don’t know why age has come into it.
I like these boards because there is no age, colour, religion, gender, whatever. It’s just Leaf fans. Well, mostly.

I think all Leaf fans want the team to win but have varying degrees of frustration when looking at the build.

You can like your team but not the direction. If you don’t believe in the build, it’s really difficult sometimes. All you can do is:

1. Hope you’re wrong and it works out,

2. Wait for it to change.

Good post. I think 1 or 2 will be decided this spring.
Hoping it's 1 but knowing it's probably going to be 2.

It's out of our hands as fans and all we can do know is wait and watch what happens.. Its a results oriented business and the results will determine the final outcome. Its always comforting knowing that its management and the current players whose jobs are on the line as is their Leaf tenure, however as Fans we are given full autonomy and tenure giving us a permanent post, as long as when want one with our team of choice.

We are however not alone in our beliefs/doubts about this current build and core 4 direction. Taken directly from the horses mouth so to speak...

Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas admits he considered breaking up his core in the off-season

By Kevin McGran Staff ReporterThu., Sept. 9, 2021

Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas said the time for sentiment is over and he had considered, however briefly, trading one of his core players over the summer but didn't see the right deal.

“None of those opportunities that came along in the summer were going to tangibly improve our team,” Dubas said on the latest episode of “The Bob McCown Podcast.”

“They could have would have made us different, but they wouldn't have necessarily made us better.”

The likes of Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews and William Nylander felt the brunt of the disappointment of Leaf fans after the team lost to the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the playoffs. They are all homegrown talent signed to expensive, long-term deals. “The time for sentiment has come and gone as the years have gone past, where we haven't broken through to what many deem is our potential,” Dubas said. “We looked at everything. I know that there is a feeling that the core group is protected, and we have a strong belief in them. But I think we would look at anything that would that would improve our team overall, regardless.”

the reason I don’t believe and I think many others might agree who are on the “don’t believe” bandwagon is because of lack of success.

Advanced stats have told us the leafs are good for the last while but when the going has gotten tough they have crumbled.

Their faith has somewhat been destroyed and I don’t think you can blame people for thinking like that. You can say it’s a bit of biased due to the last few years.

If they break up the core I think the trade will look like the Leafs lost at first. There will be negative feedback because I don’t think they will get what is perceived as fair value back. It will take years to find out if the Leafs did well on a trade that breaks up the core.

Yes, I believe in the team that Dubas has put together. The consistent problem with this team in the playoffs, is scoring when it counts most. This is primarily an issue of either young guys needing to learn playoff hockey, or maybe there are some who just will never produce when needed. They clearly have the talent to do so... So far, it's been on the players. When you repeatedly fail, that starts to fall on management. If we don't have success during these playoffs, some changes are a must... maybe that's player turnover, maybe some management... maybe Dubas will be allowed to make those changes, and if the team falters again the following year, there would be no question he'd be gone too. But maybe, just maybe we should hope that Dubas succeeds, and the team does.

I believe it will take a NEW GM to alter the core, because there will be no personal attachment to the past or the contracts or the desire to prove everyone else wrong which would cloud better judgement when it came to assessing trades and values.

A new GM has a clean slate and can take a step back if it meant hopefully taking numerous steps forward. The current GM knows his own job now hangs in the balance based on the teams performance this year particularly come playoff time. So he can't make a trade of a core player unless he feels it moves the team forward immediately, so he is not interested in potential or future in any potential trade only the present matters in his own job preservation.

Example: A team could offer the Leafs 4 X 1st picks for a core player and Dubas would decline because it weakens the team in the present and his own job is tied to present results.

We as fans don't need proof like the GM does clinging to hope, that this will all work out as he has planned, because year after year we have playoff failure and disappointment = concrete evidence that it isn't working. :wg:

You believed the roster this GM put together this year would be a bubble team, correct?

.

Despite Dubas being on record, suggesting he thought about trading a core piece this offseason?

Let's be honest, there is no one way or the right way to win playoff games. It's very random and has a lot of luck involved.

Isn't the right way generally to have the teams best players playing their best at a specific time?

In the last 50+ years, the Conn Smythe winner has either been a goalie or one of the team's best players with the possible exception of Justin Williams in 2014.

There is a right way though. That’s build. I don’t mean you will win the cup but if your team is structured to skill, forecheck, grind, play 1-0, play 7-6, play dirty then you have given yourself multiple chances to survive random teams of 4 rounds.

If you are built only one way and I can recognize how to shut that down, you probably don’t win many rounds.
