Love Kostin as a player.

Only thing I'm worried about is the fairytale coming to an end as it usually does. If he can keep up this level of play, then we have a valuable player here. Expecting regression but I am impressed with what he has done so far.

Great work Holland on this one.

He definitely won't. He's shooting 44% and has an onSH% that's more than double McDavid's over this nine game heater.

That doesn't mean he won't be a valuable third line guy going forward, but his recent offense is due to drop off hard.

I think I said earlier in this thread that he was at a similar age/pedigree/skillset to Nichushkin (without the defense I guess but that can come later) when he got dumped by Dallas/picked up by Colorado and could potentially be a low risk decent reward pickup. So far he's been tracking very well. Hopefully he continues to be an effective middle 6 forward for the next few years and maybe even has that big breakout in 2 or 3 years to become that 1st line forechecking/grinder/goal scoring force.

I think what you said was "Kostin kinda sucks"

Hes also noticeably more confident with the puck and making smarter plays, which are translating into better scoring chances, so while the sh% will fall, there are improvements he is making that cannot be measured to help make up for that

Kostin, Kane and Hyman are our 3 best wingers and they're all guys that Holland brought in.
Yep, give the man some credit people. We all know Holland's shortcomings but he deserves credit when he hits on some and the three you mentioned along with that Nuge contract which is absurdly good (Zacha has almost the same caphit for reference) and Janmark are hits. I still say Ceci is a hit as well despite a bit of an uneven season thus far.

Love the goals and points and all that, but I'm more of about the process kind of guy. The scoring will come and go, it's a tough league. But if he's playing "the right way", it will smooth things out between the times when the puck isn't going in. He looks like he gets pissed off to lose, plays hard and goes to the dirty areas, and competes like hell. I can't believe he's an Oiler because he sticks out like a sore thumb compared to most of the wallflowers on this team.

He also draws a boat load of penalties. He's been drawing about one per game on average lately.

The nice thing about the internet is that everything is preserved.

Also as of the end of the 2022 season Kostin did objectively suck. That's why he got traded in the first place. Doesn't mean a struggling player who has failed to put it together can't be a good reclamation project in a new environment though which is what happened here.

I don't get this trade. Kostin will never amount to anything, and Samorukov might still end up a bottom-pairing guy. What is the upside of this trade for us? Makes no sense.

I don't think Kostin is very good. Tyler Benson is more productive than Kostin at the AHL level so i don't see what Kostin brings to the table except that he's 6'4.

I wonder why other teams can make finds, but Oilers are stuck with 3rd pair defenders who can barley skate.
Marinoand E. Gustafsson is the odd man off that rule. But they leaved this organisation.
Maybe a smart move....

E.Bear though doesnt seem to strike higher than a 4D . That Bear-Fogele trade seems to be a wash today.

Why Im so pissy? Well, I thought Niemilainen and Samurukov would be more promising than the last generation Ds.

Well, well. Lets go back and be frustrated about Oilers Right wing instead.

Such a stupid thing to have invidualists and wingers as a hope. Yes. All of HOPE was wingers, werent they?
Wasnt Lowe and MacTavish suposed to get that...

Well, here we are, and take a look and hold fasten your seatbelt while Holland throws out three 1sts for Erik Karlsson.
Thank god for this trade

Is he good defensively? Or is he a busy body who just runs around and hits things and gets burned consistently for being in the wrong places.

To be fair i wrote this and this was the exact reason Kostin was sat out by Woodcroft at certain points during the season.
Our pro scouting for the most part has been pretty good the last few seasons so I'm going to accept that we know what were doing (wow, that's weird to say as an Oilers fan) and be cautiously optimistic.

I also wrote this but @Daryls Friend likes to rip me without proper context.

But that's alright. The Oilers hit a home run in a trade. Leafs got past the first round. I think we are living in some sort of bizarro world.
